Houseki no kuni finished airing. It started out at 6.9 score on MAL and is now almost 8.5. I fucking love this show. The first episode is alright, but every subsequent episode is exponentially more captivating.

It's like 1 part bartender, 1 part hanasaku iroha, 1 part spirted away, and 1 part...idk some high quality yuri bait. I mean its the kind of yuri bait where the characters have clear canon attraction and feelings for each other but they just haven't gotten so far as physically expressing them much.

Also should be mentioned that there are distinctly two types of episodes. One type with a focus on the fox girls and one type with a focus on the guests. The ones with the guests are the ones that felt like bartender and are probably the best part of the series. Episode 8 in particular is really good.

Started on houseki no kuni and just finished episode 1. The cgi is interesting. I keep thinking, man this looks like a tales of game I want to play. This season really seems to be stacked with unique ideas. Will continue watching.

Hope everybody here had a quality holiday. The highlight of mine is one of those mini-Sega Genesis consoles, the one that has a cartridge slot on top so you can play your old games in addition to the ones on the machine itself. Lots to like about it: The thing is tiny, and it weighs almost nothing, so you can put it anywhere, and the library of games on there is pretty good. Down side: This particular model does not support save data, so the Phantasy Star and Shining Force titles are unplayable, and the sound quality is a little off, but the ups outweigh the downs, IMO (and there are plenty of other avenues for playing those RPGs).

Kinda pissed at where they left off since nothing is answered and its right on a cliff hanger but assuming it does get a season 2 then it's no big deal. Easily worth the watch IMO. So far this season of anime has been very good to me.

What puzzles me about the Wanaca situation at Winged Cloud is ... why only her? They have two in-house character artists, her and Inma, but only Wanaca is named in the "being held in cult-like conditions" situation. I feel like there are pieces missing to the story.

Yea, I wouldn't hold it against you getting ticked off for a soft, "go read the manga" ending. Regardless, there's plenty of cool shit that happens in the show, that I'm not too offended. Not so much a cliffhanger, but a jar of worms looming to be opened. You can't really blame them, 1-cour show has to stop somewhere. Besides, I was sold to go read the manga 1/4th through the show.

Also, I've said before that the show was incredibly popular in Japan, so there's a significant chance that it'll get another season.

It certainly is. Even after finishing it I don't really even know how I feel about it or how much I enjoyed it or not. Assuming a season 2 does come (which looks likely) all is forgiven about the ending, mostly. Also part of me hopes that sensei actually turns out to be taric from league of legends. Also I definitely would consider that a cliffhanger with where it ended. If it had ended one scene sooner or later it would have been different.

Munchkin is a pretty alright casual board game.

Codenames is a casual game that requires thinking.

You should look up Sonar Commander. It's like someone took battleship and actually thoughtfully designed it as a game. Also playable in real time, which is neat. Also a team game, suitable for 2-8 players, with everyone given a different role on a team.

It has been a good year for anime. Pretty amazing with how the market and working conditions are that so many great anime still get made. I guess it shows just how passionate and talented some of the people making anime are.

I've been playing VA-11 Hall-A, a pretty enjoyable cyberpunk bartending VN. I've only finished chapter 1 and I'm already bummed this isn't an 18+ VN considering we have plenty of lesbians/bi girls (including the player character) and they all have pretty good chemistry with each other. Still, its a unique game where your only real interaction is mixing drinks but it can be fairly hard to figure out what drink you need to make and you can choose how much alcohol to put in some of the drinks that can change outcomes.

Pretty relaxing and nice to drink to although annoying I just got the flu so I really shouldn't drink much. Had a bad enough fever yesterday I couldn't even manage to watch anime and yet now I feel practically fine which is really tempting me to drink along with this game but thats probably not wise.

I can't actually stop playing vall halla. Send help. I don't even really know how much I'm enjoying it but any time I try to stop I just keep going back and opening it up again. It's got a strangely soothing atmosphere. The abundance of yuri relationships is a probably a contributing factor as is all the alcohol. I've lost full control of myself as well and max out the alcohol every time I have the option, even when the kid came in. Must get all the cute anime girls drunk dammit.

After my second failed attempt to go to sleep I'm opening the game once more. I'm gonna blame half of this on post fever stuff but the VN really is entertaining. It's a very interesting perspective to experience a story from and the humor is to my taste. It also goes into plenty of interesting cyberpunk topics like AIs and brain uploading and nanomachines and stuff. It's a really nice mix (heh).

woops i forgot to use gamefaqs for like a week

to raise a weapon's level, just throw anything at it, but realistically you're gonna want to throw angel/archangel weapons at it

to skill level it up (would not recommend skilling up snowflake, the drop rate boost wasn't good iirc), you have to feed it other weapons with skill levels. for SSR weapons, you need to feed it 2 SR x its level. so if it's skill level 3, feed it 6 SR weapons with skill levels. you can also start feeding it SSR weapons at skill level 5, because 1 SSR weapon is ten times as effective as an SR one. if you skill up the SSR fodder to 2 beforehand, that's all you need for skill levels 6 to 10

I think I'm getting the hang of it, but I haven't tried skill leveling any weapons yet. I've just been saving + weapons and skill rares. Gonna focus on making a fire team, since I have two ssr characters in fire. Also have a fire carbuncle that I uncapped once, which seems like a mistake now, since having two of them would be better. Oh well, gotta make a few mistakes.

What's annoying me the most right now, is the twitter ap/ep, since I can't get it. I made a twitter account, tweeted the link once and it got locked after that for suspicious activity and I don't have a phone to unlock it. I sent support a mail, but I doubt they'll help.

I. DID. IT. I beat the whole game. Now I can sleep. Finally. It's only been 23 hours.

Seriously though, I really really liked this VN (VA-11 Hall-A). I managed to get the good ending by 40 freaking dollars, I cut it so close, don't buy useless junk. Theres still a few more secrets left to uncover in NG+ if I want to play through it again sometime (although realistically I'll probably just look em up). They really bring you into the whole atmosphere and world and immerse you in the life of Jill, a bartender in glitch city. The ending was also wonderful and really fitting in my opinion. I'm gonna miss this cast of characters. I even managed to refrain from maxing out the alcohol in the kids drink at the end so it was like I too grew as a person.

I have to credit this game for most accurate fake in game message board I've seen. It could easily be potd making all those posts. The VN also had some great references hidden away in the news stories and blog posts you can read every in game morning, they even had a damn seifeld reference as a main character. I might make another post about this when I wake up since I'm kinda dazed right now. Was totally worth staying up this late though.

I've caught up on my 7 months worth of One piece episodes and now must wait a few months until I watch it again which is a little sad.

As for the anime season just gone I've seen UQ Holder! which was decent but the "read the manga" style ending was pretty eh
Next was Juuni Taisen which has a really bad score on MAL but it wasn't actually that bad, was a decent watch
After that was Imouto sae Ireba Ii which was... eh, kinda trashy but okay
And now I'm watching Shoukoku no Altair which is turning into a pretty good "travelling to try and prevent war" story

Wow I slept a long time. Ok, now that I am (mostly) sane again I can probably make a final post about this and move on to other stuff.

The atmosphere of vall halla really makes the game. It does a lot to suck you in from fake news articles to fake message board posts to fake blogs to the wonderful ambient soundtrack to the consistent visual tone and writing style. The atmosphere is comfy and mature and somewhat secluded feeling, more or less like the bar itself.

The characters are at a glance pretty ridiculous but through the conversations they all end up very fleshed out and realistic. It gives a sense that crazy shit to us is the norm in this future from android sex workers to cyborg assassins to sexy super hackers to what is essentially miku 2.0 (an android idol) to whatever the hell your coworkers actually are and plenty of other colorful characters.

They chat about what to them is current issues the same way we might chat about ours but the interesting thing is their issues are mix of basically the current issues we have with politics, scumbag corporations, and constant rioting mixed with futuristic issues like an AIs concept of death and self, replication, loss of privacy, and streaming-chan. The blend of familiar and future issues all being handled and talked about in the same fashion lends a lot of weight to the issues, the world, and the characters and makes the whole thing come together.

The ending is also one of the most emotionally satisfying endings I've had in a long time, I don't want to spoil anything so I'll just leave it at that.

Now for some things that could be considered problems. There are a LOT of loose ends that never get tied up. Like, most ends don't. If the answer doesn't walk itself into the bar you probably won't get an answer. Some things are explained in character specific endings and some info is given out by the 3 secret bar patrons you can get to come by serving a secret drink at the right time (you pretty much have to look this up, the actual hint for what the drink is, is in another game entirely).

Can't really avoid spoilers for this next part so I'll just tag em. The ending, while emotionally satisfying, is also in no way conclusive to anything except Jill's guilt over her dead ex. Her life and all the people in it haven't really reached any goal and the game could just as easily have kept going forever so the ending point is kind of arbitrary. Considering the developers can't literally make the game go on forever its a decent point to stop but I could see people wishing for a little more finality to it all.

Choosing the right drink to make is nice but a few times the hints are kinda bullshit, particularly with virgilio. Aside from choosing the right drink, the act of mixing them is kinda pointless half the time. It wouldn't be so bad if you could just click the ingredients but you have to drag each one which is annoying for bigger drinks. I did figure out near the end that for the ingredients touching mixer you can just click the edge of the ingredient square and not have to drag them but that won't work with the 2 in the corners.

All in all, those complaints are very minor and this is an overall great experience. The story touches a lot of areas from comedy to tragedy to feel good sappy stuff to pretty much everything else. Would recommend to pretty much everyone. It's estimated to be about 10 hours but my file says it took me 17 so 14-15 is probably more reasonable. Kinda makes me wanna actually be a bartender and definitely makes me wanna rewatch the bartender anime.

A kind of unrelated thought but I don't know if I'm just much easier to impress lately or if I've gotten lucky enough to stumble onto a bunch of great things in a small time period but I'm really enjoying anime and VNs a whole lot more lately than I have been for the last few years.
