I fucking LOVE Frijj milkshake and they generally don't sell it in Qatar. One day I found it in a random supermarket - though 4 times more expensive than it would be in England. But, not wanting to miss this chance because who knows when I would ever see it again, I bought 10 bottles

That was probably the most unnecessary, frivolous purchase in terms of like quantity and paying above the actual value of the product, though maybe not in terms of sheer cost

I probably do have something just as frivolous where more money was spent but I can't remember it offhand.

- the original founders' edition of SWTOR. I never hit max level.

- a $700 suit to wear to my girlfriend's holiday office party. It's a nice suit, but i felt physically ill on the ride home after purchasing it

- a ps4, just because my friend wanted to play bloodborne co op. I was already a pc gamer but figured it was the price of friendship

- not sure if frivolous, just wasteful, but I've missed trains, buses and planes before, and instead of arguing, just paid out the nose for the next one

- i bought a quest 2 and have played maybe 10 hours of echo arena in total

- The board game twilight imperium, 4th edition. I've had a blast playing other people's copies, but have never hosted

- before the FFG netrunner game was shut down, i bought a couple hundred dollars worth of supplemental boxes. I've played the intro box quite a few times, but no one wants to open those supplements or start deckbuilding

- I've spent probably a thousand dollars on art supplies and gaming miniatures in the past year. Nightstalkers and nighthaunt. I feel like I'm getting more personal enjoyment out of this one, but I'm clearly never actually going to play the games so it's a guilty pleasure

I bought virtual currency in Mafia Wars. Spent a bundle, too. I wanted all the cool pictures in my character's account, and I wanted to compete in the PvP part of the game.

Come to find out, other parts of the world were getting products for a lot less and the top players had already bought the maximum numbers of the most powerful gear. That's when I finally gave up.

My house. I didn't need a house. I was in a perfectly livable situation previously, albeit I was essentially subletting a room from someone, but the amount of money I spent on the house itself, furnishing it, and then dealing with all the repairs and other bullshit over the last year makes me wonder why I ever thought this was a good idea. If I had just kept that money invested, it would have compounded to way more cash than I'd probably ever spend.

The cost isn't even the worst part. The cost is bad- don't get me wrong- but the worst thing is that i now have to physically store them all.

Organization and display is a fun minigame when I'm feeling on top of things, but my apartment is currently a mess and I vehemently wish I had the closet and shelf space back!

I still to this day pay like $30 a month to Square Enix for FFXIV and FFXI accounts. In the last 5 years I have probably played both games combined less than 40 hours total.

I used to play both games religiously every day for a solid 4-8 hours a day back from release and I just never cancelled when I stopped playing

I also have at least 2 of every console I own in my house just because I don't want to move consoles around (dating back to the PS2). Except for PS5 but that was because I couldn't find a second one at retail

they have so much more effort put into them

I just spent $1000 on a TV a couple days ago that I don't necessarily need, but I've convinced myself it will be relevant for the entire console generation, despite not actually owning a next gen console yet. So maybe that.

More likely it's the thousands of cumulative dollars I've spent on comics and/or yugioh cards over the last ten years that are sitting in my closet in boxes.

Don't know really. Probably a mix of friends still playing and the missus (who I met after being a hardcore player) expressing interest in FFXIV. $30 a month was never really big enough for me to notice and go 'I need to cancel that' but I guess over 5 years you're looking at almost $5k.

I was paying for Crunchyroll for Jojo but I kept paying for it after the latest season ended for like 8 months. I don't use it for anything else. So yea, that was dumb as hell

I was one of the initial 2500, and this would probably have been my answer (especially with international shipping and import fees), but having just checked eBay, maybe it was a wise investment after all

I bought an animation cel from the old ninja turtle cartoon just to stick in in a closet. I should probably frame it or something.

Once I bought an expensive hookah for $200 but I only used it twice and now it sets there gathering dust for years and I have to worry about my cats knocking it over because its made of glass but otherwise I dont really think about it.

Spending about $180 for the Wynn buffet (for two) in Vegas on a holiday weekend, including $50-60 for skipping the line.
