And the first... "Movie" for the next portion of Legend of the Galactic Heroes was AWESOME! It's basically gonna be another 3 episodes, as each "film" is 25 minutes long? At least the first one was.

I don't understand this tactic. Why make 3 films if they are gonna be the same length as episodes? I loved the first season, it was really intriguing and done well.

It was originally going to be a TV series and was announced as such. Due to production issues (including an unforeseen director change due to the original director having a work conflict because he was directing Run With The Wind at the same time as Black Fox's production) it was delayed for several months and eventually downsized into the first major arc of the anime being released as a movie. It was a rare example of the higher-ups actually choosing the benevolent route that keeps the staff happy and healthy, not the route that forces the staff into ruthless and insane workrates to rush the show to its deadline and risk a lackluster product riddled with QUALITY being released.

If the movie does well enough, I would like to believe that they would go on to finish the story by making the TV anime as they originally planned.

We finally have some sort of update regarding the Princess Principal movies that were announced a while ago. The first will be released next April, and Aoi Koga (who also voiced Kaguya from Kaguya-sama: Love Is War) is the new voice of Ange after her previous VA retired due to health issues.

Back to talking about actual anime... Funimation's simuldub of Black Clover finally reached episode 100 and holy shit it lived up to the hype that I've been hearing from the sub watchers for weeks. Asta & Yuno vs. Licht was the best fight of the series so far, and it might not even be over yet.

It's definitely had some good ones. Oddly enough, the one that I see most mentioned as people's favorite (the third OP) was actually my least favorite.

I really liked fairy tail but the longer it went the faster it was losing me, up to this day i haven't finished neither the manga or the anime, and i was at like a few chapters away from the end of the manga... i just totally lost interest by then...

It has a fairly satisfying conclusion to plot threads left open thru the series. It just never peaked to the same levels as Natuto, MHA, FMA, etc.

I caught up on Carole and Tuesday.

I can understand why some people didn't like the more political route it started to go, but I feel like it is so bang-on with the current political climate and the way musicians can comment on it... it is so poignant and just bang on.

just finished up cop craft myself. a little surprised I did, since most seasons I struggle to follow even 1 show without forgetting about it partway through but this season I did 2. I dunno, something about it was just sorta charming.

good points:
- characters & character development
- setting
- plot / themes

bad points:
- art
- animation quality
- cuts & scene direction

maybe I should just read the novels considering what my complaints here are lol

I've started reading Vinland Saga, and I'm really liking it a lot so far. Just got into the 30's though, so I have a LOT left before I'm caught up lol.

Is the anime doing it justice? I might watch that once I'm done.

Started Granbelm

I've now made it through episode 8 of Angelic Layer. I wouldn't say the show has been great so far, but it's been cute and fun, which is about what I expected. It handled Misaki's "rookie protagonist suffering their first loss and needing to get over it and grow from it" subplot pretty well, and besides their one single loss to a freaking 5-year-old prodigy, Hikaru has been kicking ass and things seem to be looking up.



Also today, I finally took the dive back into the deep ocean of suffering known as WIXOSS. So far, I've only watched the first two episodes of Lostorage Incited WIXOSS that introduce the two new protagonists, who were childhood friends in the time before the series but have yet to reunite in the series proper. My first impressions say that this series didn't start as well as Selector Infected WIXOSS, and neither of the new protagonists are as cool as Ruuko was. But it's too early to tell for sure, and we'll see how things go.



As a nice bonus, one of the new protagonists is voiced by Yuka Iguchi (AKA Miku in Symphogear), who also sings the OP for the season.

This bit was too good, got me to chuckle out loud. Episode 1 was fun. The robots are cool, their proportions are very SD and it's incredibly suitable that they've got visible "eyes." I'm looking forward to episode 2. Somewhat concerned that Kohinata and Shingetsu might break friendship going forward, based on what I know so far.

Good, you overcame one of the snags I was afraid you might hit. I wasn't sure if you'd like the SD mecha designs. I thought they fit the whole "magical girl controlling the mecha on strings like a puppet" aesthetic of the show perfectly, but a lot of people were apparently turned off by them.

Of course I did, it was great. Also, once the dub premieres (yes, Funimation is simuldubbing this shit) I'm going to watch the first episode of that and decide whether I want to watch the rest subbed or dubbed.

I know the guy who does the bookworm LN translations so I've heard a lot of stuff about it. Apparently it gets super indepth detailed on a bunch of stuff that we sorta take for granted but was pretty tricky back then. I remember him having to look up books about medieval paper-making and stuff <_<

Oh yeah I love SD and mechs, they go hand in hand. Super Robot Wars is a positive influence in this regard and there's SD Gundam, CB Chara, SD Macross as well. I'd bet the folks who don't get the appeal were either unfamiliar to mecha shows or being familiar, were the serious sort who can't stand anything unrealistic.

Anyway, chibi robos are very rare to see in an original work but I'm definitely glad for the designs and the strings control scheme, which believe it or not, I've always thought would be great in a robot show but had yet to see.

So far, Funimation has picked up 3 of the 5 shows I was at least mildly interested in this season, HiDive got 1, and the last still has no announcement. Crunchyroll completely struck out when it comes to seasonal anime, but at least they got the BLACKFOX movie that I've been hyped for.
