Yeah the more I thought about this, I realized that was kind of obviously their intention. I often write my post-series thoughts in the last few minutes before I go to sleep, and some nights I'm tired enough that it's a miracle they're even coherent! It was still neat how hard tired-me thought about it, I suppose.

Eh, I use MAL more for my own personal organization rather than to try and impact their overall scores. The way it is now, I can go in and sort by score and it matches my current personal ranking rather than having seasons all over the place. I think there are only a few that have been impacted by this anyway, and Amanchu is by far the biggest example. Like, S2 of Chuunibyo was good enough that it pulled S1 up from a 7/10 to a 9/10, but I figure a small jump like that can be justified by the greater appreciation I had for the characters after S2, which would improve S1.

Oh, I can rank them here afterwards if you want. So far they've both legitimately been 6/10 (which, again, isn't so bad in my ranking system, this is above average and roughly 1/3 of everything I see is given a 6 or 5) but Bakemonogatari was a low 6/10 while Kizumonogatari was better and lifted it up to near the border of 7/10. I'm not sure it'll ever reach 8/10 (BanG Dream is the current gatekeeper of that score and not even Hanekawa can compete with the greatness of PoPiPa's Kasumi) but it has been improving!

And to answer the question people might be thinking about, yes, I put way too much thought into my anime scores/rankings. The last few weeks where I work they've been doing noisy construction on the floor above where I sit, so mindless stuff like is what I've been wasting my time on since I couldn't focus on anything else.

VA work has an enormous impact on comedy, and I dont think I've ever seen a comedy anime in japanese with better VA delivery than Asobi. Konosuba comes close.

VA Work is important, but the content of the comedy has to be funny or even the best VAs cant make it work. Problem is comedy is very subjective and if you arent digging it you wont change your mind no matter how much you see

Like, I don't even need subs. Listening to these girls screaming and ranting is comedy gold even with no translation.

Comedy series are so hard to discuss. I havent really gotten the chance to catch up on Chio lately. I think Im only one episode behind though. Havent watched more Slow Start yet either. Might not get a chance to until Friday or Saturday really.

Finished part 2 of Jojo and it was great, A+. I have to say Joseph blew Jonathan out of the water as far as protagonists go.

Also watched the first few episodes of Bungo Stray Dogs which is looking pretty good so far.

I've finished Nisemonogatari now and... yeah, I definitely didn't like that one as much as Bake or Kizu. I still need to organize my thoughts about it, but there were a whole bunch of things that I really didn't enjoy. There were still good aspects but it felt like the stuff I disliked was by far the focus of the season.

I was actually impressed in Bakemonogatari when Araragi said something to the effect of how guys who actually have sisters don't have sister fetishes. I guess the joke was on me for actually taking that seriously because of course this entire season was devoted to sexualizing his sisters in increasingly uncomfortable ways. Where it really went over the edge was in that awful toothbrush episode. 'This is the story of my immortal little sister... right after a whole episode devoted to me making my other sister orgasm while brushing her teeth'. Yeah, no thanks. Not my thing.

Even beyond that, though, the two monster plots this season just weren't as good as anything in Bakemonogatari. They felt like just a bunch of random stuff that happened, which wasn't a feeling I'd had with the series at all until this point. There was talk earlier in the topic about Nisemonogatari not being as good as the other seasons and I really hope that's the case. I want it to go back to how it was before.

There were some good points, though! A lot of the character interactions were still great (even if the first few episodes felt a lot like they were just reintroducing the characters to make sure I remembered them). Hachikuji teaching Araragi that the word 'courage' can improve any sentence was probably my favorite part of the season. Shinobu becoming a normal person again was fun too even if it kind of undercut the whole final dilemma of Kizumonogatari. They have a neat dynamic by basically trading power back and forth as the situation dictates, and I enjoy how much she likes donuts.

Anyway, the next season is short so I'll probably watch it tomorrow.

Nisemonogatari is different than the rest of the series, but I don't think it's the worst part of the series.

Granted I really like the Karen Bee arc (and not the Tsukihi one), so eh.

Araragi riding around on Karen's shoulders was one of my favorite parts as well.

JoJo Part 5 - I hope this is good. I mean I like the other parts, but these guys are by far the worst looking ones design wise so far. I dont think any of them look cool or anything. They look more like they would be a group of jobber villains or something.

Reincarnated as a Slime - lonely loser is killed and reincarnated in another world as the ultimate weakling aka a slime. You can tell his slime life will be a million times better though because being a slime beats being a lonely old man at a dead end job.

Bloom Into You - Yuri series oh ya. Orange hair girl looks better than the other one who just looks standard/boring

Tommorow - SSSS.Gridman, Going back in time to hang out with young grandma and bunny girl puberty syndrome. What a trio

what I love about Nise is that it really pushes the envelop on what's pg13. there's obviously ecchi shows that go far an beyond personal hygiene but Nise did it in such a way that it's really only offensive if you're only ok with vanilla pg13 moe like the standard swimsuit beach or bath episodes and don't like the boundaries to be blurred and pushed

Looking at the anime chart I never realized it before, but Japan seems to really like Jeanne darc/Joan of Arc. She is in quite a few anime/manga/etc. I guess its not too surprising because shes popular in English stuff too, but shes probably the most popular non-Japanese figure featured in Japanese stuff or close to it?

I was real disappointed that that new Jeanne show is hardcore ecchi.

In terms of its execution, I wasn't offended by the toothbrush episode (give something like that to Hanekawa and I would be 100% on-board!). After this much anime I've also come to terms with the medium's weird fascination with incest, at least to a point. Now that I've thought more about it, I think Nisemonogatari as a whole just hit an uncomfortable middle ground for me. I'd be fine with the usual basic sister fanservice that a ton of other anime have, and I'd have been fine with them making it official and going 100% incest. However, Nisemonogatari pretended it was just the usual 'little sisters are so cute!' innocent fanservice situation while at the same time going way more sexual than it has with any of the other girls so far. Just my own personal tastes on the matter getting in the way, I suppose.
