7/10 for the fun/cool interactions between characters. There's not much else there and Tabuu is unfortunately a nothing villain, but I still enjoyed the mode enough for a decent score.

Even the cutscenes weren't that memorable. It wasn't until people starting praising them years later I realized they were...kinda cool. And I agree that having this mode take place in some weird original world, rather than throughout various famous locations from the represented series was a mistake.

Kinda cute and inoffensive but having so much untapped potential there really bugs me.

Like fighting games are such a great medium for enabling a mesh of simple dumb plots where all the characters coexist in their own limited ways and it's fun.

But Smash said "nah I'm gonna do my own style" and the style just wasn't very good. Just a bunch of mildly amusing fanservice scenes.

I really enjoyed seeing all those characters interact with each other and group up/split up/etc as an ensemble in an actual story. The story was really stupid but it had its charm.

More than 1 way to rate a story. The objectives and what they are trying to accomplish is a snoozefest "who cares". But just seeing them all interact and have fun together was pleasing. It was basically a MCU film, because of how equally dumb it was, but still harmless fun.

From what I remember the story is weaker than SSE as a whole. It's like crossover fanfiction where the author doesn't have a lot of ideas beyond "the characters meet and fight bad guys together." The novelty of certain characters being juxtaposed in a story and the production quality of the cutscenes go a long way toward making it entertaining but ehhh. At least we had Brawl in the Family for years of much funnier interactions between those same characters.

I'm being generous but it's quite enjoyable. I wish they elaborated more what's actually going on because it's not as bad as it might seem. In particular some flashback to how the world ended up where it started would be nice.

I don't even remember there being a story in a smash game, but I also barely ever played brawl for lack of hardware. So while I would rate this somewhere south of a 2, I don't know that this opinion counts for anything.

I don't know, I thought it was fine considering what it set out to do. Most characters are sufficiently true to their original personalities (Lucas for example goes through a truncated version of his original character arc) and there was a certain charm to the decision to make the entire story dialog-free.

It's not a good story, but it is fun and serviceable in a way you're that you're glad to see it.

(I actually just bumped it up from a 5 to a 6 just after finishing that sentence, since being glad it's there... well hey that's a good plus)

Some people are being far too harsh. This was a great way to tell a fighting game story and set the stage for the recent Mortal Kombat trilogy to do it even better.
