Game over based I think favours Sain even more than Kent. Kent's shitty luck makes him face a risk of death by crit a lot more frequently.

Hm. Fair enough. I just figured higher defense = less likely I die. It might be more likely I just die from poor tactics than from bad crit luck lol

If you have worse tactics I would agree Kent is less likely to die even considering luck because Kent is less likely to get obliterated by a mage due to careless placement

Really the answer is to just get whichever one is cheaper though, so pass on Sain if he gets too expensive and go with Kent. They're both powerhouses.

The early game does kinda suck in a 4 man draft though when you think of it. Like if anyone doubles up on Sain/Kent/Wil/Florina the one who gets none of them probably does die on that Dorcas map. I don't think Dorcas is a viable substitute to help you there cause you have to recruit him for him to help on that map which compromises Natalie.

I guess Wil is likely to be cheap though but yeah.

Wil won't necessarily be cheap. The other players may try to drive up the price of Wil for the player who doesn't have one of Sain, Kent and Florina knowing that that player really needs Wil. There is a risk they end up with an expensive Wil they don't need but that still means the fourth player goes without one of the four.

I'm pretty confident that at least 2 of the players have not considered this specific scenario. But we'll see. In my test run I did successfully recruit dorcas and get him inside the room before the mishap so I'd say he qualifies as a savior there as well.

Oh okay. Well if Dorcas is available too yeah it becomes less possible to lock someone out at least. I didn't remember the map too closely figured he was too far out.

That being said it will suck if someone doesn't take any of them because they hadn't considered that map too. I really think that trade rule should just be relaxed in maps where you don't have merlinus.

It's not so bad in FE7 where Serra and Priscilla are your only early game healers. You don't get a Guiding Ring until chapter 20 unless you have Matthew, so Erk, Lucius, and Canas can't promote until then.

(Seriously though, I agree Serra went for way too much there. She'd be useful, yeah, but 40% of your resources? Too steep IMO. I know I've been joking about him all this time but I think Marcus is the only one I'd pay that much for early. Even Sain/Kent I think I might pass on assuming I could try to pick up the other later.)

Man, so that was something. So many aspects of the auction went completely differently than one would have thought up front...for various reasons. Afterward we all agreed with the notion that we went into it with rough values for each character in mind, but once we got a round or two in everything got turned upside down for a dozen different reasons.

alright, now be nice....

anyway here's the link to the draft summary I recorded.

First column, top to bottom is the order the characters were brought up for auction

Each player, (A, B, C, D) has a column. Left to right, top to bottom is the order of the bids for that character

x means pass

The rule we came up with was you could pass and then re-enter the bid if you wanted, but if you personally passed three times in a row then you're done for that character

Eventually I started putting xxx to indicate the player said "no need to ask me two more times about this character, I'm passing for good"

There will probably be some slight inconsistencies, as I was drinking beers and laughing and meme-ing at points

B's most glaring flaw to me is only Erk for magic. Which isn't necessarily awful but it doesn't inspire confidence, either. And Nino just doesn't count lol

D's most glaring flaw is lack of strength in early Hector's tale

I would agree with that assessment. C has some good units but not enough of them, and is in real trouble if Lowen and Florina get bad RNG on their level ups

If Player A can get through Lyn mode the team is ok, but that seems difficult.

Ironically Player C's buy of Canas was probably worse than Serra.

Feel like this will be B vs D though. I think D is significantly easier to play early but if B can get far in the game has higher upside.

I'm guessing D > C > B > A here. Mostly based on the fact you said the players aren't very good at the game and I think B has some blunder potential. But I could see B winning too.

Did Player A get Wallace because he needs help to get through Lyn mode? That's the only reason I can think of as to why he'd pick Wallace after he already picked Geitz.

Well Geitz was kind of a throw away accident (only 3 points)

But, yeah what happened was it got down to just the garbage tier left and Wallace was just basically the most worthwhile pick so A went all in with their final 8 points

I would definitely not bother with Wallace when there are units that can actually do things like Vaida and Jaffar left. Sure he exists for two maps in Lyn Mode if you need help there, but one of those is utterly trivial anyway, and in the main game he has a meaningful chance of death before you can even recruit him, so if you want to use him he can force game overs on you for no reason (granted, Jaffar can do this also, as can Nino to a lesser extent if for some reason anyone cares about her beyond recruiting Jaffar)

Actually that brings a question to mind, what rules are you using for side chapters?

No special rules for side chapters. You can do them if you want.

First win criteria is farthest chapter reached. So if hypothetically someone got their 5th game over in chapter 25 with 0 side chapters completed and someone else got their 5th game over in chapter 24 with all previous side chapters completed, the player who reached chapter 25 would win.

If the furthest chapter is a tie, (and they actually beat the game) then it's fewest game overs (less than 5). If that's a tie then most side chapters completed is the next tie break.

Yeah we're not all super well versed in the game nor do we all care too much lol. By that point things were just kind of silly.

Initial impression is that player B wins but all the teams are serviceable if they can survive early game and get their prepromotes.

Player C also more-or-less needs The Best Florina of All Time which is, uh, not guaranteed to happen.

I think the big potential for error is B overusing Oswin and Sain early and the lords and guys with low starting speed like Wil and Dorcas becoming dead weight. Like it's a hard team to train weak units on especially due to no healer.

If they can last till the chapter Rath and Heath show up they've basically won though. Like it's definitely the strongest set of units overall, just not sure on how well it gels.

I don't think that's such a big issue. He can promote Sain in Lyn's mode, then promote Oswin with the early Knight's Crest. And having the stream of Raven -> Fiora -> Heath to fill in for the guys becoming dead weight is a nice boon. He just needs to find kills for Erk to get him to level 10 so he can start staffbotting.

I was just assuming this was going to happen no matter what. If not from a lack of training, then because they probably die during training. Oswin/Sain/Erk/the lords make a decent team even without them, luckily.

Bigger issue is that there's no Guiding Ring (without Matthew's help) until partway through Chapter 20. Not having Serra or Priscilla really sucks in that regard, especially if you also don't have Matthew

I never knew this until like yesterday, but apparently you automatically get Merlinus a few chapters later if you don't do the side chapter for him.

Training the lords themselves, which is a must, can be a bit of a problem too is more what I was getting at. But yeah maybe it'll be fine. I just think it's a team you need to play more carefully.

B probably has the most solid all-around team, but I wouldn't sleep on A. Once they're out of Lyn mode that's a pretty nice team and even there they have Matthew so they can bring him in as a surprising powerhouse from the jump in Hector mode. I know they're missing the horse trio (and Florina) but yeah. Lack of healers early is off set by Marcus IMO. He'll be the workhorse until you can promote Lucius but he can handle it.

I'm player D. Might have been obvious to anyone who was paying close attention (the way I was talking about Kent previously).

My only major regret is I am really afraid of chapter 12. I only have Hector on the north group and only Eliwood/Bartre/Rebecca on the south group. I should have just foregone the idea of trying to save a chunk of change for scooping up a handful characters for cheap at the end and just dumped a stack on either Oswin or Lowen.

The player who has the most experience with the game assures me chapter 12 will be easier than I think if I just put Hector on a forest and play it safe, but I still don't feel great about it.

Lots of thoughts about how the draft played out. So much that I don't really want to ramble much because I'd be here all day.

Can't believe I landed Legault for 5. Can't beleive I let Dorcas go for 6 (considering I ended up with nobody strong in chapter 12). Kinda surprised I got Nilsian for 13.

It was absolutely a blast and I kind of want to just draft again, honestly.

I completed Lyn's Tale last night. Got Kent to 20/1, Nils to 8, and Lyn to 4.

In the spirit of the challenge, I didn't "abuse" any to level up. Just gave Kent every kill and danced every turn. Lyn only got EXP in the prologue and in chapter 4.

Oh, and some in chapter 9.
