Yeah, basically.

The way you're supposed to do it (at least nowadays) is not to aggro them at all and instead sneak behind them to turn off the searchlights, which will get rid of all but 2 before the guns unlock to take down the airship.

In my slight defense, I was not the first one to rush at them lol. But I definitely did rush them, fired from a distance, and then ended up aggroing like, 4 or 5 of them, to my swift demise lol.

But aside from that, it went fairly well. Again, that imperial boss theme or whatever it is, is quite great. Now to do the Praetorium

I've been watching some video lately of first time players and WoW refugees playing through the game, and every time they get to the end of 2.0 they're always comenting on how incredible the music and stuff is for all of it and, like, they're RIGHT, but I've heard it all millions of times now so it's just gone straight to background noise.

There's a speech a character in Prae has near the ends that's also just real cool, and I haven't paid attention to it for like 50 runs of it now so I just never think about it.

Are there some Ultima Weapon attacks that are unavoidable? I feel like I avoided the lasers and anything in a circle, but still took a hit or two (didn't see from what).

But anyway, seems like I'm finished ARR? Or 2.0 at least. Looking forward to see what comes next!

yeah, there are proximity attacks that hit the whole arena. (deals less damage the further you are from the impact zone). I think he also uses normal raidwide attacks as well

And uhhhhh is Ultima Weapon the first instance of the standard distance based unavoidable AoE? I think it might be, since Titan's is unique. When you see that pulsing wave coming out from a circle, that means you are going to be hit for damage regardless, but the further from the center you are (of the pulsing wave, not the stage) the less you will take. It will be a VERY common marker moving forward.

Speaking of very common unexplained markers, you will start seeing 4 flashing arrows pointing towards a single player a LOT during bosses, especially after Heavensward. This means stack on top of eachother. If you get that, don't run away!

Will it be super obvious when I start Heavensward? My guess is yes, but want to be sure. I know there's a bunch of stuff between the end of ARR and beginning of Heavensward. Got poetics for the first time on the last two missions, what should I get with them?

Also, the main scenario roulette........is that JUST those two last missions?

it will be very obvious when you hit heavensward.

best use of poetics will be item level 130 gear, which you can get from rowena's vendors that now appear near the main 3 city aetherytes. You'll get plenty of these, don't worry about saving them

and yes, the main scenario roulette is literally just those two dungeons.

MS Roullete gives TONS of experience. Will be super useful for leveling new jobs in the future, and you get to watch videos or do whatever during the cutscenes, lol.

And yeah you can buy the Ironworks Gear with Poetics which will carry you like halfway through Heavensward (or honestly all the way through Heavensward, even if you will technically get better stuff towards then end. I bought all mine in Mod Dona where the weapons and gear were sold by seperate vendors, not sure if that's the same for the vendors in the hub cities.

You will know you are entering Heavensward when the game straight up warns you that you are about to watch a lot of cutscenes and you should make sure you've got time. Grab some snacks and prepare to sit back for an hour, lol.

It looks like there will be no more Ivalice content in XIV according to Matsuno's twitter.

I'm of mixed feelings on this. The 24-man Stormblood alliance raid storyline was mediocre, and Bozja's narrative was outright terrible until Zadnor almost redeemed it, but still, I kept seeing glimmers of what could have been greatness. It's a shame we won't find it realized.

I have no background with FFT/FF12 but went into the Ivalice story with an open mind and it was complete trash. This game has a lot of long-winded lore dumps trying to cram the plot of other games in but Ivalice takes the case for length, dullness, and mental gymnastics to get everything to mesh properly.

As someone who loves FFT he story was borderline offensive.

Random leveling notes:

Not sure why Scholar has a melee instant for it's AoE, but I'm not complaining.

I know it's just because the it's kit gets a lot of it's DPS utility early, but it's still wierd to have the highest non tank enmity against bosses in basically all level 50 content as a Mechanist.

Each healer gets the same potency but an extra treat to their AoE.

AST gets to cast theirs at range, SCH gets to cast their instantly, WHM adds a hefty stun to theirs (at the cost of the animation taking forever to come out)

Good lord is there so many quests to pick up everywhere. I don't even know how many active ones I have going on. Still on the "moving on" MSQ. Doing the relic quest for the Artemis Bow. I'm sure there's better stuff around, or on the MB, but this seems like something that should be done anyway. The Chimera melted essentially, and the only hit I took was right at the end I think, though I have no idea what hit me. Gotta take the salts back to Gerolt (of Rivia) and go from there.

Also unlocked the Tam Tara Deepcroft hard mode. Do all dungeons have a hard mode that will have a quest lead to it? That seems like...........a lot. Apparently have to fight Odin too, as well as hard mode versions of Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda. Though Trial Roulette is now unlocked, which is nice since those are fairly quick, at least moreso than dungeons.

Also, I now know who this is lol. Hildibrand is definitely...........interesting. Did his stuff up to the apparent introduction of Gilgamesh!!! Then it gave me some movie-like thing, saying he'll be back in the "Three Collectors" or something. That was certainly a thing that happened.

Most of dungeons have hard modes, especially in ARR, though not all of them. Thankfully it's always very different.

You're going to want to do the hard mode for the Trials you've already fought, but give up on getting Odin in duty finder. He's one of the pieces of ARR content that isn't in roulettes at all, so it won't happen unless you actually form a party to fight him.

You can, uh, do the Relic Quest if you want, but most people do not bother with the ARR Relic Quest. It's very long and awful. I'd say look up the weapon and decide if it's worth it for the looks. It's not a factor of the stats at all.

"Hard" in a dungeon name is a bit of a misnomer - they aren't actually difficult, more of a narrative excuse to revisit an old location for a different story reason. Some of them are quite interesting - the Tam-Tara Hard storyline in particular is a treat.

Similarly, "hard" trials aren't actually hard. During ARR it was developer shorthand for "this trial is at level 50". By the time you get to post-Heavensward content the conventions have changed to "instance name", which is the story mode, and "instance name (Extreme)", which is the challenge mode. Some trials are named "The Minstrel's Ballad: ____", which is the equivalent of Extreme.

Speaking of! 8 man raids past ARR have two versions, normal and Savage. Normal is story mode; Savage is the challenge mode. ARR only had one difficulty for the Coils of Bahamut, which was equivalent to today's Savage. (Second Coil Savage is something else altogether - if you're doing it synced at the level it was intended it's considerably more difficult than anything else labelled Savage.)

At certain points in the MSQ you will have to have completed the entire Crystal Tower series (all three raids, plus a few quests after the last one) and the Hard versions of Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda. All the other blue quests are optional - if it looks interesting to you, do it!

Aside from that, MSQ MSQ MSQ.

Yeah Hildy is a blue with a plus sign. I'm part of an FC, so may try and get some people for an Odin run, just so I can beat it once. Currently waiting in DF for a Battle on the Big Bridge party.

My first clear of dalriada was like 5 people, and when I learned you could turn off the floors electricity on subsequent runs I was like "oh this makes this section make way more sense"

I just used cure 1 my party on my 1.5 gcd as a monk the first time
