Reading about Outer Wilds Reminds me of that one Flash Game I played a decade or so ago on Kongregate called "Level Up". I love that kind of concept.

Yeah, Cave Johnson is easily the star performance of that game.

Celeste was on my first draft of like 25 games but got cut on the way down to 10. Happy to see it make it.

But that's kind of where I draw the line between characterization and story. Portal 2 is a pretty great example of that. I don't think the actual story is anything special, but the characters make it fun.

Wow thats crazy. Thanks so much for catching it. I like this list a lot more now because of course I would lmao.

A big surprised that Red Dead Redemption 2 wouldnt have made if without my points, and that only two others had it. But with that in mind it also doesnt surprise me that it has the highest point average. It was my +10, it is the absolute peak of AAA storytelling IMO. I get that B8 doesnt necessarily go to Rockstar games for story and until now they would be right! This is unbelievable stuff though.

So now it seems that my entire list will make it! There are only two left. Also, 39-41 on the updated list are all in my top four haha.

There are two games yet to appear on this list that have a similarly high average. You'd think that it would be impossible for a mainstream game to win this category, but for the longest time, the winner was actually a game in the Top 10. The very last vote that game received was a +1 (+4) that brought down the average and didn't even shift the game's position in the rankings.

S;G is in a unique position where it's a well regarded VN, but also a large number of people who haven't even played it would put it on their list because they watched the show, since the show is widely considered such a strong representation of the original. I personally know 2 people who would say S;G is "probably" their favorite VN, even though they haven't played it.

Compare to Umineko, for example, which is widely considered one of if not the worst VN adaptation of all time, even more so than the infamous Tsukihime.

I didn't even know Steins;Gate was a VN game for the longest time. It was the same thing for Touhou, and I thought that was some old internet/anime thing akin to gorillaz and hatsune miku with all the personalized music accompaning the fan comic stuff

Arthur Morgan is the best realized character in the medium. Max Payne series and Red Dead were also solid, everything else ranges from bad to below average narrative and characters.

Max Payne 1 and 2 (the good ones) had nothing to do with Rockstar.

I would never even think about any other Rockstar game. The thing is RDR2 is effectively the anti-Rockstar story. It's wild.

And yes, I will agree that Arthur Morgan is the best realised player character ever. Every single thing about playing that character serves the story.

I definitely expect to see 8, 7, and 6, and my bottom 2 were more respect-voting than actual love. 5 might have appeared lower, but I doubt it'll show up now. Only 3 has no chance of realistically appearing now.
