In Trails the 3rd news, chapter 5 is complete! Who would've guessed that there was still one more character left on the roster (Schwarzritter seemed to confirm she was the last one, too), and that it would be Renne, of all people! Ries started climbing the rankings very quickly for calling out Renne on her bullcrap and threatening to slap her around with her Templar Sword. So this is supposed to be a better version of Renne, huh? All right then.

When we reach the end of the labyrinth, we have to fight a bunch of spiders who cause a variety of status anomalies, as well as a mother spider that can suck nearly 10,000 HP out of me to replenish her own, so that fight was rather annoying! Schwarzritter says that the next plane will be filled with trials for everyone involved, so that should be interesting. He also gives us one last sealing stone, which contains a version of Celeste Auslese, the hermit of the garden. I actually had a feeling that's who it would be because Kloe showed a very faint hint of recognition at one point when she first saw the "ghost."

Anyway, it's not the real Celeste, but a partial personality copy sent to infiltrate Phantasma, which was a higher plane created by the Aureole in its wish-granting functions, to corrupt and distract it while they tried to seal it away. We still have no idea where the Aureole disappeared to, but it does seem to be gone beyond where anyone can sense it. I'm sure it'll just play nice from now on and leave everyone alone...! Anyway, apparently, the Lord of Nonsense invading Phantasma is a recent phenomenon, and he's been creating these alternate planes.

Speaking of which, Kevin is back and says he thinks he knows who the Lord of Nonsense is. However, he wants to confirm some details before he tells us for sure, so I guess we just have to wait a little bit longer. Kevin takes the lead, and now I apparently don't even have to bring Ries along anymore! My temptation is to fall back on my Trails SC mainstays, Estelle/Joshua/Kloe, so that might be what I do. I assume we're getting fairly close to the end, since there should just be two more planes. Before that, there's a Star Door that requires Olivier and Mueller to enter, but that'll wait until tomorrow.

I did complete a Sun Door where I had to beat the famous Halle and Gambler Jack in Blackjack and poker, respectively. Managed to beat them both on the first try, too, which is nice. Thankfully, I'm pretty familiar with the rules of these card games, so it wasn't too hard to get the hang of what was going on!

They do not. I looked at the guide and "weird." I didn't see anything that could have gone wrong between ranks 6 and 7. My initial thought was that there was some story choice in there that gave Justice points and maybe you didn't have a Justice Persona for that because that's an atypical situation, but I'm not seeing one in that timeframe. Either I missed something (possible) or the guide had a mistake >_<

Uh, I guess my recommendation would be to fill it in with a Devil or Tower meeting somewhere down the line. Night time is generally much more flexible.

Trails 3: Ries/Renne's relationship is pretty neat to watch, yeah. My primary team was Kevin/Ries/Anelace/Renne with substitutions made here and there when I felt it was appropriate for the story.

Trails 3: I don't know if I gave the impression otherwise, but I was never expecting your opinion on Renne to do a 180 because of Trails 3. It might marginally improve, but I don't think she's going to change to suddenly being your favorite character or anything. I think she has better content in Trails 3, but not in a way that's likely to completely change already established opinions of the character.

But yeah I like Renne a lot. She's probably my 2nd favorite character in the franchise (behind Estelle) at this point, from the games I've played.

Yeah, but I'm talking about general success rate here. Some archetypes have been done well more often than others. Of course, on the same note, if you do an archetype well that's usually not good, that might be the most impressive thing, like Nanako being a great kid character.

Renne doesn't fit the bill on any of those though.

Started Chapter 6 in Trails the 3rd. Now we're outside of Grancel in the Erbe Scenic Route, huh. All those stone monuments that are there in real life are acting like the Doors do elsewhere in Phantasma. Looks like I need Kloe for this first one, which is convenient since she's already in my party! I've also switched to Renne's Remote Ability over Josette's because the hefty EXP boost is worth the small loss in sepith gain and item drop rate, especially now that I have the Divine Eye gem, which combines Eagle Eye, Information, Fortune, and Sepith Vein all into one, along with Scent, which is lame, but I've already discovered that Haze overrides it, so that's good.

And I got that Divine Eye quartz by doing the Olivier/Mueller Star Door, which was pretty great. The tension between Olivier and the Chancellor (pretty neat that we got to meet this guy finally) was excellent. And hey, it's Lechter again! Seems he's been a spy for the Chancellor for quite some time, even when he was a student at Jenis. I feel like this still isn't the last we've seen of him, even if it means he doesn't show up again until the Cold Steel games or something. I can see why they shifted the scene to Erebonia for Cold Steel, too. That place is rife with political intrigue from the looks of it.

Hmm...

Taking a closer look at the guide. I did find -one- thing that could have thrown you off with Justice 6 -> 7. Did you have a Justice Persona with you the day before it was supposed to reach Rank 7? There was a story event with a choice that night (7/23) where you could answer in a way to get Justice points. If you didn't, that might be the cause. If you did, I still dunno.

Proceeding under the assumption that you did/it's still a problem/you can't roll back anyway let me take a look here... Assuming you're around 7/28 then? ...Oh wow, yeah, jeez. I'm a bit wary of suggesting to use one of the reading days because those stat checks will come into play eventually. Justice may well be thrown off a bit though in the meantime. If that one schedule list I saw is correct, then Justice would be available on 9/1 which is the next Devil meeting but augh.

I did have a Justice persona then and got those points. The only thing I can think of (if the guide isn't wrong) is if Justice 6 leveled up mid meeting and there was a choice I messed up.

I think I'm just gonna hope that I can fix it on 9/1. I somehow do have a save from 7/2 (which I guess I won't save over) which was two days before Justice 6, but that's a lot more than I want to replay.

In Trails the 3rd news, I'm guessing Chapter 6 is going to take up a pretty huge chunk of time just by looking at all the monument slots it takes up on the overhead map thing. I finished Kloe's monochrome school thing. Felt like I was in Timeless River in KHII for a minute there! I figured out the trick to the place pretty quickly, although Kevin listed it in the journal as well for good measure! We had to do a couple of boss fights against the Ravens and then against Philip, which was pretty awesome. It wasn't a hard fight by any means, but it was just a cool experience, especially since he had a unique S-Craft just for this battle.

I did the Moon Door about the Mercia Orphanage children. That was kind of sweet and cute, all the while maintaining the mystery of whether what happened to Mary was a dream or reality! Then I did the Maybelle/Lila Star Door, which was pretty excellent, especially once Anelace entered the picture to play private investigator. Maybelle and Lila have always been two of the best minor NPCs, so it was cool for them to get a little episode of their own, especially since it was lighthearted most of the way through and kinda touching at the end.

Speaking of Anelace, she's the required party member for the next section, called the House of Mirrors. They said I had to bring the sword-wielding gal, and my actual first thought was Julia, but everyone was sure it was Anelace, so I figure the game isn't going to deliberately try to mislead me here! Apparently, it's the Ouroboros Lakeside Base...only mirrored. It's a little on the nose, but fine. It'll have to wait until tomorrow though!

All right, I'm finished with the last Hyouka book, although apparently there's a separate short story and some drama CDs that they've also translated, so I'll read those, too. The last story in the sixth book was, fittingly enough since we discussed this quite a bit recently, a very Yukiko-esque character arc for Chitanda, although one that's from a different perspective that veers in a different direction. Chitanda's circumstances as a wealthy and noble heiress to a longstanding household estate aren't really something any of us can relate to on a personal level (or at least I assume so). That's part of what makes her plight interesting though. We see it from Hotaro's perspective, which is a point of view most of us understand since he's just your average dude (well not entirely but you know what I mean).

Obviously I can't say too much since it'd be spoilers and I'm pretty sure no one here has read it so there'd be no point in elaborating anyway, but I was impressed with the level of sympathy and kindness Hotaro showed toward Chitanda's situation, all things considered. The books never call it love and almost seem to go out of their way to avoid presenting them in any sort of romantic situation (the anime is a little more overt in that regard but thankfully never too much so), but I've said it before about Hotaro and Chitanda: Their relationship is clearly special without having to give it some "official" designation.

The way the story ends is also left rather vague, so I guess it's left up to the reader's interpretation as to what ends up happening. I think it leans toward one outcome over the other, but both possibilities are viable, so that's neat. I certainly hope that's not where the series ends because there's still room for more to be told if the author wants to continue it. Apparently, this separate short story was written only six months ago, so I guess that means there's the chance of still more to come.

All right, I watched the second episode of the Persona 5 anime. I'm really digging this OP! ED, not so much. The aesthetics and presentation are pretty good, although not always the best. They did an All-Out Attack complete with the Joker finishing pose, but it was just a plain red background instead of his normal one. The next episode previews are designed to look like the post-battle victory screen though, so that's really cool.

Also, I think I already like the anime version of Ryuji better than the game one, although Joker actually being able to communicate with him probably helps. Joker's characterization is pretty great so far, too. He's a little more self-serious than anime Narukami was, at least so far, but he's got a sense of style and knows it, so he's not afraid to show it off.

I also finished season 9 of Frasier! Down to the last two seasons now!

In Trails the 3rd news, I finished Anelace's section. The saddest thing is that Kurt never used any BY MY ARTS during the fight with him. Getting to fight Kilika was pretty cool. Her S-Craft looked awesome, too. The fight wasn't quite as tough as the characters made it out to be though...! Next up is the Divine Blade's successor. I would've thought that was Estelle more than anyone, but the game insists it's Richard, who isn't too pleased with the moniker himself. This section is the Impregnable Fortress, a.k.a. Leiston Fortress. I expect a boss fight with Cid here at the very least. Maybe General Morgan, too, and perhaps even Cassius himself! The mention of the Divine Blade at all seems to imply he might show up, if nothing else.

I did Renne's Star Door, which was an overview of Pater-Mater's development. I was a little confused by why it wasn't listed as complete when I finished until I went back to the garden, and she summoned Pater-Mater with the power of positive thinking to be her new S-Craft. She and Ries also have another debate that Estelle has to break up, and Renne casually drops that she has three doctorates and regularly submits research papers under someone else's name. Who knew!

Then I did the Bleublanc Star Door, which was a compilation of research into his M.O. and theories as to his secret identity. I thought one theory seemed to be the most likely, and Bleublanc himself confirmed it to be so! The guy has apparently been wreaking havoc in Erebonia for a long time, so I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up again in Cold Steel in some form or fashion.

I also finally got an invitation to do the Hard Arena, which...wasn't really that hard, although it was quite the surprise for the final match to be against the Baby Dragon from the Orphanage Moon Door! Apparently, there's a Nightmare Arena, too, so I'll have to find one more invitation to unlock it.
