Hero Academia can give a decent example. All Might is voiced by Christopher Sabat, who knocks it out of the park as All Might, but is in a huge chunk of Funi dubs. He was even asked in an AMA once about all the roles he's been in to which he jokingly replied that Funi won't pick up an anime if they don't have a role ready for him.

So yeah, kickass voice actor, but in everything. I just get tired of hearing the same voices after a while, you know?

Funi probably uses the same people because they are represented by the same agency or part of a union so it's easier to deal with. The voice acting industry isn't huge in the western anime market to begin with so you're going to be hearing the same voices regardless.

You hear the same popular seiyuu all the time in Japan too so it's not like this is exclusive to western anime.

I know, it's not exclusive to anywhere. But when it comes anime dubs, Funi picks up more than most of the other competition. So being a dub guy, I hear it the most with Funi.

Anime dubbing sucks because they try too hard to sound like the Japanese imo.
5 seconds into that trailer and I hear faux high pitched girl you never hear except in anime and overdramatic gruff young guy voice.

It's not what actual English voice actors sound like when you listen to anything American made.

I never have a problem with original NA stuff like Avatar or DC animated movies or Simpsons and Family Guy and Futurama.

I always cringe when I listen to an anime dub and they struggle to pronounce the names. A really popular example would be Ryuzaki from Death Note. The dub called him Re-YOU-zaki, with emphasis on the syllables that are really short in Japanese.

that's one of the things I hate about anime when they are forced to speak Engrish really quickly

That's one thing that does bother me in dubs. Using the last names like the Japanese version does. First names are the way to go.

Also when they decide to use honorifics. I hate that. Sounds so awkward.

Man, all the attempts at emotional payoff in this show feel so cheap and manufactured. Worst of all, obvious and predictable. In order for stuff to really hit in a show like this there needs to be some level of shock value, but IBO is basically Zodiac War in that it flags all its deaths well ahead of time.

I don't even dislike the show, it's just feels so unimpactful, like I'm never gonna think about it again once I'm done. Also absolutely unbelievable that I'm 40 episodes in, it doesn't feel like I've watched 40 episodes of content at all. There's so much meandering.

I haven't had as much time to watch things lately but I finished Love Lab today. I thought it was good but in the latter half it kind of lost focus. It would've been a lot better if it focused either on the gags or the quasi-romance/drama, it didn't work so well trying to half-heartedly do both.

Still, Sayo was great the whole way through. I have a lot of respect for masterful trolls like her.

I thought she was! She was great at barbed comments meant to hit people where it hurt most, which she mostly directed at Riko due to the lie. There were also a few moments in earlier episodes where she got under Eno's skin (she yelled something "random" about Maki's brother being a sponge, but Maki doesn't have a brother... Eno does, and she's sensitive about him being unemployed. That sort of thing).

That's what I dread the most when I eventually get back to MH Generations, the ****ing item drop rates. At least with MH Stories the battles don't take nearly as long, and the better you perform in each battle the better the drops. Of course, conversely, if you suck you get crap so I'm dreading the post-game.

Anyway, SG 0 looks interesting. What about P5 The Animation? Is the protag as hilarious as Yu from P4 The Animation?

No, so far P5 has been....underwhelming. Episode 1 copied and pasted from the game, episode 2 was actually notably worse than just watching the game, like an LP would be better. It's not awful, but as it stands there's really no reason to watch it. I still will just to see if stuff changes.
