I was in the left field bleachers getting soaked in beer. What a magical feeling.

I'll be there for game 3 or 4 too probably. Haven't worked that out yet.

Can't believe he literally tried coming in here acting like a his lack of passion meant he was magnanimous or something. Especially when this team is the greatest in at least 2 decades. Pathetic.

The Astros should win as they are the best team in baseball and better suited for the playoffs than the Yankees, but of course anything can happen. The Astros were by most accounts the best team in baseball last season too, and they obviously didn't win the WS.

The biggest reason I think the Astros will win this series is they're going to put up early runs in almost every game and I think they'll go wire to wire in three of their wins. The Yankees are built to pile up regular season wins. They're built even worse for the playoffs than they were two years ago for this series.

Like, as an example, Severino is going to be wrecked if he pitches as badly as he did against the Twins.

One thing I've heard the stats on that puts it in perspective: From a statistical standpoint, for the Yankees to win the World Series, it would require them to do so with arguably the worst starting rotation to ever win the World Series. (Edit: This was before they lost German, too)

It's comparable to how the Giants won the two Super Bowls under Eli with statistically two of the worst teams to ever win. Just to make the World Series with their starting rotation would put them in rarified air.

Houston is just a better team and has a huge strength where the Yankees have a gaping flaw. The bullpen may be able to hold leads, but it actually needs leads first to be able to hold them.

The problem lies in that I don't think the Yankees will hold the lead very often this series.

one of the stupidest things i've ever seen

Tanaka has a 1.54 playoff ERA (1.2 if you don't count that wild card game. i don't consider the wild card game a postseason game)
Paxton is good RIGHT NOW, his first half is irrelevant
Severino has a very small sample size but also an ERA barely over 1
even Happ has been great his last few outings

starting pitching and bullpen are both considerably better than when they won it all in 2009. and lineup is on par if not better.

seriously, how can you say this after the Yankees just dominated a vastly better offensive team than the Astros just struggled with?

Yeah to say this rotation is potentially the worst ever to be in World Series contention is downright absurd. And they are absolutely a much better team than they were in 2017.

You can make all the excuses you want about why the Twins lost, but even if you want to do boil it all down to bad luck or the Twins underperforming, the Yankees themselves looked overall really good.

I think this is going to be a close series either way. And Cole alone looks like he might be the biggest obstacle for the Yankees. However, I'm a lot more confident in them now than I was a couple months ago.

Everything has worked out perfectly for us. To not make this a series that goes the distance would be a massive failure. If we lose in 7 games, it's whatever, but if we don't at least push these assholes to 7 games it will be on Boone's shoulders for being worse than Girardi like he undoubtedly has always been.

But we definitely need to punish the Astros for letting Boston win last year.

This was before they lost German so it's a regular season stat.

I can't reasonably put stock in anything the Yankees do to the Twins in the playoffs though. I put it more on the Twins being the underperforming dogs they always are.

Or really put much stock into anything anyone does to the Twins in the playoffs considering 16 straight losses.

reminder the NL were like 15-20 games over .500 vs the AL , just sayin'

the AL teams get to look better all season long because there's more complete disaster teams to beat up on. I haven't looked at what the over .500 NL teams are though vs the over .500 AL teams, would be interested to know that this year if anyone wants to do the legwork.

blade said it would be the worst (ok maybe not worst, but one of the worst) rotation ever. just because they've done well in your extremely small and very recent sample size doesn't change the fact that the rotation has been bad.

I just did some a Baseball Reference play index search

Worst Starter ERAs to win the world series:

1. 1996 Yankees (4.96)
2. 2000 Yankees (4.87)
3. 2006 Cardinals (4.79)
4. 1993 Blue Jays (4.63)
5. 2009 Yankees (4.48)
6. 1987 Twins (4.47)
7. 2015 Royals (4.34)
8. 1936 Yankees (4.33)
9. 1999 Yankees (4.33)
10. 2004 Red Sox (4.31)

2019 Yankees starter ERA is 4.51, so they'd be 5th worst of all time.

So yeah. Arguably the worst, since we can use more than just ERA to evaluate pitchers, but definitely would be one of the worst.

LMFAO

I can't believe there's a meme that Boone is doing anything revolutionary.

He inherited the team that Girardi basically built from the ground up and got the added benefit of GiancarLoser and to this point has not taken that team as far as Girardi did with the inferior version.

He has yet to beat a team in the post-season that had a better record like Girardi did. He was embarrassed by the Red Sox last year, our hated fucking rival.

He has accomplished fuck all and I am still upset at the way the organization dumped Joe without giving him a shot at finishing the job with the team he helped build.

If Boone doesn't get to seven games against the Astros AT LEAST, then I will torment you both off the board. You won't be able to make a post in any topic for the next year without me saying something about how you were wrong about the Boone/Girardi situation

and that's lose/lose for you because if Boone proves me wrong and gets to the WS what are you gonna do? Troll me for my team making it to the World Series?!
