There are so many potential side-effects from the virus itself that are exactly as unknown as anything that could come from the vaccine, and a whole bunch of confirmed known ones that it's insane to take your chances with the virus. In addition, two of the "highest risk" potential side-effects from the vaccine (GuillainBarr syndrome and transverse myelitis) are at least just as likely to occur with coronavirus infection as well. And it should be added that only two instances of transverse myelitis showed up in any trial so far that I'm aware of, both in the AstraZeneca/Oxford adenovirus vaccine, and one was confirmed to actually be multiple sclerosis that was unrelated.
