You're talking about that CNN Biden+4 one? CNN has been a bit all over the place but yeah polls tightening up as always. I'd guess it's still a bit higher than that (like maybe Biden +6-8) but it was rather unrealistic to think he'd just hold that +11 lead the whole way through.

538 has Biden+8 on average (51-43).

It was like 8.6 earlier in the day but that CNN poll knocked it down a bit. I do think you'll see tightening in the polls and either way you just throw the CNN poll on the pile so I'm not here to "well actually" it but fwiw the other two polls today (both by higher rated pollsters) are Biden+9 and Biden+10. and Friday also had 3 double digit Biden leads. Thursday had a ton clumped at 7-9 which is what I suspect where it's at but the conventions this week and next are going to have it jump all around so =/

Probably won't have it regress back to normal until after Labor Day. We'll see it spike for Biden with the DNC then "oh my god panic" with the RNC first.

In some irony, I fully expect all the countries that "did well" will get slammed with covid in the fall and winter. While the United States will generally fade off because many areas already have been slammed and have enough immunity to naturally social distance.

Biden wins election and is praised for righting the Covid response. However, he actually did nothing different to cause it. It was simply a numbers game.

All countries start to relatively look similar in numbers when population and population density is taken into effect.

On the eve of a Democratic National Convention taking place as millions lose health care coverage, the health care industry is launching a new ad campaign pressing Democrats to back off the partys already compromised health care promises. That pressure seems to be having its intended effect on Capitol Hill as congressional aides say the party will not push the initiative if Biden wins. The signs of retreat come as health care industry profits are skyrocketing and the industrys campaign cash has flooded into Democratic coffers.

The Partnership for Americas Health Care Future (PAHCF) -- a front group created by health insurance, pharmaceutical and hospital lobbying groups to oppose Medicare for All -- announced on Friday that it is launching a new national ad campaign to persuade Democrats to abandon their plans to create a public health insurance plan. The group said it will run ads during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) this week. PAHCF is led by a former Hillary Clinton aide and run out of the offices of a D.C. lobbying firm led by former top Democratic congressional aides.

A substantial public option plan which polls show is wildly popular was the centerpiece of recent policy negotiations between supporters of former Vice President Joe Biden and progressive Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who had been pushing for a more expansive Medicare for All program. A draft of the party platform, approved by DNC members late last month, includes a pledge to pass a public option, or a government-run health insurance plan that would compete with private insurers.

Within 24 hours of the launch of the industrys new ads, however, anonymous Democratic congressional sources were telling The Hill that Democrats likely wont bother with the public option fight next year if Biden wins the election. Instead, they said the party will instead work to tweak the partys 2010 health care law, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which has done little to limit insurance or hospital costs and has failed to ensure universal coverage.

To justify the preemptive retreat, Democratic congressional aides told the newspaper that the partys moderate crop of 2020 Senate challenger candidates could make it harder to pass a public option. That assertion comes even though every single one of those candidates is currently campaigning in support of a public option, according to a TMI review of campaign statements.

The moderate Dems are never going to do anything resembling universal healthcare. They just don't want it. You have a better chance of getting it out of Trump and the Republicans - if that's what it takes to win elections they'll do it, but moderate Dems aren't even willing to pander.

If you're a member of the top 10%, it's probably a bad thing for you. You are going to be paying more because your tax dollars are going to go to paying for healthcare for the bottom 90%.

My guess is that with due to the extreme inefficiency of our current system, you can pay substantially more in taxes than an average taxpayer and still be better off with a public option, but the breakeven point is probably going to be around the top 10%. Maybe a little wealthier than that even (our health insurance is unbelievably bad).

But that's like, the entire Democratic donor class. So no surprise that they don't want it!

The death rate in the US at least is WAY down from where it was in March and April. We've gotten much better at treating it. Thus, the second wave in the US has not killed as many people as the first wave, even though there have probably been more cases in the second wave.

Is anyone aware of Obama doing anything similar?
