Player C beat the game using 6 resets. One was a gray area thing that we let go because we failed to discuss it beforehand and it felt like a super lame way to lose. Zephiel (is that his name?) died in Battle Before Dawn before he really had a chance to do anything. So we agreed that we'll just wait and see whether that actually makes a difference in who wins (spoilers: it won't).

But the good news is he's lent me his gameboy player disc so that I can stream my demise.

I'm so salty that my disc went missing at some point. Those things are like 60 bucks. And I looked into using wii homebrew shenanigans to hack a gamecube memory card to run a free thing that emulates a gba on the gamecube, but in following the setup I learned that my wii is mysteriously cursed and can't install the homebrew channel. Frustrating.

Well, my prediction couldn't have been more wrong. Though I didn't expect player C to sacrifice his firstborn to get a Lyn that good.

He used 4 resets on chapter 12, and 1 reset on chapter 19x because he didn't bother to look up what turn Kishuna left, and got wrecked by snipers

Though after watching him play I have to point out that having two strong mounted combat units early on in Hector's tale is super useful, and player C was the only one who had that (Florina and Lowen)

A only had Marcus

B only had Sain

D only had Kent (and Priscilla but not promoted yet)

And, yeah Player C has beaten HHM like 8 times compared to a combined 0 for the rest of us so this is pretty much exactly what I expected (even down to the ordering of the other players)

I have no idea why he went to 19x. I thought it was a bad idea before anything bad happened. Without Matthew there's nothing to gain from it.

This kind of depends on how he dies. If Jaffar decides to be a derp and runs north, giving the Swordreaver fighters free reign to charge in, then yeah that's just the game being dumb. If Jaffar cooperates and Zephiel doesn't face tank the guys he has weapon triangle advantage over, then it's generally on the player because you can prevent him from having to face anything more than one, maybe two Iron Axe Fighters (assuming you have good mounted units, so in a draft context this is admittedly hard to judge)

Most likely because number of side chapters completed was the second condition for breaking ties after number of resets used

I didn't actually watch him play battle before dawn but I also am 99% confident it won't be a difference maker so I just said "yeah sure whatever" when he brought it up that it happened

I'm not too surprised Player C won. Having 3 lords to bolster your numbers makes things more forgiving of smaller rosters and he had a pretty solid base of strong units.

Heck I had it at D > C > B > A in terms of win chances. If I knew C was the best player I would've def had them winning.

Not sure yet...I think my team is pretty alright. Being stuck with only Anima magic (until Renault lol) might end up being a nuisance.

My failures so far have really just come down to poor play for the most part. Matthew's seemingly inconsequential death ended up costing me 2 resets when I had to fight Guy. I used one reset literally turn 1 putting a lord in range of 2 enemies they couldn't handle assuming 1 would miss.

Eh, it's not that big of a deal when there's one dark magic user and light magic is fairly weak.

I beat 19 and 19x

Sadly I left like 4 or 5 levels of EXP behind in 19x because I misunderstood one of the mechanics that once you kill the boss, Kishuna never leaves unless you attack him directly

Thought I had to seize the gate or else he'd leave, so I left Eliwood behind in a certain spot where the reinforcements wouldn't be able to reach him by the time I was finished, only to realize if he'd not been stranded I could've farmed up all the neutered mages and killed the rest of Kishuna's entourage

anyone know if the range on staves rounds up or down when it's magic / 2 ?

There's...a chance priscilla may not be able to even get in range to use the sleep staff on legault

I'm assuming it rounds down. Right now her magic is 9, so a range of 4. I don't have any door keys so I would have to try sleeping him through the thicker portion of the walls. If he walks along the same row of the map where the boss is, which seems likely(?) then Priscilla would need a range of 5 to hit him. So even if I do get her a level up in the first 6 turns, there's no guarantee she'll get that extra range.

Serenes Forest notes in its calculation page that decimals are rounded down except in a few stated exceptions (and does not list Staff Range as one.) So if I had to bet I'd guess it rounds down. However, it also notes that the minimum range on 1-Mag/2 staves is 1-5 so I think you're safe there.

The wiki says that an Archer and a cav have droppable door keys, so you should be able to get some more.

Nothing in the map drops door keys in HHM, I looked over the map the last time I played. The only door keys you can get have to be stolen.

And I just realized, never mind Legault, if the enemy thieves don't unlock the door that's right in front of the boss, there's no way I'm gonna be able to get the member card, I don't think (unless the thief who has it actually tries to go for chests? I'm thinking he just runs away though). The only way to reach the main room without unlocking a door is to go all the way around to the bottom right corner and break through the wall.

We'll see how it goes, I guess.

Oh. The wiki said some items didn't drop in hard mode but the door keys weren't one of them. And that one was supposed to be the "good" wiki.

IIRC someone does go after the chests, I forget if it's Legault or the Member Card Thief though. Not 100% certain on this though.

Edit: Looking at a HHM FAQ and it seems Legault is the one who opens the right side treasure chests. It also seems to suggest that (absent interference I assume) that Legault and the Member Card Thief will exit the map from the top-left after Turn 8 so that would be yor time limit not counting any means you can slow them down.

As for the door in front of the boss. ...I know the thieves open it on some difficulties, don't know if HHM is one of them though.

I'm pretty sure they won't open the door by the boss. I think Member Card Thief tries to grab the chests on the west side before leaving, but don't quote me on that. Legault I'm pretty sure just escapes so yeah, good luck getting to him

I have a feeling my shot at recruiting him will come down to one roll on a 60% chance of a sleep staff

The calc is 30 + (Magic x 5) + Skill - (Resistance x 5) + (Distance from enemy x 2), so with 9 magic and Legault's base res of 4, you get (75 + skill) - (30), so 45 + whatever Priscilla's skill is. Her base is 6, so she can at least get it above 50% where true hit starts to rig it in your favor.

Sleep failed with a 55. Buuuut after seeing how the chapter played out, there's no way in hell l could have made it to him in time to talk anyway, short of me hitting 3 sleeps in a row. The hallways to the north and east got super clogged with mages and knights.

Oh well. Moving on.

Got Rebecca to 12 and promoted her.
