I will support F-Zero X, but I do want to make a few suggestions:

1. Add "The Long Distance of Murder" (replace it with either Fall Down... or Rainbow Road)
2. If you replace it with the former, that is probably a good position for it at #2
3. If you replace it with the latter, switch Mute City and Fall Down.. and either White Land or Port Town taking that alternate spot and placing Long Distance... in the newly vacated one

Well, it's now officially seven minutes after midnight, which means a brand new day for me to post my second nomination. Another one of my absolute favorite soundtracks, so here's hoping it does decently.

Nomination: Xenogears

Awakening: This seems to be the most popular battle theme that Xenogears has. It is quite good, and one of the stronger entries, I feel. This made it into a VGMC.

Emotions: One of my favorite world map themes, and apparently I’m not alone in that regard. This also showed up in a VGMC.

Flight: Nice, inspiring, action packed piece that I think gets overlooked a lot. I could see myself replacing it, but for now, it appears to work.

June Mermaid: Possibly my favorite from the entire soundtrack. This is a sorrowful yet beautiful piece. Again, not sure how Board 8 would react to it, but I decided to put it here for the moment.

Omen: A bit iffy on this one. I personally love it, but it is somewhat unorthodox compared to the others. Could definitely switch it if needed, though I hope that others see it as a good piece.

Shattering Egg of Dreams: I love all of the music from Xenogears, but this one actually does not come to mind that often. I want to say this also appeared in a VGMC though, and did decently, so it seems to have some popularity.

Small of Two Pieces ~Restored Pieces~: I know, it’s a vocal piece, and this is Board 8. I think this was, once again, in a VGMC, and it really is a pretty song. I have some hope that this will be a strong choice despite the vocals.

If anyone has any recommendations of what to change for what I suggested for Okami or Xenogears, please don't hesitate to tell me.

Gahhhhhhh this was SO damn hard, I wanted to put so much stuff in. I get the feeling this set is gonna be a potential steamroller though. There's something in it for everybody. From dat chiptuney goodness to more bombastic, magnificent pieces, it covers a ton of things. Putting Black on the Alt hurt like sacrificing a son, but we can't afford to let very untested entries to take the later spots. Stick it in Round 2 if we go to 7 songs.

Any suggestions? Songs considered and discarded because of a lack of room: Upward Movement, Explore, Showtime (Original Mix), Lifdoff, Black Rose/Green Sun. I also considered putting Descend on the last spot on the idea that, if Homestuck makes it that far, people discovering so many different songs will give it the massive pull it has on Homestuck readers and propel it over other champion contenders like Scars of Time, but that feels like a very, very big gamble. Sticking to a song that can be enjoyed on its own merits is better probably.

PS: Very interested in trying out some new songs from the library, since we know none of the ones we used are worldbeaters. This was pretty much heavily eyeballed though, so any ideas are welcome. Also, are tracks not used in the actual game allowed? If so, I think I have a better lineup prepped (Dance of Thorns for final song gogogogogogogogogo).

Megalovania is definitely not the best Homestuck song. I would hesitate to put it on this list at all. Harleboss is pretty out of place, too.

Savior of the Dreaming Dead isn't used in-comic IIRC. I like it a lot but I stuck to stuff that got used in [S] panels.

Black is there, check again.

As for Harleboss, I'm taking suggestions. I like it because it has some really strong hooks for anyone who likes chiptunes even a little, which makes it a good song to deploy early where chiptune hate isn't too important. Being based on Thunder Force will do that for you.

But yeah, Song 6 is weirdly enough the hardest one to pick here. With CC I knew from the get-go that Scars of Time would be the final song because anything else would be a disgrace. With Homestuck picking a tune that embodies it as a whole and won't be a huge flop is much harder.

Hmm...problem with Savior of the Waking World is that I have no clue where to put it in. It totally has a right to a slot...but where? Slot 1? 2? 5? It doesn't quite fit anywhere in a progression, which I think is important. The OST has to hook the listener in and then make him feel like each track is better than the last to make him vote for it. Savior of the Waking World is awesome but it feels like a downgrade if you stick it after anything post-Sburban Jungle and doesn't quite fit after Harleboss or Umbral Ultimatum.

As always, I'm open to suggestions and such, but this one I actually got some input on beforehand so I feel pretty good about it, not sure how much more in the way of optimization is around, but if anything thinks there is, I'm definitely willing to consider it.

My own personal preference list would go differently, but in terms of how it would perform in a contest, I think this is pretty good.


My general thought process in this:

The Moon-Dwelling Demon - Based on VGMC performance, this very well might be the 2nd strongest of this group, after all, it's one of the two that actually retired. I wanted to put one of this or SPHILIA down at 1 for the whole "protect against a bottom heavy entry" thing. A switch with SPHILIA is a reasonable idea if you believe Moon-Dwelling Demon is significantly stronger than SPHILIA and should hold down 5 instead, but I think it's about even in terms of usefulness.

God's Footprints - This is the one where I'm most worried about board reception, but then, nothing I could think of for this slot fared substantially better, and based on the input I got, God's Footprints might be able to stand its ground better than I had initially thought (having passed it over myself originally on that concern)

Waltz of Gears - Waltz of Gears had a solid showing in VGMC4, so it was a natural choice.

Mechanical Maze - Honestly, Waltz of Gears probably had the stronger showing of the two (Mechnical Maze was VGMC3 though, and I don't know how "seriously" you can compare across contests) but my gut feeling was Mechanical Maze would be the more well received one, but definitely another swap candidate, IMO.

EXEC_SPHILIA - My bias probably showing through a bit here, since SPHILIA is my favorite and all, but I do think it's probably Top 3 in this group, and since Moon-Dwelling Demon went to defend the first slot, SPHILIA ended up here.

The Second Tower - Not even I can deny that The Second Tower appears to be the most liked AT2 song on the board, we're talking a ToC Final Four song right here, so there's no contest whatsoever in my mind over which one song should be in a potential finals match.

Rustling Throb ~Cloche~ - I'd really like to put this in the main rotation, but the whole vocals thing has put a halt to that decision. I could be wrong though, and perhaps this could enter the main rotation somewhere.

The thing about Annul is that it's weird. And by weird, I mean really, REALLY weird. This doesn't imply it's bad, but you're targeting the average b8er with your lineup, and he doesn't like weird for the most part. If you want to keep Annul, which isn't an entirely bad idea, you definitely want to crank the weirdness up round by round by starting with easy tracks and then getting to the really strange ones, slowly going from Hiroden on Round 1 to Annul on Round 4 or 5 and closing with Tin Soldiers. If you put Annul on the first slot you're going to repulse most people instead of entrancing them. It's harsh, but that's how it goes. :-/
