Hyperorb FINAL

The Hyperorb is a 3,000,000 year old sentient sphere of solid tungsten 20 meters in diameter which incases the Hyperorb's cephalic region, a brain roughly 2 meters in diameter. The Hyperorb's main sensory input is via echolocation, whereby the brain sends and receives high frequency pings. The Hyperorb is unable to hear, but can communicate with other intelligent beings through telepathy. In addition to communication the Hyperorb can also take control of a beings nervous system. Offensively the Hyperorb's main attack is to seize the enemy's muscles into paralysis and then simply roll over the enemy and crush the enemy with Hyperorb's tremendous weight. Defensively, the Hyperorb's vulnerable brain is protected by 18 meters of tungsten which is resistant to nearly all physical attacks, Is highly heat resistant, and extremely heavy.

Hyperorb Biology

Locomotion
Surrounding the brain is a network of muscular tubes which contain an unknown high density yet low viscosity fluid. The hyperorb moves by shifting the weight of the fluid around and rolling in the direction where the fluid is aggregated

Sensory
Hyperorb sends and recieves sonar pulses at a rate of 300/second and has an effective range of 3 miles, although it can not "see" around objects.

Telepathy
The hyperorb is able to send out pirate signals to another organism's nervous system though in order to do this it takes a degree of study. Each species has its own unique signal and it may take up to an hour of effort to find the appropriate signal for a species it has yet to encounter. Initially the pirate signals can only be used to cease nervous system function of a target. In order to use an organisms fine motor skills a study period of 1-6 months must be observed, depending on the complexity of the organism.

Energy
The Hyperorb absorbs solar energy as it's main form of sustenance. To charge completely it requires a period of around 50 hours of continuous light. The Hyperorb can survive without loss of function for about one week. After that time the hyperorb can survive another four weeks with diminishing mental function and locomotion ability.

Keyuri [ FINAL VERSION ]

Keyuri is the main character of a manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Katsuhisa Kigitsu which began serialization in 2015. She is referred to as the Unliving Gravekeeper, one who guides souls from this life onto the next. While her true form is incomprehensible to mortal eyes and exists only as an ectoplasmic mist that was meant to patrol the pathways between the Mortal Realm and the Dead Realm, she has since been trapped into a humanoid form and bound to the mortal plane (for undisclosed reasons). The series is primarily episodic, and focuses heavily on 'dark slice of life comedy' elements – Most chapters revolve heavily around death and primarily involve one shot characters that believe Keyuri will be able to help them with some problem, only later coming to regret as she deconstructs the intentions of their original wish. Some of the characters (the ones who survive) do end up returning in later chapters, and although each chapter is episodic in nature there is an overarching narrative structure which tells the story of a paranormal being coping with life in the human world and coming to terms with her total lack of regard for mortality.

She has the appearance of a 5 foot tall Red Riding Hood doll with dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. The eyes are painted on, however, so she is never shown to blink or actually perceive things in a normal fashion. As such, things like concealment, invisibility, and darkness do not hamper her senses at all. She cannot effectively pass as a human, as her ball joints are clearly visible, but she is typically treated like a normal girl by most people in the story (although many of the 'straight man' type comedy characters react to her outlandish appearance in an over the top fashion to stress how strange she is). She keeps two razorblades hidden inside her cloak at all times for defensive purposes, and wears a giant fish hook on her belt loop. The core inside of her doll has a tightly wound metal wire wrapped around it. She can expel the wire out of her body and attach it to the fish hook, swinging it around as a ranged melee weapon with deadly precision. Once a target is hooked, she has an easier time pelting them with her ectoplasmic attacks or closing the gap to slice them to ribbons with twin razor fighting style. When Keyuri reveals her true form to human beings it tends to drive them mad (you cannot comprehend the true form of, etc).

Her bound form has an ectoplasmic core with a hard outer shell and a strange paranormal fluid within. This core is the soul of her being, and if damaged will cause ectoplasmic fluid to leak out of her body at the joints. Like most living creatures, if she loses enough of the fluids inside of her she will “die”. It's implied that her consciousness would fade from the mortal realm, but unclear how long or if she'd be able to return. Most speculators assume that she would probably just come back eventually (although not in the middle of a conflict), and her ability to repair her own physical form means that it's very unlikely she could be killed permanently. If her doll parts are destroyed she can keep fighting (as she doesn't feel pain), but if she loses enough ectoplasmic fluid she will be unable to function.

Phantom Energy - Phantom Energy manifests in the form of green or purple blobs of energy, or a darker mist like substance. Sometimes a mix of two or all three. It can be used to make simple constructs or simply to assail foes at range or up close. Phantom Energy can only be used to attack, it cannot be used to shield. The reason for this is that if one tries to touch Phantom Energy, their attack would go right through it. For some reason, though, physical objects can be touched by Phantom Energy. Because it is a paranormal phenomena, there is no explanation given for this. She can also spread ectoplasm across an area to attract or feed spirits. She is shown to make complicated constructs at times in order to accomplish physical feats that would be impossible for a normal human (such as picking up a truck and flinging it), as well as created a giant web of phantom energy that attracts violent spirits to an area. These violent spirits tend to eat through any matter they come into contact with and appear to swarm the battlefield and move about at random, although they never directly target Keyuri. Unlike most big, flashy attacks in manga, this one is usually quite effective. In rare chapters where Keyuri feels that an antagonist has done something truly reprehensible, she will summon a web of phantom energy and allow the violent spirits to rip the area apart; usually reducing her target to nothingness as the ghosts rip their physical form to bits and feast on his or her soul.

Poltergeist Cloud - Bursts of psychokinetic energy that trigger an area and can be activated at range. Things inside the 'cloud' get shaken or thrown about by an unseen and unpredictable force. Keyuri's core is made up of a stable Poltergeist Cloud that controls her doll form by filling the doll up inside entirely. Poltergeist Clouds can be used to manipulate objects with fine precision, although it requires more focus. For this reason, it takes her about as much conscious effort to move and interact with the world as it would a normal person. Poltergeist Clouds cannot move or affect organics, but the inanimate objects that are tossed about can pelt people and damage them.

Supernatural Awareness - Her eyes are just painted on and don't actually work. Nor does she have ears. However, she is able to detect things (sights, sounds, smells, etc.) up to a radius of 500 yards around herself. Although she can perfectly detect anything within this radius, she is vulnerable to things outside this radius as she is completely unaware of them.

Her fighting style generally involves a mix of two-handed knife fighting (she is very agile and can move in unnatural ways due to being a doll – additionally, her razorblades are incredibly deadly), generating phantom energy projectiles or constructs to harass foes at any range, or targeting areas with Poltergeist Clouds to cause short bursts of chaos that distract enemies and make them more vulnerable. Summoning a giant web of Phantom Energy and attracting vengeful spirits to rip a foe to shreds is an option, but she doesn't generally use this in 'battle' chapters. Often this treatment is deserved for 'punishment' chapters where the focus is more on ethics and storytelling than combat. Additionally, she is skilled with her fishhook weapon. The spool of thread allows her to attack at a fairly long range, set up wires across a battlefield, and tangle foes or even bind them. Additionally, the fishhook can be used to stab or hook foes.

well yeah, interesting abilities are nice, but there's two kinds of interesting:

- interesting to imagine as powers.
- interesting in a fight.

using superman or flash as examples, they have a lot of interesting powers. Supes with his super strength, speed, durability, etc has resulted in some pretty interesting things. especially as you go into the realm of later Supermen where you've got like 20 different senses and powers to go in him to make a pretty interesting set. Flash meanwhile has a single power, speed, but can use it in a variety of ways to make for an interesting power.

mutants are another case with this, in fact they might be easier to understand. take guys like Magneto, power of magnetism. at a base level you'd think 'oh okay, so he's good against metal?' but as ou delve further you get an interesting powerset that includes blood manipulation, energy control, lightning, wormholes, fire, shields, etc. a huge list of powers born all out of 'magnetism' which makes sense as it's one of the big forces of the universe and there's a LOT that can be done with it.


but in a fight? well, Supes in a fight boils down to strength/speed. flash is a speed issue (and gamefaqs flash resulted from a lot of that). Magneto gets you questions of "brain blood clot y/n" -> "Shields' durability." with everything else following thereafter. it's not that any of them can't have interesting matches, but all 3 are sure to get a lot of boring ones unless you pair 'em with the right opponent. they're interesting to write about, evolve, and think, but in VS topics? they're pretty bad.

similar standard as the rest, she'll be on the wiki and all that, and eventually i'll see if she can fit anywhere to make interesting fights. but that powerset leaves me doubtful, sorry. i mean i'm assuming she's from the same universe as eveny (and probably that terrain - that is way too specific and long to not be from something) which is why those powers are like that, but that's the sort of thing that... works within its universe (how well or not, i don't know) and has trouble elsewhere.

side guilty gear character sounds like weird flavor (GG's BB Hood i take it) but if it's not there oh well. phantom energy's flesh ripping for some reason is giving me shades of Umineko there, which i suppose fits the dark comedy trope she's goin' for.

Alan Chang Boy Genius has a genius level intellect that grants him various powers, such as being incredibly smart and inventing lots of cool and rad things. He's sort of like Mr. Fantastic except smarter and not as stretchy. He probably wears glasses. Alan Chang Boy Genius mostly uses his power to stop evil doers but sometimes he just really wants some ice cream and he'll build a super robot to help him rob the ice cream story.

Alan Chang Boy Genius has the following Inventions at his disposal:

Giant Robot - A 40m tall humanoid robot that strongly resembles Gigantor. It can shoot radiation from its eyes and be piloted remotely by Alan Chang Boy Genius, although it also includes a Pilder option which is basically a hover platform that locks right into the cockpit of the giant robot. It's much safer inside here and pilots just the same either way, so if he's trying to stay out of trouble he'll hide inside of Giant Robot.

Time Displacement Belt - Alan Chang Boy Genius can shoot himself backwards through time at super speeds that shatter all temporal compasses in a 50m radius. This ability has a range of about 12,000 miles. He can only shoot himself back in time a few seconds, although the time barrier that forms around him makes for an impressive looking and super deadly attack. For all purposes, it just looks like he's surrounded by this shiny time barrier and rushes at an enemy super fast.

Science Gun - The Science Gun can be used to shoot things and transform them into other things, such as transforming a dog into a dozen roses or transforming Eveny into a dog.

Alan Chang Boy Genius has the following powers at his disposal:

Super Genius - He is smarter than you, don't even try.

Make Inventions on the Fly - He has a portable laboratory that can be activated inside of the Pilder. While Giant Robot distracts enemies and fights them, Alan Chang Boy Genius can be hard at work in his lab making an invention to destroy the stupid foe. Hah, if only they had the foresight to be born smarter than him they would stand a chance!

Super Tsun - He is mean but he really loves you.

Statue

Statue is a petrified female human who was turned into a metal statue by an evil wizard long ago, and left fully conscious. She's been a statue so long that she forgot her entire past, and just calls herself Statue. A while ago, someone cast a spell that allows her to move, but remain a statue. Because she is no longer a biological being, Statue is immune to anything that requires body parts to be affected (poison, mental attacks, etc). She appears to be a statue of a 5'8" human woman made out of gold.

Statue possesses better-than-metal endurance, and is close to unbreakable; she can tank a full-blown artillery shell without even cracking, and it would take an entire building falling on her to even chip her. She is also virtually immune to heat-based attacks - nothing less than the surface of the sun could actually melt her. Statue's "skin" is extremely radioactive, and if she wills it, will burn through any tangible substance (she turns it off for her feet to allow her to walk normally) - but this does not affect anyone not touching her. To get around this, Statue possesses the Whip of Brilliance - this whip can extend between five feet and thirty feet (at her will), is unbreakable, and if seen by a biological being, momentarily blinds them. It also strikes through any magical construct - she can use to dispel magical attacks aimed her way, or break through enemy force fields.

The Whip of Brilliance's main use is it to grab her enemies - she is extremely adept at this - and bring them to her skin to be burned into ash. Statue has no martial arts training - any touch by her is enough to kill anything, so she doesn't need it. Statue is strong enough to demolish a house with only a few punches, or tackle a ten ton animal and knock it over - very few things can avoid being dragged by her whip, and what can't avoid being dragged, she can just drag herself to it. Statue weighs several tons herself (more than even a metal statue should weigh) - if she can grab a flying enemy, it normally can't take her into the air. As a backup weapon, Statue also carries a satchel of several dozen floating magical mines - these are orbs about five inches in diameter that she can throw to anywhere in her visual range (as she is very strong) and either land or float in the air (as she wishes). When anyone except Statue gets within thirty feet of them, they explode, disintegrating anything within fifty feet except Statue (she had them specially designed). She normally uses these against enemies that she either can't reach to burn or to restrict movement for her enemies.

If Statue absolutely needs to, she can extend the radioactivity about one hundred feet in all directions, but she will only do this against an enemy too fast to hit or one she can't otherwise defeat normally - this burns away the ground and leaves a crater under her, which is obviously a problem. Statue can also set off all of the mines in her satchel at once, which will disintegrate everything within about fifteen hundred feet in all directions, but she will only do this as a last resort.

However, Statue is not extremely mobile; she can only jump about one inch off the ground and moves slightly more slowly than average humans (this does not negatively affect her whipping skills, as she can still move her arms quickly enough to whip normally).

Mr. Radmore

Mr. Radmore is a Victorian scientist who created the ultimate cigar. It instantly clouds up everything within ten miles in unbreathable, blinding smoke and cannot be moved by wind or gust and will continue to exist for hours after being lit. The average person can only survive about two minutes without air, and stays conscious for much less than that. Mr. Radmore is immune to all of the effects of the ultimate cigar - including the blinding effect, somehow. He also possesses an antique Spanish rapier which he is quite skilled with. Mr. Radmore has no other abilities.

In combat, his main strategy is to immedately light his cigar and hide, waiting for his enemy to die. If they don't die or can still attack him, he will defend himself with his swordsmanship.

Final character

Valencia Cortez (Age 20, 5'2")
Valencia was born to a brilliant (but crazy) scientist Dr. Fernadez Cortez who was working on a project to make humans immune to disease. After several tests on small animals he was ready to move to humans, but could not get approval to move forward. So he does what any father would do and tests on his (at the time 14) year daughter. It failed, not only failed, but Valencia caught every illness known to man at the time. However, because she was also taking some miracle pill to make her boobs grow bigger at the time it caused a chain reaction or sorts which started to mess up her body's molecular structure. During this time she went a little crazy and killed everyone in the lab. After she came to she fled the city, never to return. Oh, and her chest is still flat.

Because of her science based upbringing she is suspicious of magic and has a hard time grasping even the simplest terms of it. In her human form she is slightly above average in combat benchmarks. She can use weapons, but is not proficient with any of them.

Powers
Molecular Reconstruction
Valencia can change the composition of her body at will without any negative consequences to her health. She can change into an air like substance to move faster, or heavier metal to become stronger. She can change any individual part of her body she wishes. She does not have to maintain her form BUT she must return her shape (not composition) close to her original human form to change composition again. (so say she's made of some sort of air like compound and you suck her into a vacuum... she would essentially be helpless.)

Her body follows basic laws of physics so she moves slower the heavier her body is. However, she can change them at will instantly if her body has the shape of her human body, meaning she can be a lighter substance and change to a heavier one at the last moment to gain momentum.

Molecular Extension
Valencia has the ability to change the composition of objects she touches, and ones that touch her. She must maintain contact with the object for it to continue working. She can NOT change biological objects, but can change any nonliving thing instantly on touch. If she lets go of the object it reverts back to its original form. It takes her a second to accomplish this on magical objects.

Finalize Antithesis. Not gonna bother reposting it though.

Solai isn't going to get a major overhaul but I wanted to address two things:

In addition, Solai is a Snapdragon-type spellcaster, which means that her spells have no casting time or material or spoken components, but she can only use a set number before needing to rest. This is represented by six lights which orbit above her head; each spell she casts snuffs out one of the lights.

The lights here are just lights, they're not something that can really be targeted, and if they were, it wouldn't do anything. Not sure if that was clear.

Gauntlet Snap
Locks a single enemy into combat with Solai until either she or that enemy forfeits or is rendered unable to continue fighting. Any time the enemy attempts to move away from Solai (including through teleportation), Solai may teleport directly to their location no matter how far away it is. In addition, Solai and her target become unable to summon anything or call for allies, and any preexisting summons or allies become unable to harm Solai or her target.


And I wanted to check with everyone else about the last line of this spell, because the contest has a lot of summoners so it just seems like kind of a dick move. Nerf/revamp/cut entirely/leave it as is?

Nikolai Rykov

Nine-year-old boy. The only child of working-class parents living in the undercity slums. Orphaned two years ago when his parents were killed in an industrial accident. Since then, he's lived on the streets as a thief, aided by his growing psychic powers. And possibly also minor reality warping. These powers are really cool and will be even cooler when I write them sometime within the next week. I'm thinking some kind of mental manipulation. Developed in ways that make sense for a kid thief. He's not aware of his full potential, and may not even be entirely aware of his powers as he uses them right now (like, there are soldiers searching for him, he hopes that they don't find his hiding place, they leave the area without checking it out -- does he realize that he mentally manipulated them, or does he just think that he got lucky?)

Physically, he's a tad short, medium build. He's highly agile, hardy, and strong for a nine-year-old. But, y'know, nine-year-old. No formal education, probably illiterate, but he's keenly observant -- possibly with senses enhanced by his cool powers that I haven't written yet -- and street-smart.
