Kawhi needs to play, at minimum, 48 minutes in a 48 minute game.

He's leaving in a few months, wear him all the way down.

I keep seeing the media mention that Zion could opt not to enter the draft and retry next year. I don't get the logic behind it. As a number 1 pick you are basically guaranteed to be picked by a bad franchise, how does delaying it until next year even help. You're also delaying that second big money contract by another year.

They're also overstating his unhappiness saying he looked pissed at the lotto results but when you watch the live video that isn't the case at all.

because he wants to play in NY/LA/MIA or whatever

(edit) i don't know if zion specifically does, but that would be why he could stay out of the draft

Right but there's no guarantee of a big market team winning the lotto next year either. And some of the teams in the high end of the lotto this year will surely be better next year just looking at their roster and cap situations.

Looking at potential bad teams for next year (with way too little information)

The Bulls and Cavs are probably still bad next year I guess. Miami might be as they have no cap space so will roll out a similar roster. Suns might be up there again because they are the Suns. Wizards are probably fucked because of the John Wall situation and might opt to blow it up. The Hornets are probably bad if Kemba walks.

Like I get him being salty if the hope was he'd go to NYK and they would get 2 big name FAs and he'd suddenly be on a contender. But the rumors were they were going to trade him to the Pelicans for AD anyway.

I honestly don't think the Pelicans is that bad a spot for him. He either gets to play with AD or they trade AD and pile up a ton of young assets to put around him. They then have a chance to see if those assets mesh together or try flip the assets for some established players. They'd also probably end up with cap space in a year or two from piling up rookie contracts and then picking which ones to keep and which to trade.

Trying to think what his options are

Zion, AD, Jrue whatever the hell else the Pelicans have
Zion, Jrue + some combination of Kuzma, Ingram, Ball, 4th pick (Culver? Hunter? Idk)
Zion, Jrue + some combination of DSJ, Mitchell Robinson, Kevin Knox, RJ Barrett
Zion, Jrue + some combination of Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart?

I honestly don't know what the Celtics offer now or if they even go for it with Kyrie potentially leaving. Maybe you Celtics fans know better.

Maybe they keep AD for half a season and flip him before trade deadline if it isn't working.

the celtics fans' party line generally overrates our trade assets. the 3 picks we have this year (sacto, celtics, and clippers) are all 14 or lower, while next year's memphis pick is top 6 protected and memphis could definitely improve again.

tatum is generally considered the best trade asset on the table among active bidders. marcus smart is incredible, but his hustle is more valuable to a contender than to a rebuilding team (especially one as starved for shooting as NOP). then there's brown, who's probably less valuable than a healthy ingram but comparable to lonzo.

between the celtics and lakers (and knicks maybe), i think the most relevant asset ranking goes:

tatum
ingram
#3 pick
#4 pick
brown
ball
memphis pick
robinson/kuzma/smart etc

TBH, I don't think NO is in such a bad spot that someone would outright refuse to play for them. Assuming they swing AD for the 4th pick and one or two of kuzma/ball/ingram, that doesn't seem like a bad frame to work with. It'd be young if nothing else.

Probably won't be the popular opinion but personally I quite like the framework of:

DSJ
Jrue
RJ Barrett
Zion
Robinson

Zion and RJ both have chemistry already and probably helps adjust to NO if you have a good friend with you. Most people won't realize it because the Knicks were bad but Mitchell Robinson was fantastic in the second half of the season, he definitely has star potential and is on a cheap deal as a late 1st. Then DSJ as the 3rd in the trade because he fits better than Knox I think

They'd be young and have a shit ton of cap space not next year but the year after. They would have 46-48m on the books for 2020/21 with DSJ's 5.6m being a team option. So they'd have enough room for 2 max contracts whilst already having a solid young core.

Tacko Fall will be a project. I think he'll get sent to the G-league for a year or two and then get used as 'Nobody else has one of these so how do you deal with it' option.

I'd love Orlando to snag him too but we're picking at 46 so who knows if he is there at that point. Someone will definitely take a flyer on him just because he will be so hard to deal with and coaches will find something for him to do in short bursts.

I kind of hope that we do a sign and trade with Willie for Mo Bamba. I know we want to go hard for vucevic though

Plus the other reason Orlando don't make a trade for WCS is it makes zero sense.

They have an all star center in Vucevic. So they either pay him and then trade for WCS and are paying 2x Centers like 35-40m a year. Or they let Vucevic walk to then trade their sophomore lotto center for a center who is worse than Vucevic.

Looking at the roster I can't see a trade that makes sense for Bamba from the Kings. The only players the Magic would want, the Kings wouldn't want to let go

I saw a Grizzlies fan propose Fournier and the Magic 1st for Mike Conley (since they are presumably getting Ja Morant). I would bite their hand off at that.

I had been trying to talking Magic fans into Fournier/Mozgov/1st or Fournier/Augustin/1st for Conley and they were all down on it because they thought the Grizzlies would get better from elsewhere. It could be that Magic fans just really overrate Conley (myself included) because we haven't had a bonafide PG since errr Jameer Nelson when he was younger

Also I have come to the conclusion that Fournier is actually good but only if he is your 3rd/4th option. Not as your primary option like we used him. Well was more like Vuc was 1a and Fournier was 1b.

It will be interesting to see how much offense goes through Aaron Gordon if we let Vuc walk.

I think a Fournier trade is less likely now than it was last season as it entirely depends on what happens with Ross. If he doesn't resign with us and we traded Fournier, we'd have virtually no backcourt. Our backcourt would be Augustin, Fultz and that's it. I assume we are bringing back one of Briscoe/MCW (possibly both).

But yeah as SG we only have Ross/Fournier. Our next option is a G-leaguer who only played 16 minutes total last season and I am pretty sure he wasn't on the roster enough for us to even have his restricted rights.

I don't know, it just rubs me the wrong way when people only support their teams when they're winning especially when they're super vocal about it. So to see a pretty successful team have their fans bail so early and in such massive numbers during a loss just looks bad to me. Like be grateful your team has been so good and made it so far.

I kinda view leaving early as the same as those fans who only turn up when the team is winning. Which is something I can level against Magic fans too. Was ridiculous to see how many people were willing to turn up late season when we were winning and how many people turned up for the playoffs acting like superfans when those fuckers were nowhere to be seen in the last 7 seasons when we were shit.

Fairweather fans just annoy me. More so the vocal ones who act like they are super fans

Why does the team being competitive matter? Only turning up and staying when your team is competitive/winning is like the very definition of being a fair-weather fan.

You realize how many Magic games I've been to over the last 7 years where we have been complete shit and not remotely competitive? That didn't matter, I still turned up and stayed until the end. I'd hazard a guess that the bulk of the Raptors fans who left early wouldn't bother turning up to games if they were a 20-30 win team instead of one of the best in the league. Hell I'd hazard a guess that quite a few of those fans only turned up because it's a play-off game.

I don't really get this to be honest. Especially late night games because like why would you stay and watch your team get pounded when you could go home and go to bed or do something else. I mean, I always stay personally but I can see why people don't and I don't think it's a big deal

I don't really mind fairweather fans in general though, as long as they aren't obnoxious when they win or act like they are a super fan.
