It really should have been the same deal as the IFF: endgame event, heavily urges to go to the final mission as soon as it happens.

As it is its not really possible to take ME3 seriously at all story wise.

Sure feels better to play though. More than I remember.

Makes me wish the proper Reaper invasion started mid game instead of the opening scene.

Like, I don't HATE it but I don't think it's great.

The beginning of ME3 isn't very good at it plays catch-up for a while. I think they were trying to recreate ME2's amazing hectic start but just weren't able to.

The only reason I remember Kai Leng is someone said I was crazy for not doing using my R2 on him.

Also the cereal thing was retconned, I think. Pretty sure they scrubbed that book from existence for "damaging the Mass Effect brand".

If only they knew what the future held.

IIRC, that retcon was the work of our own user SaveEstelle rallying the troops to tell Bioware that was just ridiculous.

Spooky ghost forest dreams feel Like Deadly Premonition.

I can't say it's not interesting playing this having blocked out pretty much the whole middle of yhr game, after playing through ME2 remembering literally every little detail of the game top to bottom.

So I'm torn on whether to save Kaiden or Ashley on Virmire.

On my only full playthrough (ME1 through ME3) I killed Ashley. I feel like I should change it up this time and save her, but I also have my FemShep romancing Kaiden. Part of me wants to have a tragic FemShep Romances through out the entire trilogy (i.e. romance Kaiden but he dies, romance Thane but he dies either via bad planning or how he naturally does in ME3), and then maybe not having enough War Assets to allow whatever teammate she's romancing in 3 to live either.

It is just INSANE that Javik was DLC back then. Kasumi and Zaeed contribute nothing at all to ME as a franchise and are just nice window dressing. Javik is CRITICAL.

The era around the release of ME2 and 3's release were dark times for intentionally seperated content.

I always found it disappointing how you can't speak to Kasumi and Zaeed the way you do with "important" NPCs, including any other parry members. They just repeat their list of one-liners and can't actually have a conversation with Shepard, as if they weren't important enough to be given any cinematic camera angles or something.

It especially sucks with Kasumi because her design is so cool.

now that I've played a decent way into it it's actually pretty jarring going straight from 1 to 2

like 90% of the RPG elements are just gone

even if ME1's inventory management wasn't very good I still miss it over having no inventory

The only thing about ME2's streamlining that annoys me is the total lack of weapon stats. I know every acquired weapon is better than the starters, but there's no good way to actually compare them to each other.

What does "get away with" mean in this case? ME3 was viciously attacked from like, day 1. Albeit mostly due to the ending but that was a big part of it too. It's not like it's some shitty thing they did that everyone just didn't notice or care about

It was definitely a big deal, but EA/Bioware had the fanbase by the balls and knew it. None of the hardcore fans would actually boycott ME3, and most would spring extra for a Prothean teammate given how instrumental that race's lore was in shaping the first two games. What a douchey move.

I mean, it eventually got overshadowed by the ending, but it was constantly talked about leading up to launch and the early days of the game.

Since ME3 had just came out, I chose day one DLC.

It got a standing ovation, but I think it was more due to quality than content.

I wouldn't have minded From the Ashes being DLC if they had more squadmates to choose from in the base game, instead of just Garrus, Tali, Liara and the Virmire Survivor. Sure, there was also the jersey shore reject and EDI, but can't I have more of my ME2 team that wasn't in the first game? The suicide mission feels so pointless when only Garrus and Tali stick with you. The rest are loyal, and... just count as war assets if you're lucky.

Yeah one of the things I hate about 3 is the squadmates just being 1's again, 2 really gets shafted. Mordin, Legion and arguably Thane are the only ones who get major plot roles, and they all die >_> There's no reason that Miranda for example wouldn't be better off hiding from Cerberus on the Normandy.

Honestly they shouldn't of shook up the crew at all after 2. It really should have just continued on from the end. I don't mean all of them being there at the start, you can still do a time jump where characters had to leave to take care of stuff, but with hem all returning.

Obviously not with how the game decided to structure itself in the end, but I'm already on record saying the entire setup/start of this game is a HORRIBLE misstep to begin with.

They screwed themselves out of this option by ME2 ending in the Suicide Mission where pretty much everyone can die. Too many variables that would be murder on development time for everyone to be there at the start.

We really needed more non-human squadmates. Is there like a one per race (except humans) limit or something?

I also imagine more people would kill Wrex on Virmire if it meant Mordin was a squadmember in ME3 after you sabotage the genophage without alerting the Krogan.

But Vega...is wierd, I actually kind of like Vega. I totally get why that type of character would turn a ton of people off, though. I guess my option on him is that I wish the game was structured in a way where he didn't have to exist, but with the game that we ended up getting he's a welcome presence?

Also has the prestigious honor of being the only male human human who makes it VERY obvious that he's gonna wanna get with Femshep and that you're going down the conversation tree to the bone zone. No accidental romancing there.

Ugh, true. I remember this whole discussion from back in the day now, of whether or not the Suicide Mission being as wild an ending as it was was worth completely kneecapping ME3's potential. At the time I said yes, now maybe not so sure.

Alright, I do gotta give major credit to Bioware for releasing ME3 TWO YEARS after ME2. Seriously, a two-year development cycle for a game like that - and this wasn't in the mid-90s when a developer could make annual Mega Man or DKC games - this was well into the age of AAA blockbuster releases which require a huge investment of time and resources.

So I totally understand why they couldn't bring more ME2 characters into your ME3 squad. It would have been just too hard given their time restraints, so they picked the two most popular teammates (who had been with you the longest) and gave the rest cameo roles. I get that.

But DLC Javik is complete corporate greed which they knew they'd get away with - James should have been the DLC character (but no one woulda bought him LOL).
