Watched episode 3 of Ore. Just when I think it can't get any better, it gets better. Anime of the Year.

Beated Sword Gai S1

This wasn't bad at all. The sappy edgy backstory or anything to do with Gai was bad but the battle shounen stuff was good. Looking forward to S2. Hopefully Netflix picks up more adaptions like these.

I didn't really like any of the new characters. Felt unnecessary to add more when we barely even know anything about the main cast. Also not a huge fan of Alec. A case of tsun gone too far, on top of the show wanting to break her tsun image by giving her a goofy side which doesn't really work. The dog guy is whatever, president is ok and class rep is the only one I really like. I feel like they'll probably over play Hasegawa's secret and the rest club takes a stupidly long time to figure it out.

I was on ANN and I clicked this Best & Worst Isekai LNs and found this

This is also the worst thing about the provocatively titled Slave Harem in the Labyrinth of the Other World, which is too dull to even be offensive. It's a story where the protagonist buys girls as slaves and has sex with them, but it takes ages for any sex to happen because the protagonist spends every chapter level-grinding in a dungeon and narrates his exploits like a drone. Any sex that does happen concludes after roughly a sentence, which makes you wonder which fetish this story actually appeals to.

Literally amazing.

it was great. shogi-centric episodes weren't so good so I scored it an 8/10 instead of a 9/10. my impression is that season 2 fixes this issue? looking forward to it.

Yeah, season 2 still had some shogi episodes, but it's not as high in volume. Most of it focused on the drama.

I feel like a bunch of this show was systematically designed to make me like it less and less as time went on, to the point where I just wanted it to be over. Would have preferred season 1 to have just been the end of it, honestly. Not sure I can reccomend this show to anyone.

The Lances were used too much. They were introduced early and then always continued to be a thing throughout. When you realize they have all those Lances you know that either a) they....well, have the Lances and can't lose with them against the tech the opposing force has access to or b) they just fucking forget about them and it's a huge plothole. Either way is a writing failure.

You can't have two failed suicide attacks like that. Shino's suicide failing was a strong moment, but was weakened heavily by the fact that a crashing suicide attack had already failed before. If you have had Naze kill that fuckboy Iok in the first place successfully, it would have raised the morale in and belief in the success of such a maneuver before and make that moment with Shino all the stronger. As it stands, both failing means I can't care about either.

And as I've been bitching, the entire series is damaged by Okada refusing to allow a shocking death. All the deaths are given this huge build up to them that flags harder than just about any series I've ever seen, and it makes all of them less impactful. Absolutely no death in this series is shocking other than the teddy bear driveby, and even that was flagged, it just happened so FAST after it was flagged that it didn't sink in, literally the very next scene. While many of them are built up longer, none suffer for this worse than Orga's. What should have been the most impactful death was a wet fart because Okada was jumping up and down yelling "watch watch I'm gonna kill Orga holy shit!".

I think Okada tried to subvert/deconstruct the Gundam genre and it felt really forced. You could tell the series was going the Kill em all Tomino route as soon as the second ED started.

To this day I'm still facepalming at McGriddle's plan. Dig up an antique trashcan and think people will bend the knee to him. The plan itself wasn't dumb, but the act of subverting this trope, the legendary ancient mecha trope, felt incredibly stupid. I could understand Rustal having overwhelming power and basically unbeatable because he had a literal army, but to have the legendary Gundam only have two swords is something a mecha writer would not do. At least give the poor McGriddle a trump card that seemed like a plausible trump card. "Oh... you will not bend the knee even though I have the symbol of our organization? Well I'll just have to show you power that ended the Calamity War."

Okada gotta Okada though.
