But seriously, this is simple.

A) Does it have gameplay segments?
B) If it doesn't, does it allow user interactivity (sound tests and scrollbacks don't count)?

If the answer to either of those is 'Yes', that's it, it counts as a game. Whether you like it or not, it fits the professional definition.

I'm taking suggestions! CC has a ton of amazing tracks, I just picked some that immediately stood out to me. :)

(Not moving Magical Dreamers or Scars of Time though, and not slotting Fort Dragonia in. Everything else is debatable!)

I have to take more time to look at the soundtrack as a whole but immediately I can't see radical dreamers ~ without taking the jewel as not being top 7, I'd recommend it over dragon god...CC is a really hard one to narrow down to 7 tracks, almost all of it is so good

I share your opinion about it being amazing, but let's be honest: if a song has vocals it automatically takes a hit to its strength. I want CC to do its best and this means playing to Board 8's tastes, even if I personally hate them. The nominator has to act like a DJ of a station and play what will capture the listeners' ears, not what he actually likes, sadly.

I actually agree with KP, I don't consider umineko to be a game but I wasn't interested in starting a big argument, everyones opinion has been stated so it's pointless to carry on like that.

I reserve the right to step in if the songs chosen are terribad, but otherwise if you want different songs for a game, you'll need to take it up with the person who nominated the game.

Good catch on Another Guldove - I don't want to take out Home Arni unless we can find a total killer to replace it, because I designed the lineup with a progression in mind, as well as as much variation as I could muster, but that's one track that can definitely carve a spot for itself.

As for Departed Souls...that's trickier, because I feel like the Alt theme has to raise the stakes - it has to be better than anything but the final theme (or in CC's case, second-to-final and final themes) without being a major loss if it never ends up used. Departed Souls is great, but can it really pick up the slack if Dream of the Shore or Dream that Time Dreams tie? Maybe Frozen Flame could do it among the more tranquil themes. Maybe. I don't feel like Departed Souls has the punch necessary though.

So, to sum up, right now I'm thinking if Home Arni should be replaced with Another Guldove, or if the latter should take another song's place. Ideas? Might be worthwhile to move The Dream that Time Dreams to the Alt theme, move Dream of the Shore to slot 4, and put Another Guldove in Slot 3, maybe. How's that sound?

I wouldn't expect dragon god to be that strong personally, maybe you know something I don't because as shown with the vocal thing, I only pay so much attention to this board...but if it has to stay in the top 7 I definitely wouldn't use it as one of the most important slots

yeah chrono cross, first psx square game nominated and that era is ****ing stacked for them!

Man, I just noticed that Deus Ex soundtrack. We really need some Unreal Engine reps that can really stand up to the big boys in every round instead of a soundtrack with three good reps and a ton of filler. Unreal 1 or UT1 would work way better as choices.

PS: Also, somebody get some Human Revolution in here posthaste. it's the better DX soundtrack by a mile.

Hmm... At first I was skeptical of this kind of contest, but I actually think this format is pretty clever. I guess I'm in.

I am totally up for any suggestions on changing songs or re-ordering. I was pretty lost here because Board 8's anti-vocal contingent really threw a wrench into this for me. My own top 7 is probably all, or nearly-all, vocal songs. Godsibb is fairly proven, but on all the others I feel it's just risk after risk. It doesn't help that I think some potentially good choices have titles that could be considered spoilers, so I kind of avoided that because I'm not sure if we want to go there.


As for supports. Definitely support Nier at the least. One suggestion I'd make to the order there is maybe Lost Forest out for Shadowlord's Castle / Memory (or Roar), Kaine / Escape (or Salvation) or perhaps The Ultimate Weapon. I'd say Hills of Radiant Wind for one of those, but it's a bit hard to argue with VGMC5 results.

Thoughts on these:

Giving Kushinada a Ride: This one seems fairly popular. It made the VGMC and did well.

Harami Lake: This has always been one of my most loved themes, but I could be alone on that. Feedback is appreciated here.

Northern Country Kamui: May be my personal favorite wide-section theme, if that makes any sense at all. Not sure how many share that opinion, but I love it.

Shinshuu Plains: I'm open to changing this to another if it seems best. I do think it's a good location piece though.

Reset ~ Thank You Version: Honestly, I'm not all that fond of this as a stand alone. In the game, beautifully fitting. Outside, still nice, but not one of my top seven. That said, this got retired in the VGMC, so it seems like a good choice.

The Sun Rises: Obviously a popular piece, to the point it made the finals of VGMC 5. And I'm glad it is, because I really like it too.

Yamata-No-Orochi's Extermination II: Any Okami music fans, give me thoughts on this as a choice. I personally have a huge love for almost every boss theme in this game, so I'd gladly replace it with any other Extermination if it is a better choice.

Personally? I'd go The Wretched Automatons all the way on that one. That said, I'm not sure if the vocal section in it would backfire. Lost Forest doesn't have that problem, but I also don't think it peaks as high as Wretched Automatons (even ignoring I have nothing against vocals). NieR seems more resistant to the anti-vocal crowd than most other games, so I think Wretched Automatons is the way to go there, at least out of that group. Personally, I'd have kept Snow in Summer there, but that's taking a much bigger risk. The Ultimate Weapon and both Shadowlord's Castle probably are too. I think Wretched Automatons is probably the safest call there for contest strength. Alternatively, you could go Emil / Sacrfice or Kaine / Salvation there, but I don't know if you'd want to do that with Karma and Escape also there.

Right. But supporting determines seeding and qualification, so you don't want to "like" everything. Also, if you are supporting something, be explicit. Just because you discuss a game doesn't mean you have supported it.


this contest is guaranteed to be a train wreck if eds music contest is anything to go by, the people on this board love to take games with great soundtracks and proceed to nominate the worst songs from it.

We'll see. I reserve the right to step in if someone is absolutely putting a nosedive to a game. But that was also why I got in my nom for Secret of Mana first. ^_^

And I'm not sold on 'Arid Sands,' so I replaced it with Haste2's South Town suggestion. Yes, Prophecy is a consideration, but it's also really short. I'm already running short with Fond Memories already, but at least it's :47 rather than :32.

Correct. You can question the setlist choices, however, which is the only reason you'd want to nominate something yourself. Unless you completely balk at the choices given, please make suggestions to the nominator. I only want to intervene in extreme cases.

That said, please drop the "Is Umineko a game" argument. I'm intentionally avoiding commenting on umineko at the moment since I just have a short break and am trying to tidy up everything else, but I did note the objections as I'm compiling my spreadsheet. I don't personally feel that a "visual novel" classifies as a game, but it isn't the standard opinion here using Ed's tournament as the status quo. I'll make a decision on that when I get back from my second job today.

If Umineko is on the fence, I'd say it's not looking good, but I don't know much about Homestuck except it felt like the complaining against it was even worse than Umineko to me (but maybe that's just because people got bored of arguing over Umineko by now). I'd say wait and see what happens with Umineko first. If it's out, I think Homestuck is doomed.
