It looks like vaccine distribution logistics is essentially having to start from scratch. The Trump administration was not even tracking where the vaccines were being sent to, much less in what quantities.

The fear that they would basically stop paying attention or putting in real effort once they lost seems to have come to fruition.

I get the idea behind it, but boy do I not want to abolish the Senate with the House in the state that it is.

Well you also would want to expand the house and repair voting rights. But pretty sure both of those are doable without amendments. The first is repealing the apportionment act and the second is why things like HR1 are so important.

The UK has had what Biden just signed for over a decade, and in some form for much longer than that. TERFism is only a bigger issue in the UK than the US in that there are more big-name liberal and feminist figures, like JK Rowling, who are transphobic, but it's not really reflected in the law or in the culture outside of that bubble. If polling is to be believed, the UK public is either similarly or more accepting of transgender issues, for instance the bathroom thing is a non-factor there. I have seen the idea that the UK is more transphobic than the US floated before and I don't really think there's a solid basis.

It does show how this handful of people who have a huge platform can change the public view though. Indeed, unfortunately attitudes in the UK have slightly worsened in the last year according to polls (though still supportive), and it's easy to see the likes of Rowling as being to blame. It's almost as if giving famous individuals a disproportionate say is a bad thing!

The flip side of "But what would House Republicans have done to the ACA if there was no Senate" is that if there were no Senate then Pelosi passed the public option back during 2009 and it was the Senate that warped the ACA into what it ultimately became.

Abolishing the Senate is basically the right call small-d democratically and for empowering the legislative branch - concerns about "But imagine what the GOP could do with total control!" is an argument against giving the GOP total control! And honestly, if they can win democratically (and I stress democratically here, the Electoral College and the incessant voter suppression is anything but) then they've earned the right to try and enact their agenda - it would be what the people voted for as much as I would despair about the consequences.

Instead we have this bastardized system where they can govern - and gain total control of all three branches - with minority rule and that is very much a problem, especially since they've embraced that and continue to double-down on it.

Oh, well that one's easy. Repeal the Reapportionment Act of 1929 and pass a new bill instituting the Wyoming Rule. The Republican Party as presently constituted will never win the House again - they'd have to moderate their positions so as to not exclusively serve the interests of the obscenely wealthy, white nationalists, and obscenely wealthy white nationalists.

So I think if there's any delay it'll come Senate side. As is, McConnell is already threatening to filibuster the organizing resolution that would allow the Dems to take the committee chair positions (Republicans still chair the Senate Committees because when this Congress started it was 51-48 because the GA elections hadn't happened and Loeffler served until Warnock was sworn in.) Will die laughing if this causes Schumer to kill the filibuster because it is an absolutely absurd and unprecedented move on McConnell's part. Will especially die laughing if this is like the one thing that even gets Manchin on board because it's literally keeping him from chairing Natural Resources.

That March timeline never really passed my suspicion test tbqh. (And IIRC came from a guy who was "just asking questions" about the Hunter Laptop story the day it was published when everyone else in serious news was like "i don't know about that chief")

My opinion on the Senate is that while yes, it's bad and distorts equal representation, House Rs are enough crazier than Senate Rs that we'd be worse off with a unicameral legislature

(This is also why I'm not crazy about the Wyoming rule; it seems like the more Reps you have, the higher proportion of them will be absolutely batshit crazy)

The entire premise of the full article is that QAnon adherents are overwhelmingly working-class railing against the professional middle-class, and we straight up know that's a falsehood from the legions of PMC business owners, white-collar workers, and straight up rich people (pedophile elites btw) who flew out to riot at the Capitol.

It's in the Dems' interest to give ample time if they want a conviction. We know the Dem senators are going to vote guilty, so the real trial is before the 50 Republicans, of which 17 need to vote to convict. If the trial is rushed it's easy for Republican senators to say there wasn't enough due process, or the evidence wasn't convincing.
