Honestly I would still never admit to someone I wasn't already friends with that I watch anime, and it's because of shows like Qwasar and all the siscon stuff. That's why I have a real grudge against the pervy stuff, far as I'm concerned it's holding the medium back from true mainstream appeal.

Anime may be getting way bigger but it's still hentai to all the normies out there. Can't let anyone at work know or they would look at me funny. Interpretation matters more than the truth my friends.

I realize this is a ridiculous and extreme reaction, but can't really change how I feel. Can at least say I would never give away anime no matter how much I don't want people to know about me watching it.

I dunno about where you are, but in my experience, people are super chill and don't really care. There was a time where I would hide my interest in this stuff. But nowadays? Nah. Hell, a few weeks ago I talked to one of the secretaries at college about Kill La Kill. A few semesters ago in one of my classes, we had to give speeches that were just a reading of something. I read from a VN, and I had to explain a few times what exactly a VN was. And lemme tell you, VNs can get way worse than any anime. And people stop me to compliment my Monika Keychain. I had a nice discussion about her at a McDonald's while I was waiting on fries. Peeps are chill man. Anime is getting bigger, and it has the mainstream appeal thanks to Netflix and friends really pushing it. It's big now, and it's only gonna get bigger.

I would like to say now to those who may be uninformed and look at the Shield Hero synopsis and style and say "oh more isekai bullshit for the pile to ignore" that that is certainly not the case and you should in fact be hype. Shield Hero is closer to the Re:Zero side of the spectrum.

Also it's Kinema Citrus which as of recently, between Made in Abyss and Revue Starlight, become a studio to watch as far as I'm concerned.

though Netflix and CR have been huge in pushing anime forward I think it's just a consequence of the broader awareness of availability for overseas Asians to consume this stuff, don't get me wrong, other races like anime as well but most of them aren't deep into it and just casually watch that Black Clover anime or the new Soma season

I'm a couple of episodes into part 2 of Jojo (Battle Tendency), does it maintain its level of quality? Because it's been a huge step up from part 1, which honestly wasn't that great.

Part 2 stays good. Part 3 depends on your taste. Part 4 surpasses it.

Anime-wise, I think I'd say something like 2 > 4 > 1 = 3? 1, 2, and 4 are all hugely improved by the anime (though I read 4 with crappy TLs, so maybe it's not that improved <_<). With 3 some parts are better in the anime but I didn't like the slow pacing and the final battle was much better in the manga. Pet Shop was ridiculously fucking awesome in the anime though. Maybe the greatest Jojo fight period? I loved it.

Well, my goal to watch an anime from every season wound up leading to a new entry in my top ten favorites!

Sound of the Sky was very much my kind of story. To begin with, all of the individual elements were handled well. I liked the fun characters, especially the ever-optimistic Kanata, and all of them gained real depth as they developed throughout the story. I also enjoyed the setting quite a lot with mythical hints from the past, and how it was brimming with hope even though a lot of the background elements were kind of grim. Pretty much from the moment in the first episode where Kanata fell into the water near some ruins and saw the giant fossilized skeleton of a winged... thing, I knew this anime was going to be something special. There was also the good art style/animation and all the sequences that were infused with emotion by the musical choices.

On top of all that, Sound of the Sky had that nebulous factor where it managed to pull all of its individual parts into something truly amazing for me. Quite a few episodes were a ton of fun and some others managed to hit me in the feels. Basically, it always managed to nail whatever tone it was going for. The plot reached a satisfying conclusion too. Other than one or two minor complaints that didn't really matter, I felt that this was perfect all around.

i haven't had anything break my top 10 for years

I'm still relatively new to anime but my top ten had been static for at least the last few months. Fresh junk has entered my bottom ten with depressing regularity, too. I was actually starting to worry I wasn't giving new stuff a fair shake, like maybe one of my 9/10s would've been a favorite if I'd seen it earlier. It's nice to have confirmation that there's still special stuff out there and that I'll know it when I see it.
