I've gotten Castrum 3 straight times in MS roulette. Quick question. I'm trying to fire the cannons to hit Livia, and they are loaded, but I can't do it. First time, no pet hotbar came up at all. Changed my display configuration, and the second time, the hotbar came up in the middle of the screen with one icon, but I couldn't do anything to select it. I'm on PS4, for reference. Any tips?

Are you loading the cannons from the missile pile first? The claw hand brings them over, it'll glow red when it's ready to fire.

Yep. It's loaded and good to go. I click on it, and my character is locked in place and my hotbar comes up with whatever the icon is to fire (I think). But I can't select it, or do anything. Tried using the touchpad to go over to it, no dice.

Ugh King Moggle Mog is supremely annoying. Each time I've done this fight (3 times now, twice in roulette), I've died.

King Mog can go very bad if there are not enough people who know what to do, and very easy if there are. There's really not an in between, lol.

Just remember to focus down the White Mage and then Black Mage Moogles first. I forget the names but they are color coded. Pretty much easy street after that. Worst thing that can happen is everyone splits up their targets.

And the most important thing is to dance during the mid fight-transition. If you don't then you have to uninstall the game.

That's where the Manderville dance comes in handy.

Man, hearing the FF6 boss theme in the Ultros/Typhon fight was unreal. Love that theme a lot. Again though, that pet hotbar or whatever came up, and I don't think I was able to use whatever ability was on there when I was an imp. Unsure why.

So I've wondered why I got King Moggle Mog multiple times in a row on the trial roulette, since my initial thought was that there was many. Then I realize the trial roulette was level 50 or higher, and I hadn't done Bowl of Embers hard yet. Whoops lol.

Also, I've gotten Castrum like, 4 times in a row. Is that just RNG being RNG?

Sadly yes. Getting Castrum sucks, exp isn't even close to as much.

Yeah it's mostly RNG (unless more people are manually queuing for one or the other, but most people in any MSQ run will be there for their roulette and the manual queues should presumably be roughly balanced as running it without needing to for the MSQ or with a moogle tome event up is an insane waste of time).

Castrum AGAIN. The comments of other people complaining makes me feel a bit better lol. Oh well, almost got the whole augmented ironworks set from the poetics from these things. Gonna do the trial roulette (and I bet I get King Mog again) then keep going with the MSQ. Goal is to push through to Heavensward (or close to it) this weekend.

Edit: Also, solved the cannon shooting issue I had. Basically just disabled the pet hotbar, and gave a spot to "duty action" or whatever in one of my hotbars. Worked beautifully

I'm curious as to why you are running these roulettes in the first place, just for the poetics?

Hopefully not for leveling you main progression class, you will get more than enough experience to hit cap from the MSQ alone.

........yeah, was definitely for the exp mostly, as the MSQ was giving up barely any. But now realizing that, I assume it'll skyrocket again once I get to Heavensward. Man I feel dumb.

Wish I read that before doing the trial roulette, though this time I got Ultros/Typhon.

I mean trial roulettes don't give a ton of EXP and it's fun I just do bosses once you have a bunch, lol.

MSQ is definitely not for anything but EXP, though.

And yes, doing nothing the entire game that gave any meaningful EXP rewards other than running leveling queue twice before I knew better, I ended up starting Stormblood at level 64, when it starts at 60 normally. Had to level a second class starting halfway through Stormblood just to make sure I didn't end up wasting all the massive exp the gives you once I started getting closer to 80.

The reason the exp from the MSQ basically fell off entirely is because the patch content was originally meant to be played by characters that were already at level cap for the expansion, so you couldn't actually gain levels or EXP anyways. Once you get to 3.0 it will go back to huge EXP dumps.

That definitely makes sense, will keep that in mind for the future. I assume I just get the poetics through other things that pop up as I progress? Not that I need many more to finish out the augmented ironworks gear.

You'll get Poetics from basically all content moving forward. Keep an eye on it to make sure you don't cap! Spend it even if it's not something you need right now, prep for another class and such. Your retainer can hold a lot of gear for you for the future.

I just finished by buying every single piece of Poetics gear in the game at the 50, 60, and 70 tiers last week. It's essential stuff when your going back to level old classes after finishing the MSQ, since Poetics gear can take you through an entire 10 level run of content (50 to 59, 60 to 69, and then the 70 gear until cap) without any big issues so you don't have to constantly change your equipment.

Since your actually DOING MSQ with your first job, you'll start seeing better gear than the Ironworks stuff probably...halfway through Heavensward?

EDIT: If you decide to preorder Endwalker, don't bother buying any earrings, though after that. The preorder earring give you an EXP buff, can be equipped no matter what level you are, and the stats make all earrings below level 80 obsolete (except gathering and crafting earings)

Lol change to a level 1 class right before finishing an MSQ that gives giant EXP.

Just did Leviathan for the first time. We wiped 3 times, first because the elemental thing was used too early, second and third because no one used it in time for Tidal Wave.

Wiped 3 times to Ramuh last night also. I think most people were new in that group. First try, only me and one other person went after the adds, so judgement bolt murdered everyone. Second and third, it was those lightning chains that linked two people, and drained their HP. No one (including me) realized you have to walk into those lightning mote things to break it. Winning run, he didnt even put that lightning tether on me.

Ramuh Extreme synced was one of my "holy shit this is awesome" moments early on for me.

By the way, dont ever queue for extreme from duty finder. Use party finder instead.

Ramuh gets a lot of people, I don't think it's reasonable at all for people to figure out the mechanics on their own on the first go. Makes it more fun on the replay, though!

I think all the ARR trials have their merits on replay other than the boring Garuda (maybe a controversial take?) and the braindead Ifrit. And Yeah I'm including their Extreme versions, just don't like those fights.

Uhhhh....and Steps of Faith, but that's a whole different deal. Also it's super cool the first time!

Post ARR it is pretty much smooth sailing on trials, they know what they're doing.

On Primal the most of the hunt toxicity is from one single dude who everyone hates (Johnny Football) who instapulls every S rank he goes to

Just did Tam-Tara hard for the first time. That was............definitely an interesting experience lol. The girl backing off the platform to her death was bizarre, even moreso when the victory fanfare plays afterwards (though my character's expression was hilarious).

Also, even though I definitely died once, this was the first time I got all 3 player commendations!

I've been watching this Asmon dude stream since all this bullshit I'm seeing on Twitter looks like it's going to be an eye opening moment for the FFXIV community in terms of gatekeeping. He's thankfully not dealing with nearly as nuc bullshit today it seems.

He's doing Copperbell right now and boy is this dungeon absolutely confusing as hell for a first playthrough.

Tossed myself in the DF for Odin just on the off chance other people were looking, while I was doing other things. About 20 minutes in, it procced! Wiped once to Shin Zantetsuken because we couldn't kill him in time, but killed him the second time!

Been doing a lot of crafting now that I'm an omnicrafter. Two things.

1) Why does casting gear always sell for more? Or is this just a Midgarsommr thing?

2) BOY am I glad I bough so much Mariner Cloth during the tomestone event. I guess the smart move is to buy tons of those rare crafting items during those and hold onto them. Girl's swimsuits selling for $300k+ a pop and all the materials other than the cloth cost jack shit.

Also, looks like 2.3 is done! Assuming so because I got the 20 point achievement and a new chapter in new game+ lol. So 2.4 now. I assume I'm getting kind of close to Heavensward?

In terms hour count I think that's about halfway through the patches? If you've been doing the optional stuff as you go then probably less, but in terms of actual MSQ hours then yeah half.

The last hour of that is a single cutscene. The game will warn you.

In my experience casting, fending, and healing all sells pretty well. Aiming and striking are okay, and maiming and especially scouting suck. I think it's mostly just a function of how many classes can use the gear/how many people use those classes.

Glamour question (Heavensward spoilers)

Is there any glamour that can make it look like you have one arm like Rauhban? Like just because it covers one side of your body, like a side cloak? Not necessarily the same one since I don't want a big pauldron, and obviously it won't work with most weapons raised.

I hope people realize from this that XIV's community is often just as bad as any other MMO's community, it's just usually hidden behind passive-aggression.

I will say from what I've caught of it, it's neat to hear the perspective of a guy who really just wants to swing a big axe and look badass.

When he did Satasha there were like 5 things he commented on in the dungeon regarding basic gameplay concepts that I didn't know for a dozen hours after that, if not after finishing 2.0

And I mean, yeah, I guess it makes sense since he's suppose a huge WoW guy that the basic MMO knowledge would translate over, but still.

Best part so far has been how he actually remembers everything from the story as he goes but can't pronounce ANYTHING right, and I legit can't tell if he's doing it on purpose. Lost it a little bit at "Nobody like Uberdanger"
