With VGMC5 at its conclusion, I thought it time to try something a little bit different. The idea is simple, but the approach may have some curious depth to it.
This is a contest to determine the best video game soundtrack by voting on individual tracks head-to-head. A different song from the game will be used in each round. I initially intend for a field of 64, which would mean the game would need to have six songs to represent it, plus I want one alternate for tiebreakers or in case I do go to 128. (Uniikely, but you never know.)
ITT, I'm looking for nominations for games, as well as support votes to help determine seeding. A support vote is simple. Just say that you support a game that's been nominated. You can support as many games as you want, but obviously one vote of support for each game.
For a nomination, you need to propose seven songs, with YouTube links, and order matters. To illustrate why, let me give you an example:
(Sample only) Nomination: Sonic the Hedgehog (GEN) 1. Green Hill Zone - (link for GH zone) 2. Marble Zone - (link for Marble zone) 3. Spring Yard Zone - (link for SY zone) 4. Labyrinth Zone - (link for Labyrinth zone) 5. Starlight Zone - (link for Starlight zone) 6. Scrap Brain Zone - (link for Scrap Brain zone) Alt. Boss Theme - (link for Boss Theme)
This is the order of the stages in Sonic 1. If we were to use this list, in round 1, Sonic would be comparing Green Hills Zone to the first song on the other game's list. Green Hills Zone is a pretty venerable piece, so let's say for the sake of argument it wins. Likewise for Marble and Spring Yard Zone, which are decent songs. Labyrinth Zone would get used in the fourth round, though. You have to assume you'd be getting a quality opponent in round 4, and you're playing...Labyrinth Zone?? It wouldn't even be a contest. Sonic would lose ridiculously unless the other game had a weak fourth song.
Of course, depending on how strong you think your game is might determine if you want to use the best songs up front to ensure it wins the first two rounds, or save it for the end in the big final showdown.
If a song is nominated, I'm going to use the playlist that person suggests. I reserve the right to step in if the songs chosen are terribad, but otherwise if you want different songs for a game, you'll need to take it up with the person who nominated the game.
I ask that you only (initially) nominate one game per day so as not to monopolize song selections. Nominations will be open for about a week.

Can anyone explain what Alt. is supposed to be? I was arranging my list with the assumption that Alt was just the seventh song and would be the final round.

I'm not even playing favorites here (or did you notice my favorite isn't there)
The POINT here is to show people the lesser-known tracks that are still great because let's be honest here it seems like the only songs people care about are Hope/Life/DreamEndDischarger

my objections are perfectly logical, umineko isn't a video game and no one denies this, the argument why it should be allowed is literally and I quote

I finally got into Umineko and that isn't going to change my stance - it's not a game. I'm honestly baffled at the people that simply assert that it is and call everyone who denies it a troll.
Also this contest seems like it wouldn't work at all. Are you honestly expecting people to vote against their favorite OST just because one particular song they don't like comes up one round?

Would have done Radical Dreamers, Unstolen Jewel for Round 2 but I know people are stupidly anti-vocals here and I want to see one of the most powerful forces this contest could have get the tracks it can likely use to crush the competition. I also considered Prisoners of Fate, which I consider to be an absolutely heartbreaking theme, but I feel like it might depress voters too much to vote for it; Finally, the two remaining choices for the basic lineup were Fields of Time and Frozen Flame, but hell if I know where we could slot those two, awesome as they are. Similarly, FATE, God of Destiny (Battle with Fate) was a potential boss theme choice but the Time Devourer (Dragon) theme is probably better for the tiebreakers. Was also tempted to put Gale in for the first slot but I know people hate it (beats me why) so I decided against it. Opinions on this roster?
Also, if we go to seven rounds, stick Dragon God on Round 2. Scars of Time and Magical Dreamers should remain the final themes.
PS: Note to myself for later or anyone else interested in sparing a nom: Nominate Hard Corps, Streets of Rage Remake (if allowed), Sonic 3 & Knuckles (if allowed, otherwise just S&K), Ristar, FF8, Valkyrie Profile, Guilty Gear 1 or Accent Core Plus with the extra box. Time to give some lesser known soundtracks the exposure they deserve!
PPS: Holy crap, I just realized I won't be able to miss a single day of this to slot everything in, and I'll have to get people to do some of these for me. Now this is a contest I can sink my teeth into! :D
PPPS: Ohhhhhhhh, right. Question: If Umineko is allowed, I presume Homestuck is too? It has actual game portions, so in theory it should count, but it's worth checking.
