Do I actually have to own the shares though? I ask because I don't own 100 shares in anything. The most I own is 65 shares of SOFI. At least, from what I understand, options are sold in lots of 100.

If you own stocks that are currently way below where you bought them,you should sell calls on them at least at your entry price, if not lower (depending how far down you currently are). Its literally free money.

If you own 100+ shares, that is.

Gotta have money to be allowed to make money with the same tools as everyone else.

If you don't own the shares then you are effectively short the shares and risk infinite losses.

The annoying thing about it is that I can afford to buy 100 shares of some of these stocks I own, I just don't want to have more than $1,500 in any one stock (even though I'm sitting on 48k in cash that I could invest).

My gains since January have been erased and I'm down from my original investment. The market hasn't even opened yet.

My individual stocks took the losses aside from AMC and ACI, but I haven't lost money on any ETFs I own. I think it's a sign that I'm not good at stock picking.

That's why playing with 10-20% of your portfolio and keeping the rest in ETFs is really the best advice to practically for anyone. I'm down a couple grand (5%) over the past couple weeks but I'm still up substantially overall YTD

I've learned my lesson. I'm holding. But I do plan to gradually sell off my individual stocks over the next few months once the recovery happens and move those funds into ETFs.

Bought a cracker barrel leap for 180 days out. I think we are going to see coronavirus fears not affect business, especially businesses that are so tied to conservative states.

Wow, haven't seen the Dow down 800 points in a while. But SPCE is up today, the only green stock in my portfolio.

My $250 loss today is only $118 and I've now broken even.

Wish I didn't cancel my M1 order this morning (as now I'd have to wait until 3 PM Eastern to submit another) but I thought the pain would continue for longer. I think a lot of people are buying the dip.

Bought the dip on my pure ETF account. Good financial decision in these crazy times? I guess we will see. I'm hopeful that they will continue to prop up the stock market and prevent a crash from lasting too long.

But you could realize those losses anytime until the end of December and get the same effect. Or, if bitcoin recovers before then, you could get the gain from here up to your original basis tax free. Whereas now, if you realize gains later you'll have to pay tax on that.

So did I mess up? I guess youre saying that Id be paying more in future gains since Im buying lower now.

I think on the tax side it probably doesn't really change much (assuming you would remember to realize losses by December), but if you end up selling again at some point this year you're probably out the $600 in fees.

Should have just put all of my money into Cracker Barrel leaps. Up 30% since yesterday.

I considered dropping $10,000 into my ETFs yesterday and I kinda regret not doing so. Oh well. The $1,600 I bought has done pretty well.

On another note, I'm starting to prefer one brokerage that lets me just drop cash in and it invests it automatically into ETFs I chose at the percentages I set. It's fun to manually do trades, but I'm finding myself being more hesitant about buying and selling manually.

Wow it Might actually hit my strike price. Up 13%.

My cryptos are seeing a nice positive correction so far today as well. Very nearly at a position of profit for me thanks to dip buying, but still down overall compared to a week ago.
