There were a slew of good republican polls today. Georgia Senate +5. McSally +3. +4 Florida for Trump. +5 Biden for general. Tillis Cunningham tie. Daines +3 Montana Senate.

The Montana senate one isnt particularly good as that is around where its been for a while and Bullock is still polling well above expectations.

But there was also an Arizona +1 for Trump that obviously was quite good for him. Im starting to get the nagging sense of deja vu.

The good news is there were a slew of other national polls today that looked quite good and that IBD poll had been at +5 or so for a while now which is strange.

Biden still polling really well in Michigan and Pennsylvania, too. But it is becoming increasingly possible we wont know the winner come Election Day unless Florida pulls through for us which is a position I dont like.

I'm not too concerned yet, but they have definitely been underpolled. The polls from 538 look like this:

Mason Dixon (B+) (Sept 21 - 23) - Smith +8
Suffolk (A) (Sept 20 - 24) - Smith +10
SurveyUSA (A) (Oct 1 - 6) - Smith +7

These are too old to really be relevant now, but they're all from good pollsters and have around the same value. Then there are the more recent polls:

Change Research (C-) (Oct 12-15) - Smith +4
SurveyUSA (A) (Oct 16-20) - Smith +1
Civiqs (B/C) (Oct 17-20) - Smith +11

Both Change Research and Civiqs are not particularly well regarded pollsters so those polls I'd take with a grain of salt. The big one is SurveyUSA showing a one point race, which is out of line with everything before it. It is just one poll, but if you see another good poll showing a close race, then this suddenly becomes a race to watch.

...which sucks so yeah more polling here please.

Silver has noted, and a slew of the other data guys have agreed, that district-level polling has looked godawful for Trump and suggests he is in serious trouble, moreso than the state polls might suggest. Silver was saying that before adjusting for partisanship (because he's guessing there are more Dem internals than Rs) it looks like a 10-11 point shift in favor of Biden vs. Clinton... which translates to a 12-13 point national lead for Biden. Even you knock like 1-3 points off that to make that adjustment...

Another (Enten, I think, without finding the tweet again) noted that even the GOP internals (which as we've discussed are likely only publicly released if they're outliers in their favor) are showing Trump running 5 points behind 2016.

Just something worth keeping in mind before getting super anxious (though after 2016 I blame no one for it; even I can't completely shut down the anxiety)

I wouldn't tempt fate but that does appear to be the case.

Like I've said Trump's position leading up to this election reminds me quite a bit of Hillary Clinton's in 2016, considerably moreso than Trump's own. It really feels like he's watching his empire crumble before him.

It's useful because it sells NYC Democrats on the idea that the GOP isn't completely insane, so Democrats should try to work with them. It's not useful for winning elections, but it's very helpful for the Lincoln Project.

I am worried that Biden's lead has shrunk 1.5 points in the past week. I expected the polls to tighten before the election but I'd really hate for it to fall below 8 points before the election.
