To put d'Arnaud in the position where he'd be least likely to have to make a play based on the situation. Both Wilmer Flores and Jose Reyes got scratched before the game, so we had to resort to putting our starting catcher out there in the infield.

You were the classiest of all acts. Thank you for being an incredible human being during your 4 years with the Mets. I am glad the Mets gave you a chance to finally go win a ring which you so badly deserve. When you think of a baseball player, a model person on and off the field, you think of Curtis Granderson. Amazing player, even more Outstanding human... Was always great with all the fans, especially kids. Will be destined for amazing things beyond baseball, but all your time in Queens was especially memorable. I cannot think of a classier or more likeable player (okay, you're tied with David Wright).

I was always impressed with the way you would treat yourself and others no matter what, always a beacon of positivity and giving back, being super involved in charity, etc.

Will always remember you being there for the playoff run in 2015, your 3 Home Runs in the World Series, and the fact that I got to see your last at bat in a Mets uniform, which was naturally, a Grand Slam.

If you had told me in April 2016 that we would win the WS guaranteed in exchange for 10 subsequent seasons of 100 losses, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

But I'd feel really disappointed if Milwaukee or St. Louis takes the division this year. Am I spoiled?

I have been waiting my entire life to see the Mets win a championship (30 years) so I like to think I have a little (meaningless) precedence over anyone who has seen their team win in my lifetime.

I would give up both Giants super bowls I've seen and would take the mets being 0-162 for the next like 20 years just to see them win 1 world series.

Unless your team does a fire sale, then it's not realistic. Your team is competitive and it should be competitive. You are in the heat of the race, you should feel the way that you do. After winning the WS, you want to make the postseason.

The larger point of considering yourself fortunate for seeing a championship, yeah, for sure.

Wigs when do you officially give up on the season? I've never experienced a Yankees season that statistically ended before mid-late September, so I am genuinely curious.

What do you mean give up? Like resign that we aren't going to make the playoffs? That was like a month ago. That is irrelevant to the current situation. I still like to watch the mets even when I know were not going to make the playoffs. I basically always watch all 162 games. At this point i like to see our players thrive and stay healthy especially the young ones. Also want to see guys like Syndergaard Familia and Wright return from injury and see what they can do for a month. I also wanted to watch conforto since he is our best player have a shot at hitting 30+ hrs and continue to thrive.

With this injury I am afraid he may be affected for life as I am with every single injury. Every major injury for the Mets lately has been much mucb worse than just an "oh he's out for a while and then he'll be back" sprt of thing. Nope. The injuries last year to Matz and Harvey look like they've ruined their entire careers and will never be the same. The same is probably true for conforto now who not only will not get a chance to play the rest of this year but will probably badly affect him for 2018 and beyond.


So back to your original question I think give up means stop watching or caring about the team for the year and in that sense I never give up as there are always a ton of things to play for. Just not the playoffs in 2017. And as always things always get worse. I will still watch in hopes that conforto can come back quickly and be unaffected instead of seeing him become one of the games best young players

Also our broadcasters are amazing and entertaining so even in a blowout where the whole team is sucking I love to listen to them. Both radio and tv.

You also tend to see something you've never seen before any tome you watch a baseball game (ESPECIALLY a mets game) so that's always a reason to watch. Even if it's a bad thing.

Obviously id do anything to see the Mets be in the playoffs again and win the WS but I can always find reason to watch. If it's to commiserate so be it.

I say all this shit about how I hate baseball and the mets and I'll be watching again tomorrow.

Oh official update on Conforto btw. It's a posterior capsule tear (in addition to the dislocated shoulder). Probably will need surgery. This fucking sucks so fucking much, why are we never allowed to have nice things? Why are we so goddamn cursed?

And like I said before this goes way beyond this season being over. This affects us very badly next year and beyond. Because there have just been so many goddamn injuries and all our players never properly fully recover from them. That was 100% apparent this year when everyone who was hurt last year got hurt again this year, or performed badly.

Next year the Mets need to:
-Hope Harvey, Syndergaard, Wheeler and Matz are all healthy and productive.
-Spend on another big pitcher anyway (Darvish or Arrieta) (they won't do this because the wilpons are cheap fucking assholes who literally steal funds from the team and MLB lets them)
-Get a 2B, 3B, and CF (can't rely on David Wright at 3b, who breaks my heart every day because the man deserves to play so much)
-Improve what was one of the worst bullpens in baseball this year.
-Improve what was one of the worst defensive infields in baseball this year.
-Hope top prospects Smith and Rosario live up to their billing.
-Stuck with d'Arnaud, can't get another catcher so hope he can be productive (and healthy).
-Now pray Conforto stays healthy and comes back on time for Opening Day 2018, and that his career isn't dampened by this injury
-Hope Cespedes can stay healthy.



Only if all those things happen the Mets have a chance to contend in 2018.

And this is all with owners who fucking hate the team and would rather save money by trading away impending FAs (as opposed to paying to get better prospects back)... and the $15 Million that was saved on the contracts of the players they traded away for either shit prospects, or in some cases, nothing, is not going to be spent in the offseason, but rather just line the Wilpons' pockets and/or pay off their Bernie Madoff debt.

Bet you didn't think you'd be better off being a fan of, say, the White Sox than the Mets at the start of the season (but to be fair, the White Sox have a lot to be happy about right now)

Yeah the umps were fucking TERRIBLE. I don't think Betances was head hunting--the dude just lost control (though if he intentionally tried to murder that guy, I have newfound respect for him).
