I remained amazed how somehow Twitter is coming out of all this as somehow the least shitty of the major social media companies - Youtube and Facebook are reported to be likely to lift Trump's ban on their sites .

Also, we had people posting about how the Trump campaign was scamming donors largely through its increasingly aggressive use of pre-checked recurring donations and it looks the the NRCC (The national GOP's House organization) saw it and was all "Let's double down on that shit." They added the same style boxes with the same tactics but now with things like "If you UNCHECK this box, we will have to tell Trump you're a DEFECTOR & sided with the Dems." and "Uncheck this box if you do NOT stand with Trump."

kids aren't getting SRS unless it's some extreme circumstance likely to do with being intersex - and that's why blockers are a thing instead to delay any serious decisions

FFS even adults aren't just popping in to the surgery phase on a whim (both from the trans individual deciding they want one, and the legal process allowing you to), nor do many even want to go there which trans care typically reassures you as an individual that it's an optional decision. Cis understanding of trans treatment is *woefully* inept which is why all these bills are completely asinine, written by fearmongering cis male culture warriors who don't give a fuck about any scientific, professional, or personal insights on the actual issues.

Even just me as an adult getting HRT took me over a year of process through 3 doctors

There's only like a handful of people in the entire country who are even qualified to do bottom surgery, it's like the very last step for anyone who does it and most people can only dream of having access to it. It's so silly that people think it's some kind of rampant thing

Things like top surgery for guys or facial surgery are more common but I'm pretty sure they really only do that on adults (probably some rare cases to the contrary)

And of course there's intersex kids who end up the other way, being forced into surgery to make them more typical, so lol

I just wish people would take a little bit of time to learn what kind of stuff trans people actually do

yeaaap at the gender clinic I was told I can come back years down the line if I consider bottom surgery since that requires more time living as your identified gender, in addition to further psychological assessment

hell even top surgery you're advised not to consider it until you see how much HRT does for you first, which would be at around 3 years. (this of course applies to other surgeries as well as different rates of change occur for different aspects of the body)

Also keep in mind that for transgender men and women, especially teens, it's generally more important to them in terms of stuff like passability and/or gender norms (even though in an ideal world they shouldn't be). Imagine having to go through high school as a transgender woman, growing facial hair and not developing breasts, while wanting to wear dresses and make up.

yep, workers in Alabama are just anti-union, that's why Amazon's response to a call for unionization was to buy four months of anti-union ads, hire twice as many workers, and illegally install a ballot booth where they'd have control over it.

they also had mandatory anti-union meetings and threatened to close and go somewhere else if they unionized. they got the city to change the traffic light near the place so organizers didn't have as much time to interact with employees before they got into work. the workers had to get 2000 workers to say they wanted a vote to even get to this point, and ultimately only 738 ultimately voting in favor definitely strikes me as voter intimidation accomplishing its goal.

conservatism in the US among those that aren't cynically conservative because they are rich is primarily about fear and a total lack of the ability to care about anyone different than you, and so no matter what lies they tell you about muh freedom or what have you, the truth is that they worship authority that makes them feel safe, and only are against authority that scares them. if you find the right guy, they love authoritarians, because taking action against those that scare them makes them feel safer. they support basically any authoritarian policy that they don't think is meant to go after people like them, that is their idea of freedom, a government that does not affect them but does ensure anyone besides them is marginalized.
