Yeah, I read about that Senate Intel story a few days ago and just sighed. Probably should have posted it but "example #58967 of Barr fucking up the Justice Department in a blatantly partisan manner" just depresses me nowadays.
Honestly, the big piece here is that it was a bipartisan referral.

Meaning Senate Republicans knew they were lied to during the impeachment process

And still chose not to call witnesses or have anything even slightly according to what you would consider normal process.

People need to be shouting that one from the rooftops. It completely kills any partisanship bullshit around the impeachment.

GOP drank the Koolaid, and it honestly would have been politically worse for the Democrats to continue to draw out the issue so they let it fall aside. Like, they already impeached him and it did nothing, what else were they going to do?

Well here I think a lot of the fault is on the media for initially buying Barr's bullshit "summary" letter of the Mueller report and then not being aggressive enough at correcting those false impressions.

So what you're saying is that the media is to blame for using Trump's blatant lies and corruption as neutral clickbait talking points instead of calling the bullshit out for what it is, thereby normalizing the current state of affairs and leading to an era where disinformation is at an all-time highest?

Nah, that sounds crazy.

That's simple. Because the Democrats held an actual trial. The trial produced a verdict. The verdict was NOT GUILTY.

There's a reason prosecutors don't file charges if they think someone probably committed a crime but don't think they can convict. If you go to trial and it results in an acquittal, that person is permanently exonerated even if you later find evidence that they're guilty. Even if a different jury would reach a different conclusion.

And please note the Republicans have never put Hillary on trial. They have no desire to do so and won't until and unless they think they can get a conviction. Because they don't want to put Hillary on trial and have her acquitted.

I told you guys for months what would happen, and it happened. Nancy Pelosi knew what would happen; that's why she was against impeachment. The Democratic Party forced her hand and it was exactly the wrong decision.

Again, trying to prevent Trump from destroying the country is not a better option than allowing him to do so even if the attempt is unsuccessful.

I'm also not convinced that the Democrats are in a worse position politically after impeachment, nor am I convinced that the impeachment failed to serve as a rebuke of Trump's actions.

Also he was not impeached over Russia but I'm not sure that actually matters for the conversation.

https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/1295951897300480000

... Buried at 1am, hours after lobbing the grenade and leaving it to sit. And really it doesn't address the awful editorialization they made, the issue wasn't so much that they "should've included more detail", but rather they added their own detail to reframe the nomination as a defiance, that she "did not endorse Biden" despite the fact that they acknowledge she's already done that.

The way I understand it, Joe Biden has two major obstacles going against him: practically no one actually seems excited about Biden himself being in office, and people who view the Democratic party as being the party of political correctness or whatever are obviously not going to be won over.

I've already stated the main reason why I think Biden will win, but I'd hardly be surprised either way. The above two factors plus America being such a hyper-capitalist society are to me the biggest things keeping Trump in the race.

Also, centrists going nuts over the AOC procedural nominating Bernie Sanders without daring to mention Joe Biden is a big part of the reason we leftists have trouble trusting you centrists so much.

I've barely seen this get local attention, much less national.

Back when the unmarked vans in Portland were news, the mayor of Pittsburgh came out very strongly against them. He's a progressive Democrat but not leftist.

At a protest over the weekend, an unmarked van came up and asked for directions, supposedly. Someone went to help, got arrested by plainclothes officers, released a few hours later. Contradictory explanations from the PD, mayor, and so on. Overall details are still a little hazy.

So protestors went to the mayor's house yesterday afternoon to demand actual answers and a promise that this arresting tactic won't be used again in the future, as I understand it. They've been camped out on the street ever since.

I agree wholeheartedly with the protests, but going to the mayor's house still seems to me to be a tad much. It's not like he's in a huge mansion away from other properties, there's other neighbors close by.

I don't think you are reporting this accurately tbqh based on what I read.

From what I understand, a man named Mathew Cartier (25 years old). Was standing in traffic, trying to direct traffic on his own whims, and causing traffic hazards walking among ongoing traffic. He was repeatedly told to disperse and leave the area due to the hazard he was causing and the possibility of causing an accident by plainclothes police officers. He continued and after being told multiple times to leave, was detained by those plainclothes police officers.

Peduto, who chose to support rioters and looters, of course is now the target. The protestors on his street are not demanding actual answers but demanding his resignation completely. Peduto instead of explaining why this arrest happened, condemned his own officers for arresting the man. However, the mob has its target in him now.

It is weird how we are so against plainclothes police officers yet weren't before. When that Southside Pagan group was arrested by plainclothes cops, I don't remember the outrage over them being there undercover to break up the drug ring in that area.

It's entirely possible that the information I saw was incorrect. I tried to look for other details but couldn't find much of anything.

I did see that the protestors have now dispersed.

I would argue that peduto has not supported rioters and looters, given that earlier this summer we had police in East Liberty firing off tear gas and rubber bullets at peaceful protestors a few yards away. Still no condemnation or accountability of those police actions. His administration has tried to placate both sides with its words, but his actions definitely do not support the protests at all.

I think a lot of politicians are paying lip service in order to try and maintain the protests and/or riots from spreading or getting bigger. However, what they don't realize is that coming out and explaining why it happened that way concisely would do more than giving what appears to be approval to what they are doing.

If when Rayshard was killed during his incident the Atlanta Mayor had come out and explained why what happened had happened instead of condemning the cops and saying they were wrong, the incident in the long run might have been better. Instead they are worried about maintaining their office moreso than retaining order.

Sure Peduto and whoever may have gotten heat and backlash and initial furthering spread of unrest. But, in the future, the protestors might realize that they have to have a clear cut reasoning for their issues before they go to the streets also.

Like come out and be like, if this situation was a legitimate issue like with Floyd I would agree with you. This is not like that situation and here is why. Etc.

I had always assumed plainclothes officers would display identification or somehow identify themselves before actually taking any action against a citizen. (Note: "Before" here means absolutely definitely "before" and not "after" or "while in the process of apprehending someone")

I'm also assuming they aren't now based on how it's being reported on now, but if they are doing this then I don't really understand what the issue is.

Large enough products sold in large quantities in America are generally made/assembled in America even when owned by a foreign company, on the basis that shipping them overseas is not very economic.
