It's good that Republicans are doing soul searching over Trump, but I have yet to see m(any) doing any soul searching that goes back beyond 2015. Those that do not learn history are doomed to repeat it, and if these Republicans can't figure out how they got stuck with Trump in the first place, they will be right back in the same place they are now very shortly.

Trump has issued way fewer pardons than most presidents. The difference is that almost all of them have been either personally connected to him (other presidents have done some of these, but to nowhere near the same extent) or some pet conservative cause (e.g. the war criminals, etc).

Even in the very rare instance where he gave one to someone who may have deserved one (Alice Johnson) it appeared to be transactional, and he proceeded to use her as a political prop.

Almost all of most presidents' pardons are for people like her or for people who got unreasonably high punishments for the crime they committed. With Trump iirc it's literally in the single digits.

Assuming President Trump does not pardon anywhere near hundreds of thousands of people, I hope that President Biden will do it early. There's no time for delay here - each day it is not done is another day that hundreds of thousands of people spend locked in cages, which is time they will never be able to get back.

That said, other Republicans also have a responsibility to admit that they were being dishonest in pretending that there was any substance to Trumps voter fraud claims, and make it clear that Biden did, in fact, win. I dont know of a single person elected R that has apologized for the decertification stunt.
