Back when the unmarked vans in Portland were news, the mayor of Pittsburgh came out very strongly against them. He's a progressive Democrat but not leftist. At a protest over the weekend, an unmarked van came up and asked for directions, supposedly. Someone went to help, got arrested by plainclothes officers, released a few hours later. Contradictory explanations from the PD, mayor, and so on. Overall details are still a little hazy. So protestors went to the mayor's house yesterday afternoon to demand actual answers and a promise that this arresting tactic won't be used again in the future, as I understand it. They've been camped out on the street ever since. I agree wholeheartedly with the protests, but going to the mayor's house still seems to me to be a tad much.
