I love those too, Matsumoto wasn't involved in those I think. He did Captain Harlock, Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999 and stuff like that.

The epic movie version of Harlock's origin, Arcadia of my Youth, is a great way to get into his stuff if you can find it I'd say.

I always assumed he was involved in those early Macross stuff since the art was very similar to his other works, maybe I slipped into a different timeline

For Tomino series I didn't like Gundam 79 or Zeta, and the only other one I've seen is Turn A (which was mostly pretty good, but at least 12 episodes too long.

Shoji Kawamori created every Macross.

I liked his original Gundam trilogy, 0079/Zeta/ZZ. Even though ZZ's tone was a lot lighthearted than Zeta I felt the serious parts were really good. There were a few filler episodes where nothing happens but it adds to the overall charm of it all imo.

The dumb monsters are one thing, but the designs for all the actual characters in Caligula are pretty great. I'm a fan of the floral themes.

Man, this show is pretty great, one of the better for the season. I figured it came out of nowhere, but the game must have hit pretty big in Japan to get an adaptation like this.

Kind of wishing this game came out over here.

Aww yeah Hinamatsuri with an amazing ep 2. Love that Hitomi's still a bartender in the ED. Studio feel's had some good shows since they did Snafu 2. Looks like they're doing Yuno later this year too. Should be interesting...

Also watched the first couple eps of the P5 anime. Kinda meh so far in general (I liked the P4 anime quite a bit more), but it's interesting seeing some things from early on and thinking about their role in the game's overall plot. Namely everyone's apathy. Lots of confidants showing it early on (Sojiro, Ryuji with the track stuff, Ann with her friend, Kawakami, etc.). Feel like P5 did pretty great with its themes.

I marked it as dropped. My issue is that I don't like the phoned in ecchi, and nothing's been very funny, despite them playing the comedy up pretty hard. The characters all had pretty weak introductions, too.

Ecchi was expected, but that first episode was too much. The big issue is it just sucked! Tonally all over the place.

If anybody had any interest in this show at all, just go watch the Gainax version. Sadly in stream hell like all Gainax shows.

Nothing, he just thinks they use the same people too often.

From a quality standpoint they're pretty much always aceing it.

Probably because they keep using the same people!

There isn't really a problem with them exactly. Generally, they're good voice actors. My issue comes with the fact that I hear the same people doing the same voice in pretty much everything Funi dubs. And because Funi picks up and dubs so much anime, it seems I only ever hear the same bunch of voice actors in every anime I go to watch. The same issue does come up in LA Dubs, but due to being in California, they have a much bigger talent pool to pull from, so you hear a lot more newer voices there. I mean, look at the Re:Zero cast. While a few bigger names are present, a lot of the major characters are voiced by people who only have a few voice roles under their belts.

Although the most quality dubs I've heard aren't from either. The best I've heard are the Canadian voice actors. Black Lagoon and Death Note have two of the best dubs I've ever heard, and I wish they would get more anime.

I guess I'm more ignorant of this issue because I stick to subs most of the time, I think HeroAca is the only dub I'm listening to atm

Orphen is a pretty dang old light novel series that just hasn't gotten any attention in forever. Like, the last piece of Orphen media was a PS2 launch game. I'm a huge fan of the first season of the original anime (back when JC Staff was a name to count on), and I'm very excited to see it coming back. Done right I think it'll be a big hit, and I'm pretty sure they stated this would start from the beginning. Season 2 of the anime was original, I think, and not so great. I'm extremely rusty on my Orphen knowledge.

Funi probably uses the same people because they are represented by the same agency or part of a union so it's easier to deal with. The voice acting industry isn't huge in the western anime market to begin with so you're going to be hearing the same voices regardless.

You hear the same popular seiyuu all the time in Japan too so it's not like this is exclusive to western anime.
