NH GOP apparently looking to split its electoral votes like Maine and Nebraska where the 2 at-large EVs go to the statewide winner and each CD EV goes to the winner in the EV. Combined with gerrymandering...

GOP controls House, Senate, and Governor in NH so I think they can accomplish this.

It would never reach the floor. Pelosi and House Dems used an expedited path for Impeachment Round 2 that uh... isn't going to be possible for her lol. Normally Articles originate in the House Judiciary Committee... which she is not a member of, and it would fail in that committee anyway.

NH is like the least gerrymandered state ever. The state Senate flipped from a 75% GOP supermajority to Democratic control from 2010 to 2012, demonstrating the very high elasticity of the districts. On a national level, both congressional districts are about the same in partisan lean.

The UK has had what Biden just signed for over a decade, and in some form for much longer than that. TERFism is only a bigger issue in the UK than the US in that there are more big-name liberal and feminist figures, like JK Rowling, who are transphobic, but it's not really reflected in the law or in the culture outside of that bubble. If polling is to be believed, the UK public is either similarly or more accepting of transgender issues, for instance the bathroom thing is a non-factor there. I have seen the idea that the UK is more transphobic than the US floated before and I don't really think there's a solid basis.

Came across this article on TERFism in the UK while on Twitter:

https://xtramagazine.com/power/transphobia-britain-terf-uk-media-193828

It explains the main difference between anti-trans attitudes in the UK and the US. In the UK, anti-trans attitudes are found across the full range of the political spectrum. In the US however, anti-trans attitudes are mostly limited to right-wing political beliefs, and especially among those who are very religious.

Could be, but the core thing is forcing all ships that all merchant ships traveling between US ports be US built/owned/crewed. If there's anything worth salvaging you could keep that in the same legislation getting rid of it.

Going by strictly the political ideologies without all the BS attached, I'm more of a centrist. However, the Republican party's overall bigotry and ignorance of science, which has grown especially worse in the last decade, combined with their awful Presidential candidates (with the exception of McCain), has made my vote really easy every time. When McCain chose Palin as VP, it made that vote easy as well.

I never strongly identified as Democrat until these last few years, but I've been noticing myself thinking of the Democratic party as a "we" in recent years, which is not something I had done before.

The ideology itself isn't the problem. It's that the party itself has completely lost track of that ideology and has instead loaned itself to hatred and willful ignorance, with all signs saying they will only continue down that track. If it could ever actually evolve past that, back to it's basics, I could see a time where I vote for a Republican. I simply don't expect that's ever going to happen. It feels like they've gone past redemption.

This, except Im probably more conservative than you. Im fairly ideologically libertarian in a lot of ways. I think the best way to cut medical costs is making it so doctors shouldnt have to be licensed (As long as they make that completely apparent)

Lol what

Theres a reason I picked that stance! Easily my most controversial! I believe 98% of Americans disagree with me last time it was polled.

The basis is that medical school is discriminatory, expensive and relatively obsolete. Unlike many other jobs the quality of a doctor is almost never measured and when it does it is never revealed to patients. Many of the worst doctors attended medical school decades ago and medicine changes so fast that decades old medical school is worthless.

So not requiring licensed doctors would force doctors to actually show their quality while also allowing previously underserved minorities who want to practice medicine the chance because they dont have to take out $200,000 in medical school debt.

I feel the same way about Law School, but thats less controversial I think.

I represent one of the greatest current fears of the Republican party. The actual moderate ones know they're rapidly losing the people who don't strongly identify with either party.

I didn't like Bush Jr., but frankly we were fine as a country for 4 years. I've paid more attention to politics in the last year than I have in my entire life. This is a case where extra exposure has been bad.

I can't tell you how much they'd have to clean themselves up to even get me back on the fence. The same holds for many like me. My current political leaning can be simply put as "The Democrats aren't "good", but the Republicans are "evil".

Biden isn't the "hero" we want, he's the hero we need. If the Democrats waste these two years though, and they're probably going to, at least we get some peace in our lives for a little while. Not being terrified of my own President is a good feeling.

That fear was there from the start and got even worse at the end. 2016 stunned me into being noncommucative for days (Blade actually picked the TNF game for me that week, Ravens over Browns, because I wasn't functional enough to do it myself)

I don't trust that party as a whole to even be able to recognize me as a woman. I've spent the last 4 years with a looming sense of danger as a trans. That fear is going to be the toughest thing to forgive.

Well no, majority of medicine today hasn't changed all that much in decades. Antibodies, inflammation concerns, painkillers, steroids, the usual vaccines, etc all are consistent and would be most issues. But for specific stuff like cancer, AIDS, autoimmune, yeah that's different. Specific stuff is part of why malpractice lawsuits are so common too. If your issue is that people unqualified for the job are licensed, totally true, but I'd sooner tier it and demand better continued education.

Unless you also dramatically increase acceptance rates this would only further hurt the ability of lower class individuals who couldn't afford 10 years of trombone lessons to put on their resume from getting into medical school.

And medical schools aren't going to increase acceptance rates. Then they would have more doctors which would GASP result in doctors making less money

Medicine in general as a field is fairly fraudulent because when they do their job right, they lose their patients, and sometimes it pays more to take a more roundabout route to keep some of them around.

Yep. Liberals talk about insurance being the problem with healthcare, and they aren't wrong it's a problem. But the issues with the healthcare sector are FAR more reaching than just insurance. A public option is an ok start, but unless you fix the root issues healthcare in America will always be an expensive mess

mm.... based on what you're saying, i guess a similar issue you'd have would be the payment structure. that you might see more noise over - Yang had that as one of his noted issues but it didn't get a lot of fanfare and has some issues. iirc his system was that doctors should be paid more by hour as opposed to by service, though i don't think he was married to the idea since he used a place that had a flat pay as an example too. but any people who want a more M4A system will end up having to tackle the payment system of doctors first so i expect this to be discussed more seriously in the upcoming years.

like your concerns on the medical system may be resolved through a change in how they get paid since that would change everything else. that path would also have a lot more people willing to listen to you over getting rid of general medical licenses, though it is also a lot harder since it's going to require more specific knowledge.

Oh for sure. I threw out that I didn't believe in medical licensing not as trying to convert people to what I believe but rather to emphasize the point that I have some radical libertarian views (Though I consider myself more pragmatically libertarian and think that before the government can be completely hands off we have to fix systematic racism and sexism for instance)

In a real debate setting I would probably argue for something closer to Yangs plan yeah because that could actually get buy-in
