55. No Ordinary Family (2010) Action, Fantasy Mega Mana's Ranking: Not on List
That's right, a show that lasted exactly one season made it to 55. I love a good superhero show and this was one. Good enemies, solid and interesting characters, great minor characters, an interesting plot (from what we got of it in 1 season), this show was great. The cast was a great bunch of actors, the show had a good sense of humor, and it actually did a good job of dealing with the family dynamic and the superhero dynamic.
This was a show that hooked me week one and I thouroughly enjoyed the entire season. I was sad to hear it didn't get renewed, and to find out how many people didn't like it (though I honestly don't know why).
54. American Gladiators (1989-1997) Game Show, Sports? Mega Mana's Ranking: Not on list
A bunch of in shape normal people (guys and girls) take on fitness people in athletic competition. Officially it is 2 contestants competing with each other and the gladiators are just the testers, but we all know the truth. This show is about watching these guys try and take down the gladiators. Of course, people like me often cheered for the Gladiators (Except Lace, she's horrible). They were these goliaths with cool nicknames who you saw every week and had some pretty distinct personalities.
Nitro was the cocky guy that you always loved seeing lose, but he was really good. Malibu was a surfer who actually wasn't that good and I often just liked laughing when he got beat. Lace was this horrible excuse for a gladiator who often got overpowered by the contestants and was really just an embarrassment. The best part was that you could see Zap and the other really good women often felt the same. Zap was the queen of the Gladiators and was 10 kinds of awesome. Tower was one of my personal favorites and if you got him in one of the circle events you were all but guarenteed to lose. And many more.
The events were great and often really interesting. And the final two games were always fun to watch. The obstacle course race was a great way to make the final decision between contestants, and If I had a bucket list one of the top things on it would be to get a chance on the Assault course. Running from positition to position firing different nerf guns (and eventually just throwing things) while a gladiator fires tennis balls at you from a large gun. It just looked like so much fun.

#9. Boy Meets World (1993-2000) ABC, Nostalgia Choice Song:
- If I could say there were defining shows and viewing experiences for times of my life, Boy Meets World would be one of the most prevalent and longest lasting. From 1993 until 1999/2000, Boy Meets World and the TGIF line-up were must-see TV. You could not tear me away from a television after 8pm on a Friday night. The stories of Cory Matthews, his brother Eric, his best friend Shawn, the love of his life Topanga, his teacher Mr. Feeny, and the band of friends and family they went through life with were the first television characters I really cared about. I wanted to see them succeed. I wanted them to get past the fights and the break-ups and the obstacles of life. I remember feeling devastated twice: the first when Topanga had to move to Philly and the second when the show ended. I was deeply hurt that I was not going to watch them continue to grow and change and live. They were my role models.
The show was hilarious. There are two comedies still to come and Scrubs, Arrested Development, Cheers, and The Drew Carey Show definitely have a better laughs-per-episode quotient, but it does a wonderful job just delivering laughs. Nothing really lowbrow or highbrow, just straight funny. It could be Cory saying, "Underpants!"; or, "They want you to take the rolls!"; or pretty much anything Eric ever does. It's grounded and yet completely over-the-top. It's like if Happy Days & Fresh Prince were baked in a casserole with Scrubs. I'm not sure how that works, but it does.
Quick top ten minor character ranking! 10. Jennifer Love Fefferman / Lauren / Eli Williams / Nebula "Nebbie" Stop-the-War Lawrence 9. Tommy 8. Jason Marsden 7. Griffin "Griff" Hawkins (holy crap it's Adam Scott o_O) 6. Harvey "Harley" Kiner 5. Dana Pruitt 4. Stuart Minkus 3. Frankie "The Enforcer" Stecchino 2. Chet Hunter 1. Jonathan Turner
Boy Meets World still makes me laugh and feel just as much as their first run. It's terribly shaky show if you heavily analyze plot and characters and age progression, etc., but who cares? It's not a show that's framed in plot. It's about telling good stories for these characters, and they always do. There's some rawness in there, too, like the ski trip, the moving to Philly episodes, Shawn's dad, and a lot of the last two seasons, but it works. People care for these characters because they have made people laugh and care for years and when bad things happen, it feels like it's happening to someone we know and love. You watch them grow up. I'm flipping pronouns all over the place, and I don't care. The show's amazing. It's not incredibly deep, but compared to Full House and Family Matters and others of its ilk, it's profound. Lose one friend, lose all friends, lose yourself. Class dismissed.

Also, just have to point out that when it comes to "after school special" storylines nothing does it as well as Boy Meets World.
A couple college buddies and I were watching some of this show just a few weeks back and we came upon an episode about parental abuse. We just sat there silent watching the episode (this is very unusual for us) and processing it all. After it ended we started a discussion on how perfectly this "kids show" handled it. It was a very funny show, but when it's when it gets serious that I love it most.

#53 ESPN First Take (2007-____) Sports Mega Mana's Ranking: Not on List
This is a sports discussion show where they talk about a wide variety of issues. The majority (and best part) of the show takes place as a debate between Skip Bayless and a guest, with the mediator sometimes joining in.
Now this is often an unpopular opinion but I love Skip Bayless. I love how he usually takes the unpopular side of a debate and likes to go after the people ESPN usually praises. He is great at providing a different perspective. He is also very intelligent about sports and is very good at predicting things. There is actually a funny tradition on the show where Skip and the mediator will bet dinner on whether a prediction will be true.
Dana Jacobson and Jay Crawford are two of my favorite ESPN anchors, and they have great chemistry with each other and with Skip. Their Michigan/Ohio State rivalry is always fun. They sometimes have other people take over, but that isn't usually as good since most of them just get overwhelmed by Skip and can't reign him in or keep up with him in debates. Dana and Jay have no problem with him and will be the first to shut him down if they think he is out of line.
A good note for other wrestling fans, with the exception of Dana and Jay, Jonathan "The Coach" Coachman formerly of the WWE is the next best at interacting with Skip. I imagine spending years with the likes of Vince, Bischoff, Rock, Austin, Jericho, and others make Skip much less intimidating.
#52 Pardon the Interruption (2001-____) Sports Mega Mana's Ranking: Not on list
More commonly referred to as just PTI this sports talk show is basically just two guys (Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser) sitting around and talking sports, pop culture, and doing some silly little games. They are clearly friends and have great chemistry. It is Tony and Michael that make this such a great show, to the point where there has yet to be a that substitute does not cause a noticable drop in quality.
These are just two fun guys who run a fun show.

#51 Dollhouse (2009-2010) Sci-fi, Drama, Mystery Mega Mana's Ranking: 51 (I was wondering how long it would be before that happened)
The first and certainly not the last time Joss Whedon will have a show on this list. I really love his riding style and he makes some truly great characters. He and the beautiful Eliza Dushku came up with a very odd idea for a show, but they made it work. The premise was intersting, but like with the other Whedon shows it was the characters that carried it. Topher, Adell, Victor and Sierra, Alpha, Bennet, Whiskey, Ballard, Boyd, these characters were the reason you watched. Topher especially was amazing. As with all Whedon shows this had a great mix of action, drama, and humor.
Season 1 was lackluster and just didn't really live up to the high Joss Whedon expectations. Until the post-apocalyptic finale "Epitaph One". The fans who stuck around through the season were treated to a truly intriguing episode set in the future showing where the show was going and leaving us all wanting more. Season 2 gave us more. It was a definitive step up in quality and really was a great season. Let's put it this way, Season 1 wouldn't even be on this top 100, season 2 got it up to #51. There were great twists, shocking turns, good character development, an interesting season arc, and even better episode plots. Season two made me truly wish we could have gotten the whole version of the show that Joss had envisioned. But sadly, Season 1 dug a whole it couldn't get out of and it was doomed to stop at 2. Luckily the finale three episodes were amazing and we were once again treated to a brilliant finale set in the future that left us with a satisfying conclusion.
Oh, and I would be ashamed if I didn't include mention that Enver Gjokaj (Victor) is one of the most incredible actors on TV and the fact that he doesn't have his own show is a true tradgedy. This also reminds me that I should mention how insane the names of the cast were in this show. Eliza Dusku, Enver, Fran Kranz (a guy), Tahmoh Penikett, Dichen Lachman, it's just nuts.

I actually felt as though the first few episodes of the second season went back down to the level of much of the first. The last eight or nine were very much quality television though.
I remember there was an episode guest-starring Jamie Bamber of Battlestar Galactica fame (lots of BSG actors on Dollhouse, including of course Tahmoh Penikett) and I was so excited to see him but just could not stop facepalming at the plot. It was quite cliche.
But that's just me and the show got so much better toward the end!

#8. Firefly (2002) FOX, Drama Choice Song: - I tried writing this up this weekend, but every time I got started, I spent the next two hours watching Firefly panels at cons. I have yet to see one that made me laugh less than five times. And now I'm watching Dragoncon 2010 again.
Firefly would probably be Whedon's best work if it had been treated well. There are a lot of shows that get cancelled early that people like to blame the networks for, but I think FOX deserves all the vitriol it gets. Pilot aired last, episodes aired out of order, timeslot jumped around, pre-empted for sports and movies, little advertising. Yeah, we got a movie, but we could have had a second season.
Firefly is a family drama set in space. And it's awesome. Captain Mal is fantastic. Zoe, Wash, Inara, Shepherd, Jaaaaaaayne, Simon, River, Kaylee are crazy good characters. I dunno. I just burned myself out watching Fillion and Baccarin interrupt Tudyk's 2007 thing plus about twenty other vids. Yay Youtube.
Firefly's awesome. It's low only because it's short.

- Community is streets ahead. It's the highest ranking traditional comedy on the list, the highest NBC show (CBS finished at #15 with Survivor), and the newest show to make the top twenty. There are so many amazing things about Community that it would be impossible to describe the ways and reasons I love the show. The group dynamic, all the genre episodes, all the regular episodes, the characters, the dialogue, the callbacks, the foreshadowings, the sub-plots, the sub-sub-plots, the unaired episodes, the guest stars, the recurring characters, the character focus, the outrageous random things that always happen, the pranks, the epilogues, the comedy, the action, the paintball, the puppy parades, everything about this show is incredible! They somehow managed to make a zombie apocalypse storyline actually work within the show's setting and remain legitimately canon. I enjoy working plots and seeing how things are all assembled as time goes on and that what was there before still applies when you see a more finished product. It's a lot of fun. Not all shows require it to be excellent; just look at Boy Meets World where Cory and Eric were like one year apart by the end when he was like six years older when they started out (Cory and all his friends did skip like three grades of high school to be fair). But Annie's Boobs, Pierce's story, Abed delivering that baby, the City College rivalry, Human Beings. The show's insane with references to itself and to everything and it's just a font of random trivia.
Community is alot like Firefly, in some ways. A group of strangers linked together by circumstances, all there for different reasons but similar goals. The vessel isn't the best ship in the 'verse, but it will get you where you're going be it the next job or a new life or just away from where you were before. They're a group of all ages, shapes, and creeds, all with different personalities and interests. But in their close-quarters sanctuary, they're a family. They listen to and support each other, they're always there to help out, they'll go on dangerous missions or simple treks together. Sure, they might groan a bit at first, but then they'll pop back up guns ablaze because they don't leave a man behind. They're a Community.
Pop POP!

"Oh my God MWIS. I just really want to ask, if this is a SMALL CYOA.... what in the name of holy blue christ is a big one?!" - ExTha
Two years ago, my friend was pushing another friend through his favorite show Supernatural. My first episode was in the middle of Season 3, and I had a huge laughing fit when the first villain, hell first non-Winchester character, I see on the show is Harmony Kendall. Well, it's Mercedes McNab playing an evil vampire, but still! They had no idea why I got the giggles and I tried to explain, but they were clueless having never seen Buffy. It was a good episode, though I was taken quite aback by how much blood and gore and violence the show depicted. I wasn't used to that (still not in some cases) and it was just very raw. I didn't think I could get into it further, but I heard new episodes were still airing and I thought I should try it out. My friend warned me that the next episode was a "meta-episode" or filler. "The show's got great drama and story, but there are a lot of episodes where the story doesn't go anywhere and it's a lot of humor." He also said something about a Trickster episode and grimaced a bit. Like The Trickster sucks.
The first clip I presented is the first three minutes of my first brand-spankin-new episode and it was the greatest television episode of 2009. Okay, I would pay $10 to see House's two-hour Season 6 opening,"Broken," in theaters, and Friday Night Lights', "The Son," is a heartbreaker with some of the finest acting ever and "Tomorrow Blues" an excellent second series finale, Scrubs' "My Finale" was crazy good, ER's, "And In The End" was a beautiful cap on fifteen years of excellence... but they're all huge drama pieces, and mostly openings/finales ("The Son" wasn't). It was the best comedic episode of 2009.
"Changing Channels" in Season 5 of Supernatural was the best entry I've ever had into any show since Lost's pilot episode. It was like if Community, Quantum Leap, Monty Python, and Scrubs had a love child with the movie "Stay Tuned" then added a heaping dose of, I don't know what, but that ending. This is still my favorite episode of Supernatural. And that's a good thing.
Thanks to reruns on TNT, I mostly caught up with the show. I still haven't seen most of Seasons 1-3, but I'm cool wit that because... eh, they're not amazing. There's a lot of great episodes in there, and holy crap the story arcs and finales and supporting characters introduced and used are incredible, but they have even worse episodes than some other demon-hunting shows. If you thought "Beer Bad" and "Doublemeat Palace" were bad, you haven't seen "Bugs" and "Route 666."
For the most part, it's high quality character development, action, comedy, mystery, lore, and long plot. There are Sam and Dean Winchester, the two main characters throughout the run. There's no big ensemble, but there are a good few supporting and recurring characters throughout. John Winchester, Bobby, Castiel, Rufus, Crowley, Ruby, Ellen, Ash, Jo, Henrickson, Chuck (who's really more of a Morgan). The plots are excellent and the ramp-ups (and finishes) to the finales are high calibre. "Carry On My Wayward Son" will be tied to this show forever in the minds of any who've watched.
The show's just incredible. When it's low, it's really low, but its many highs are top-tier entertainment and storytelling on network television.

Let's see, what are some lists I've got. Best couple? Best villain? Best vehicle? Best family?
Interesting tidbit on SN. It was originally planned as a 5 season show with the main arcs all planned out. Those arcs were completed as expected at the end of season 5. The main actors had signed contracts through season seven because that is what the network wanted and Kripke assured them it wouldn't matter since the show would end after season 5. Oops.

Both Jensen and Padalecki (sp?) have made it clear they will not be signing on for any more seasons. Pretty sure Misha has said the same thing (who btw has an amazing twitter account).
So unless they decide to continue the show with entirely new characters it will finally be over.

#50 Stargate Atlantis (2004-2009) Sci-fi Mega Mana's Ranking: Not Ranked (yet?)
The first spinoff of Stargate SG-1, this show had a lot of similarities in style and tone to the original. A good cast of characters and a very good villain race really helped it out as well. Rodney was an awesome character, though he got a bit over the top as the series went on, and the rest of the tech crew (and Beckett) often stole the show. Ronon was actually awesome though not quite as cool as Teal'c. The whole main team was very good, though I was sad when Ford left the show.
Atlantis just couldn't ever get the kind of great episodes that SG-1 pulled off, and the larger cast just never had the amazing chemstry of the SG-1 crew. It also had a tendency for some down right silly plotlines. Overall it was a very good and enjoyable show, but it just couldn't become great and I never got as into it as I would have expected.
Oh, and the show had Jewel Staite for awhile, which is always a plus.
#49 Dark Angel (2000-2002) Sci-fi, Action Mega Mana's Ranking: Not Ranked
Speaking of shows that get a boost for an attractive actress. Dark Angel stared the gorgeous Jessica Alba as a genetically altered runaway tryign to live her life and eventually take down the people that made her. This show had very good action and also some very good comedy, helped by the comedic abilities of cast members like Alba, NCIS' Michael Weatherly, and Jensen Ackles.
An attractive and skilled cast, good actions scenes, good dialogue, interesting plotlines. What's not to love?
#48 Full metal Panic! (2002, 2003, 2005) Anime Mega Mana's Ranking: Not Ranked
Yes I am counting Fumoffu and The Second Raid all in one. Its the same show but with a different name for each season (I hate when animes do this). Though I suppose I probably shouldn't include Fumoffu, but its my list so whatever.
I'm not typically one for mech shows, but FMP! properly puts the focus on the characters and the plot with the Mechs being just another weapon. That's the way I like it. This is another show with a good mix of action and comedy (If you haven't noticed, that is a big deal for me). Really though this show is carried by three characters, the hilarious playboy Kurz Weber, the rough, tough, and often crude Melissa Mao, and the pure soldier Sosuke Sagara. Mostly this show is carried by Sosuke, who is a truly great character and a fun twist on the normal Shonen protagonist.

Good write-up. Apart from Sir Chris, probably SovietOmega and myself I sometimes wonder if anyone else on B8 watched this show. I agree on all points, mostly.
Somewhat of a controversial opinion here (and I know these things: I was a long-standing veteran of the big Stargate fansite 'GateWorld' until relatively recently when the franchise just went so downhill I stopped caring) but the first season is definitely the best. It's actually more serialized than most SG-1 seasons -- and SG-1 got respectable about serialization in the mid-to-late years. It has a very identifiable (and impressive) opener and a big, big multi-part finisher with some cool twists along the way.
Show went really downhill after that and its series finale wasn't even meant to be one. It was meant to be the final regular-length episode, mind you, and it did OK to that end. But like SG-1's "Unending", "Enemy at the Gate" was intended to lead into the first of potentially several made-for-TV specials. And it's very, very apparent.
And it's never going to happen. D:

Honorable mentions to the third season for being fairly consistently entertaining aside from the Lucius episodes which were abyssmal and also having the full cast (sans Ford, augh) together still... and the fourth season for having a fairly exciting arc to it and being generally consistent as well.
Getting rid of Weir is actually what prompted me to stop considering myself a real 'fan' of the show though. I continued watching because the wit was enough to spark my relative interest but I really, really liked Weir -- mainly because Torri Higginson's acting sold her for me and I love to see women in positions of decent authority in television. It burned me badly.

I love the actor who plays Woolsey (from his days playing Doctor on Voyager), but the character was a downgrade. And Sam taking over was an even worse idea.
Season's 1 and 3 are my favorites. The whole plotline later with Michael and the baby just really didn't mesh with me.

Sam taking over wouldn't have bothered me if it didn't mean Torri Higginson left but for a couple of increasingly-convoluted guest roles afterward. (And hell, she even turned down the offer to appear in the fifth-season episode she was slated for because she was too busy and wanted to see her character receive a better semblance of genuine closure and the writers were like 'lol no, just come here.') Robert Picardo as Woolsey was a good fit and I loved him in SG-1 too. But yeah, The Doctor is superior.
But seriously, say what you will about Voyager; The Doctor is superior in general.
The Michael!Baby thing was pretty stupid.

But Seasons 1-3 don't have Cas! Cell phones, burgers, Twitter, orgies!
Misha is hilarious, but as often as not Cas is a buzzkill. And by the time he shows up the fun brotherly relationship which was the source of 90% of the best comedy (the other 10% being Trickster and Crowley) has basically been ruined.
