key paragraph there:

The report revealed the percentage of Canadians who have contemplated suicide is up from six per cent when CMHA conducted its first survey in May. The pre-pandemic rate of suicide ideation was lower at 2.6 per cent. (The survey is considered accurate within 1.8 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, for results from the full sample.)

report also was done in September and the article acknowledges changes done that have gotten worse since then.
so 2.6% before, 6% in May, 10% in September, and something worse than that now.

I'm not surprised, mental health isn't taken as seriously as it should be and given how much things have gone up it isn't surprising more people are feeling despair.

well yeah, it's just more dramatic in canada's case of suicides. i think it was posted in here before about how Korean women were offing themselves a lot more too.

the US doesn't have fully accurate data yeton that - data on suicide deaths lag other signifiers by two years - but in August and September some preliminary data showed an uptick of 25%. cases of lonliness, depression, etc all were up significantly more too and those with those or other mental disorders have gone up too: 18-24 are at 75%, 25-44 up to 52%. this is consistent with the way data was going up in May as well, where depression was twice that of a 2014 study. overdosing is up to a point nobody knows now, just that upticks from May to April were March +18%, April +29%, May +42%. so uh... yeah. it's pretty bad on every metric and nothing is going to get better as Christmas hits.

Reading up on it, it is up to the states and it is triggered by unemployment rates generally. So states are ending it some places.

That sucks. Do you have any leads on jobs?

Government is a joke not getting aid to people. Losing their income and having a load of bills backed up to pay all at once while now being allowed to be evicted. Just dumb.

Yeah, I think it was up to the states. Here in SC they say it's up even tho to my knowledge more places are shutting down and basically everyone is still out of work. No, I don't have any leads on jobs, unfortunately, and I don't think my old job is coming back, either. Nobody around here is hiring. Yeah, I don't understand this thinking, now it's okay to evict people and have all the bills come due at the exact same time they're shutting down unemployment? It's a disaster and I'm not the only one.

So my fiancee's kids father's house has covid-19. They knew they had symptoms before he went over the past 2 times and didn't disclose and still had him go over. Now positive tested.

We are unsure how to go about with her kid. We tried to get him tested. They told us no unless he has symptoms which sounds super wrong.

Some are saying we have to quarantine 10 days regardless. Others are saying no unless a positive test.

My fiancee said she is going to work and her family's daily still as normal unless a positive. = /

A lot of states just won't plain test children without symptoms (like where I am). I don't agree with it either.

I'd say you should probably quarantine regardless and assume he has what is most likely a mild/asymptomatic carrier. Have you been in contact with the kid since?

He lives here. I haven't been in close contact but he is all over the house. So, it would be inevitable.

It definitely sounds like they don't want to test him though. This is how spread happens btw. They won't test him. She will get it and prance around like she normally does and spread it a ton if he does have it.

I mean some of that is on her but a lot of it is on the protocols also.

I hope they and you don't get it. If you do, I hope it's mild.

You can get a rapid test if any symptoms start showing up or a non-rapid one if you have symptoms for 3 days .

It's a tough position to be in. Like obviously you can't force her to quarantine, but should you go around telling other people that you three may possibly have been exposed to the virus? There can be a lot of social (and thus relationship) consequences, especially if you guys do have it and spread it to other people.

If you can I would still quarantine or at the very least severely limit your contact with other people. At least you can do some damage control by reducing the spread.

Haha wow.

I am not taking an mRNA vaccine that causes false positives for HIV. No chance.

That isnt Alex Jones, either. Its the New York Times reporting Australia canceling a 750 million dollar order over it.
It's for a vaccine that didn't pass trial phases, ulti, because it did that. It has nothing to do with the vaccines that went through trials and passed.

more than that, it has nothing to do with mRNA vaccines and it specifies what it's most similar to. right from the article:

The University of Queensland vaccine was one of several under development that contain a coronavirus protein that prompts a response from the immune system.

(...)

Prominent protein-based vaccines include one made by the Maryland-based Novavax, which is in Phase 3 trials, and another from Clover Biopharmaceuticals of China that is in Phase 1 trials.

legit nothing to do with Pfizer, Moderna, or mRNA.

The good news is that vaccine rollout seems to be point to a 5 month timeline, rather than the June/July or later timeline than before. Partly because they seem to have lowballed the amount of doses they were actually sending out.

Hardest part is convincing people not to "wait and see" as many seem to want to do.

Had to have a long talk with one of my cousins the other day because she was talking about how she talked to someone that works in a medical office(Not a doctor or anyone with extra knowledge of the situation, just works there) and they were "waiting to make sure no one grows a third arm or whatever". Dumb shit.

So we had the conversation where I basically had to lay out the "If you don't get vaccinated, you are going to get covid at some point. If you get covid, the lasting side effects are all but guaranteed worse than any potential effects of this vaccine".

Also I scored her kid a PS5. So get the damn shots.

Yeah, I've been using that rationale a lot. There are so many potential side-effects from the virus itself that are exactly as unknown as anything that could come from the vaccine, and a whole bunch of confirmed known ones that it's insane to take your chances with the virus. In addition, two of the "highest risk" potential side-effects from the vaccine (GuillainBarr syndrome and transverse myelitis) are at least just as likely to occur with coronavirus infection as well. And it should be added that only two instances of transverse myelitis showed up in any trial so far that I'm aware of, both in the AstraZeneca/Oxford adenovirus vaccine, and one was confirmed to actually be multiple sclerosis that was unrelated. The second is still part of the data that's being reviewed now and I expect to also be cleared as not related to the vaccine.

The main thing of concern noted so far from the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has been exceedingly rare allergic reactions that have all been handled readily with epinephrine.

And by exceedingly rare, I mean that out of millions already who have been vaccinated worldwide I believe the count is less than 10.

Reporting on the Oxford vaccine has been useless (and it's AstraZeneca's fault, their releases to the press have been so mixed and confusing) so I won't make a prediction one way or the other except to say that it's currently under review in the UK and a decision is expected by Chrismas.
