dunno about FFIX's standard battle theme, there's a ton of better option in that soundtrack, including the boss theme, final battle, the place I'll return to someday, crossing those hills(I know, melodies of life, best arrangement of it though), successive battles, hunters chance, terra,

no beefs with the FFVIII entry except maybe sub in the landing somewhere, that soundtrack is super hard to narrow down to 7 though

suggesting run past through the plains over remnants or under the stars

THe Landing is the new opener. Unless you're suggesting I take it *out*?

Alt: Black Mage Village -

Snubs for consideration by others: Jesters of the Moon, Hunter's Chance, Terra

YNA is ridiculously high. Swap Vamo' Alla Flamenco with it and you have a good setup.

You're Not Alone! is the most beloved song on the soundtrack, albeit a bit polarizing in some instances. Still, it's retired in VGM Contest, so it's got enough support on Board 8 to give it a top nomination.

Hmm. I snubbed Crossing Those Hills accidentally because I thought Loss of Me had fulfilled the Melodies of Life melody. Oversight and memory lapse on my part. I thought Battle 1 had a following. Was I just making that up in my head? If that's the case, I'll gladly swap it with Crossing Those Hills.

I was assuming that both Eternity and the Space Jam remix would not be allowed, otherwise it's absolutely either opening or closing the list

Yes on Space Jam Mash-up, no on Eternity. Eternity is a direct lift from Blue Dragon. Space Jam is (I guess) different enough from the original to be called a different song and not just an arrangement.

Also, by my count, double elim should only take 7 rounds. Typical DE bracket looks like this:

http://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=409919 (this would consist of half the bracket, and is 6 rounds)

That has 8 rounds in the losers bracket, and would require two more rounds to handle a field of 63 rather than 31. It's fairly similar to what I was describing, but unfortunately adding an extra round to the main bracket does not translate into simply popping on another round to the loser's bracket, though intuitively one would think so. Your link has 16 at the "base" level, but you'd be representing all of rounds 1 and 2 at that stage, which is 48. So the round 1 losers need to play in (eliminating 16) to make a field of 32. Those 32 would play in for one of the base 16 slots on your bracket.

If I want to keep everything on BracketMaster, I may have to do it that way. Sadly, there isn't an elegant way to do those initial two rounds. Too bad I can't do a custom tournament tree.

Out of curiosity, how does something like .hack//G.U. count? Do the songs from Vol 1 - Vol 3 count and "G.U." itself is basically one entry? Or are they all being counted separately? And if so, what's the rule, if any, on taking Vol 3 for instance, where technically a lot of the music from the other volumes replays in one form or another?

Sigh, can never make this easy, can we?

I said that I would allow expansions to include as part of the base game, but I don't see the volumes of .hack as being expansions. Continuations of the storyline, yes, but you can pick up with volume 2 if you want. As such, I would consider them separate entities. OTOH, I've only played volume 1, so I don't know how bad the rehashing is. Considering the only real differences between each volume is the story, (if I understand correctly,) I imagine they're probably close to identical.

However, I have to be consistent. I just answered a question on AIM about Guilty Gear X and XX, and I'm going to have to treat this the same way: if it appears in the first entry, it's property of the first entry. The later game's version needs to have a departure from the original that goes beyond "arrangement" and more into "remix" territory.

So my suggestion is that if you're going to do a .hack, do volume 1.

As for the Amplitude list (which I am thrilled you nominated and am officially supporting) Push absolutely has to be in. I'd take out either Rockstar or Synthesized (whichever you keep should go in the 3 spot, with Cool Baby moving to 2).

My top 3 are Shades Of Blue, Push, and Nitro Narcosis in that order. I like Super Spr0de as the alt. I'm not sure about Komputer Kontroller as the final. I would say any one of my top 3 should take the slot...but Shades Of Blue kinda needs to be first, and Nitro Narcosis is better in the 5. Push would work as boss though.

I like Rockstar. I actually see it as stronger than Cool Baby in terms of the sound. I love Push, but I'm worried that with everything (including the vocals) being overdriven, it might be offputting. If I put it in, I'd straight replace Synthesized. I'm not expecting Amplitude to make it to a round 5, (we'll be lucky to get to hear Nitro Narcosis where it is; otherwise that would have been my 6,) so I just want songs there to hold down the fort at that stage that aren't a total embarassment.

Shinshuu Plains and Ryoshima Plains are about equal to me. If you're not the only one who thinks Board 8 would like Ryoshima more, I totally don't mind switching. Ushiwaka's Dance is perhaps my favorite piece on the soundtrack, but I think it would get crushed in this contest. It's long and many people think it's repetitive without much standing out for it. I don't agree with that statement, but if it's the consensus, I can't change it. Dragon Palace I hadn't considered, but I'm not sure how much it stands out. I could see myself replacing Harami Lake with it, perhaps, but again, I hesitate on how well received it might be.

Uuuuuuuuugh, WHY did you nominate GGX? Guilty Gear 1 and AC+ are infinitely better. I mean, check out these tunes:

Pay particular attention to the second and third link. They just completely trash the GGX versions. In general, the GGX/XX Vanilla soundtracks are the weakest, as they were softer than GG and didn't have all the cool stuff of AC+. Sure, losing Awe of She and Still in the Dark if you go with GG sucks, but that's what AC+ is for if the original isn't up your alley. If you're gonna use GGX at least make sure to include Make Oneself. Something like this would work:

1) Make Oneself
2) No Mercy
3) Holy Orders
4) Pride and Glory
5) Still in the Dark
6) Awe of She
Alt: Liquor Bar and Drunkard

This is at least much better and doesn't have huge omissions.

Lunar was a massive flop. It got well represented because its three fans banded together and got songs in. Those songs then proceeded to make themselves into complete jokes. The perfect example is Crowded Street Corner as a...2 seed I think, facing Bloody tears. It got two votes and earned itself one of the lowest X-stat values ever.

...Probably not worth it then. I'm not sure I could construct an entry that would do well with just G.U. Vol 1. With all of them, or even just the ability to use "repeats" across the volumes, I could pull it off (although not quite as well if I had access to everything) but that's the strictest interpretation and it pretty much kills any viability the entry had in terms of the whole board. I might still give it a shot because I'd still take it over most OSTs, but it'd probably be pretty doomed.

...I'll think about it for a little.

The thing with Lunar is that its songs probably also got antivoted a bit because of the nom stuffing. Some of them made R2 and one of them might have made R3. Then again it was Year 2, so eh. I'd be kind of curious to see how it would do minus the hatred. (I'm not really a fan of most of what I've heard, but hey.)

Admittedly I did pick the absolute bottom of the barrel to support my point, but I don't think Lunar has what you need for a deep run.

it's iconic(you're overstating how much so, but I'll agree that it is), but it's aged terribly compared to most of the soundtrack and generally isn't that well liked anymore, and this board is biased against vocal songs.

it's iconic(you're overstating how much so, but I'll agree that it is), but it's aged terribly compared to most of the soundtrack and generally isn't that well liked anymore.

Strongly disagree on that. It's true that One Winged Angel has picked up haters over time, but music isn't like games and doesn't "get dated", with the exception of fads (a la disco).

I think Final Fantasy VII's soundtrack is good enough to stand on its own without One Winged Angel. It's not a bad choice, but it also isn't vital, IMO. Guess it's all up to the nominator though.

Ah. To be honest, Eternal Blue's soundtrack is probably stronger overall, but I like both. Not sure I have enough nominations to include one, but if I did, I wouldn't mind trying.

You laugh at my Celtic Guardian, until I use my Scapegoat, and then United We Stand, Mage Power, and 3 Axe Of Despairs, with Gaia Power out.
