#50 Stargate Atlantis (2004-2009)
Sci-fi
Mega Mana's Ranking: Not Ranked (yet?)

The first spinoff of Stargate SG-1, this show had a lot of similarities in style and tone to the original. A good cast of characters and a very good villain race really helped it out as well. Rodney was an awesome character, though he got a bit over the top as the series went on, and the rest of the tech crew (and Beckett) often stole the show. Ronon was actually awesome though not quite as cool as Teal'c. The whole main team was very good, though I was sad when Ford left the show.

Atlantis just couldn't ever get the kind of great episodes that SG-1 pulled off, and the larger cast just never had the amazing chemstry of the SG-1 crew. It also had a tendency for some down right silly plotlines. Overall it was a very good and enjoyable show, but it just couldn't become great and I never got as into it as I would have expected.

Oh, and the show had Jewel Staite for awhile, which is always a plus.

Good write-up. Apart from Sir Chris, probably SovietOmega and myself I sometimes wonder if anyone else on B8 watched this show. I agree on all points, mostly.

Somewhat of a controversial opinion here (and I know these things: I was a long-standing veteran of the big Stargate fansite 'GateWorld' until relatively recently when the franchise just went so downhill I stopped caring) but the first season is definitely the best. It's actually more serialized than most SG-1 seasons -- and SG-1 got respectable about serialization in the mid-to-late years. It has a very identifiable (and impressive) opener and a big, big multi-part finisher with some cool twists along the way.

Show went really downhill after that and its series finale wasn't even meant to be one. It was meant to be the final regular-length episode, mind you, and it did OK to that end. But like SG-1's "Unending", "Enemy at the Gate" was intended to lead into the first of potentially several made-for-TV specials. And it's very, very apparent.

And it's never going to happen. D:
