Ok so potentially huge thing to consider here...

...I have a light rune. From chapter 17. When and where do I use it to maximize the advantage? I figure there's probably some way I can leverage it into being worth more than the 400g it sells for, given how damn useful it could potentially be.

My first thought is to pair it with the one Isadora joins with to block off the path to Nils late in that chapter.

I think either Hector or Lyn has to talk to him.

I think he goes up and left until he reaches the edge of the map and fucks off. Might just go straight up and out the stairs on HHM though. Recruiting him is kind of a pain, but if your Hector and Kent can survive plunging into the enemy line it might work out.

Using a Light Rune? Uh....wow. The Isadora chapter is a good choice since there are just a lot of bottlenecks there. Another good place is probably Light since that can get kinda hairy if any boss leaves their room.

Legault isnt too bad. If you go fast enough, you should intercept him right when you get to the boss. The bigger problem is that Hector potentially has a round where he cant do anything except recruit Legault.

BTW the last normal draft I had of FE7 had my Sain being incredibly shitty. He was getting doubled by *Mercenaries* by endgame.

Legault will go up and to the left where he'll run away (I don't remember if he leaves on the left side of the map or through those gaps on the top). If your Hector/Kent can just run ahead he should be easy enough to get to, and if you can get the Sleep staff in 17x (admittedly this is not an easy thing to get without Florina since you have to risk the middle group going hostile) you can try to have Priscilla put him to sleep to buy you a few turns (just surround him on the turn he wakes up to keep him still, since he can move immediately after waking up)

The only specific Light Rune strat I know of is for the Kenneth map and only really matters if you want Harken (which you don't), so...uh yeah Isadora's join map sounds like a nice place for it. Speaking of, I hope you get Kenneth's map, getting Karel is much easier on that map. Priscilla should be able to out level Bartre so it shouldn't be too hard.

Nice tip. After doing my homework, getting the sleep staff was easy. First, clear out all the aggressive enemies. Then, have someone in position to talk to Fargus (5 spaces away). With two mounted units, you can hit both of the inner villages in one turn, which aggros fargus and his lackeys, but then you just complete the chapter before your turn is over.

Moving on to the pirate ship...

Oh good. I thought about that but I didn't think you could reach that village in one turn from outside the aggro range. My memory of the map (or where the aggro line is maybe) is apparently faulty

Yeah, that's the smart way to get the villages.

As for the pirate ship, is Kent good enough to just rush the boss? The earlier you can take that guy down, the better.

A Kent that hit 20/1 in Lyn Mode probably has the HP to survive a crit if you can manage to have him at full health, which is admittedly not easy since you have to clear out dudes every turn to get to him.

The boss has Luna, but I'd rather take that risk instead of getting swarmed by Pegasus Knights, especially when 2 of his units can't attack them on enemy phase.

Looking at the pirate ship map, I feel like I can just put Hector and Kent at the top of the stairs and it won't be too bad? Some pegasus knights will come in from the side but I shouldn't have much trouble against them with bartre, rebecca, and priscilla.

Is it their combined levels or their combined experience gained after joining your team?

Cuz like, technically Serra and Lucius are on my team. Technically Dorcas and Raven are on my team.

I literally just learned you can take advantage of the trade action to change which weapon a character has equipped after they've already taken their turn, by just taking the item you want them to equip and then giving it back in the first slot.

That's been a FE strat I've used (and abused) for over a decade. Works in all of the ones I've played (So 7, 8, Tellius, Awakening, Fates, and 3H)

The only ones I know of that it doesn't work in are Gaiden/SoV and Genealogy of the Holy War, one of which doesn't have an inventory system and the other doesn't allow trading at all.

Merlinus - multiple in range but only a single space so at most 1 hit (the peg. knight who goes here dies to rebecca the next turn)
Priscilla - only 1 shaman can hit, not dangerous
Bartre - can potentially be hit by 3 pegasus knights but worst case he lives with 4 HP
Lyn - taking a ride with Kent
Eliwood - has a lancereaver

Bartre actually has 40% speed growth, his base is just really bad.

40% isn't actually that great, especially with that horrible base and no gain on promotion. He doesn't even pass Dorcas on average until level 17. And anyone with half-decent speed should be able to double an enemy pegasus knight with a steel lance. Enemy pegasus knights have such terrible con that they need something like 8 speed to have 0 AS with a steel lance.

Growths are lower in FE7 than in other games, so 40 isn't terrible. And 3 in a row with 40% growth isn't that uncommon. (which was more my point. Its too early to see if Bartre is speed blessed)

40% is good on paper, but bad when you have a garbage base stat like Bartre's speed or Rebecca's strength. Bases > Growths

So I very carefully and systematically cleared out the whole island.

Then with a 23% chance, Uhai crit twice in a row to kill Hector.

Cool.

Why did you have Hector fight Uhai? Kent should've been able to handle him.

Yeah I don't think even a RNG blessed Hector stands much chance against Uhai, dude is fast, on a forest and has weapon triangle advantage (you can bait him to use his Longbow but if you don't kill him before enemy phase, which isn't trivial to do, he'll just go to the Killing Edge)

Hector was more likely to live. Kent would've died from a single crit whereas Hector would've had to get crit twice. >_<

Either way, it's a bad beat. ~5% chance he double crits.

I pretty much figured the run would ultimately end on a dumb low % crit sooner or later. Just kinda painful to watch when it's a dumb low % double crit lol

Fair enough. Yeah bosses with killer weapons tend to be a pain in the ass. I hope you have some good ranged attack options by the desert map so you don't have to go melee against Paul <_<

Pro tip: Putting a unit in range of multiple enemies that are guaranteed to kill them is not an optimal tactic

I haven't played any more yet. Player B wiped out on chapter 17, not sure the details. But he had to reset multiple times on 14 trying to recruit both erk and Priscilla (for raven)
