Anyway, I didn't actually advance the story at all in Trails the 3rd tonight. I completed Kloe's Moon Door, and Zin's Star and Sun Doors. Well, I guess I should say I completed the first part of the Sun Door, because apparently there's a True Arena that I can access once I have a certain key item. The fights here weren't too tough. They just took a while because it was a lot of enemies with a lot of HP. I enjoyed Zin's Star Door, too, largely because of Kilika (still best Guild Receptionist, even if I guess she isn't one anymore). It was pretty great to see her and Zin have some one-on-one interaction.

Kloe's Moon Door was fantastic though, partly because I love her (might be the best female Trails character; if user SaveEstelle doesn't speak up by the end of the topic, I will declare it to be the truth) and partly because I love Jenis/Mercia. Also, this Lechter dude ended up being pretty great, although Kloe says she met him again a couple years later. Either that means we met him during FC/SC under a different name, or there's another door that continues the story. I guess I'll find out one way or the other eventually!

Apparently I was supposed to talk to someone on the 9th in order to activate Kanji's social link on the 11th. Normally going back two days wouldn't be a problem, but I just spent like four hours grinding/clearing quests in the tv world

oh yeah that one's kind of annoying

I think one time I didn't trigger Kanji's S. Link until after summer break because I forgot you had to do that part first

But you can probably work around it by substituting someone else and trading days with Kanji. Does the guide list what days the S. Links are available? You can probably work something out that way.

also thought Lechter sucked in 3rd but I'm not a fan of his archetype in general (slacker who's actually super good at everything)

And yeah, I get that the Doors are probably the main attraction. The main story feels like a pretense to allow them to exist so you can have some fanservice and some closure. Trails the 3rd feels more like a giant victory lap than anything else.

Oh. That sucks. Hmm.

The way I see it you have 3 options:

1. Reload before that day and follow the guide. Like you said it'll cost you 4+ hours.

2. Do what Leon said and "trade" someone else's day for Kanji to get him back on track. This'll put someone else behind, but generally speaking I'd say it's better to have the party members on track. I'd also do this ASAP just because things can snowball a bit. I would NOT choose Hermit for this, as tempting as it may be, trust me it'll mess the guide up a ton I bet. Moon or Sun probably the best for this from what you have available?

3. Let Kanji lag behind. Basically keep following the guide but with the understanding that every time Kanji comes up you're one activity behind on him. You can *probably* make it up at the end. I say that because availability becomes a bit wonky towards the end, IIRC, but it should work out, I just can't guarantee that. The main pitfall with this plan to watch out for is that it's possible Kanji could slide a bit further back, I'm not sure. If he gains S-Link points from some other event, like say the exams posting, it's possible that it'll now happen at the "wrong" time for you and where the guide has it avoid a Spend Time session, you'll now have to do one because you have to get those points somewhere. (This can happen with Option 2 as well so be aware)

I think all of these options are viable. I'm crazy so I'd pick option 1 and be mad at myself. 2/Leon's choice is probably better than 3, but I think they'd all work out, there'd just be some extra overhead on your part to keep track of where you've deviated from the guide.

Persona 4 probably has a little more leeway to screw up once or twice than, say, Persona 3 did, where you pretty much had to do exactly what the guide said if you were going to max them all by the end of the game, so I wouldn't obsess over just doing it all over again.

Yes, you're probably right.

(If this were Persona 3 I'd say reload no question. While it's possible you could salvage it, it'd be an entire project just to figure out if you could. Persona 4 is a lot nicer.)

I don't agree with the latter half of this at least. The "main story" is also really great imo.

Though I do agree that the game should mostly be taken as a short story collection.

Heads-up that I'm just winging this, but looking at the guide I'm thinking your best bet is probably to switch in Kanji over Ai (Moon) on 6/29 or 7/6. I believe either day should work. 7/6 might be less hassle because of a flag with Moon's link but maybe keep a save at 6/29 in case I'm wrong?

Kanji will be a step behind until that point, but I don't think it'll matter. If you use either of those days he'll be back in line with the guide. Ai will fall behind instead, but you should be able to catch up at the end if nothing else. Assuming this other site I found with days available is correct, you'll have something like 4-5 days where she's available at the end where the guide gives you free time because it has already finished everything by then.

Alternatively you could switch someone else for Ai down the line but that might be something you'll only want to think about much later down the line.

Like Leon was saying, P4 is pretty lenient so don't stress over this, everything should be fine even if all of the above turns out wrong.

I'm currently attempting to just switch him with Strength on 6/15; hopefully I'll be able to find the NPC before then (Strength was available on the 11th). If it works that'll be a pretty easy fix.

In Trails the 3rd, I've been working my way through the Le Locle stuff. I'm enjoying the new aesthetics, and the music here has been some of the best in the game so far. My reward for finishing the first trial was Anelace, and I immediately went and did her Star Door thereafter. I managed to defeat Richard and got a pretty awesome sword as a result. Finding out Anelace has a pretty distinguished background and Cassius knows and is beloved by yet another important figure in the world was pretty cool.

The reward for the second trial was Schera and her new character design, which kinda reminds me a bit of Luciola's design. Then I went and did her Moon Door, where we get to have yet another new design, although I guess technically it's "old" because it's set five years in the past. It was pretty cool wandering around Grancel and talking to NPCs just to see what they were like back then. Unsurprisingly, Nial still looked like an old man five years ago, but the story of him meeting Dorothy was pretty neat.

The highlight here though was getting to learn more about Aina (second best Guild Receptionist). It was interesting getting to know what she was like back then, especially since it wasn't what I would've expected. I wish her AI was smarter in battle though, because I had to redo that last battle a few times because she kept charging right in and getting killed! It was cool to get to see Kurt own some faces, too. Although speaking of good music, it was awesome getting to hear the Trails FC regular battle theme again, as well as Attack the Assailant!

We've got one part left in the Le Locle segment, and everyone assumes our final reward will be either Estelle or Agate, if not both. Assuming we don't add any more characters to the party that we didn't get to play as at all in FC or SC, they should be the last two left. I'd assume if it's not both, it'll just be Agate and they'll continue to hold Estelle as the one they're striving to find and perhaps the Lord of Nonsense is taunting them with or something.

Schera's Moon Door is definitely pretty interesting. Seeing how Schera and Aina were back then is interesting, and of course BY MY ARTS .

The two Teddie VAs are pretty close, so not much of a difference there.

Chie is definitely a big change.

Yeah, Sam Riegel (a.k.a. Phoenix Wright so quite a shift in VAs) does a pretty good job of trying to keep the original Teddie's cadences and intonations. Chie's voice changes a lot. I can barely even remember what her original voice sounds like at this point.

Rise has the same problem as Yukiko (another of Leons faves) in that her social link rolls ack so much of her initial character development. With Yukiko, it was a total withdrawal of ambition despite her clear aptitude academically. She caves to the very pressure that she had lashed out against. With Rise, its getting back on the same treadmill that got her miserable in the first place, But this time itll be different. Right.

Dont get me wrong; even the lesser of P4s main cast are still quite good. But they are lesser.

Also idol culture is creepy af.
