Two months is too long, there is no reason she shouldn't be able to rent a room somewhere or figure something out after a few weeks. Anything more then 2 weeks is asking too much in my opinion, unless she is a REALLY good friend (I'd say of both of you since your living together).

It's not cool making you feel unable to be comfortable in your own home.

If she does stay there, you could restrict the times she is in your home (to after 8pm or something), so you can at least relax etc during the day when your not working or something.

Seriously though, forget about a hotel, I'm sure you guys could just help her rent a room somewhere for a few months (most places rent rooms for as little as $400 a month). If she can't afford it, I'd say that $400 a month is worth your privacy instead of having someone else in your house that you don't know. I'd pay that in a second.

TopicCan you date someone you aren't psychically attracted to?

Funny because psychic attraction is like the most important thing to me. Physical is still important, but I've been psychically attracted to only a few people in my life, and only 2 of them where female.

I can be psychially attracted to a guy and not be phsycially attracted to them (my best friend when I was in my 20's, I enjoyed doing just about anything with him.

My wife was like that as well, I enjoyed doing just about anything with her.

It's hard for me to even think about dating someone that isn't like that but I have a few times in the past, and have considered it a bunch more (Even recently).

Honestly though, being attracted to someone, or enjoying their company enough that almost anything you do with them is fun/enjoyable etc, is the most important thing to me by far. I don't find guys physically attractive, but I would rather "date" a guy that I had that connection with over a girl I didn't.

It's super rare (at least for me) to find anyone like that though, I have lucked out a few times in my life though, so far.

TopicAmerican workers pay twice as much in taxes as the rich
wolfy42

Those that make about $1000-$1300 a month net, actually pay the least taxes.

Individual deduction drops that by 7k (so say they are making $1300), and you get taxed only 10% on the first 9k or so after that.

So total taxes (not including SS etc) would only be about $900 total for the year (or about 5% of your total income).

The people making between 40k and 200k, usually get taxed the most as far as percentage of total income, and often as far as total amount taxed as well.

I do admit that my friends who make over 200k complaining about having to pay so much in taxes is annoying (complaining when you like your job and bring home after taxes well over $100k...seems wrong to me), but the truth is that many people making many times as much per year, actually pay less total in taxes because of loopholes, reinvesting (which in theory you'll pay taxes on eventually) etc.

Personally think we need to shift the burden a bit more to be honest, and ensure that everyone making over 100k pays a full set amount (30% or so), that you can't loop hole out of. This would allow a larger individual deduction for everyone and reduce the burdeon on those who are just barely getting by. This is WAY better then just raising minimum wage which causes way too many problems.

If you can net a good 24k a year without paying much in taxes at all (first 14k gone from your deduction and next 10k at only 10%), that would actually help those getting paid minimum wage and working a 40 hour week more then boosting the minimum wage, and it would keep prices lower as well.

TopicYou use a time machine, and go back in time several thousand years
wolfy42

#10
Actually, considering the possible ways to build a time machine, many would not have this problem, as it reverses the universe around a specific point (including the movement through the universe/galaxy of that point). The only significant difference is the items within the machine are in stasis (so do not change at all while the rest of the universe reverses all actions for X amount of time/actions.

If you just suddenly moved through time backwards, you would explode right away when the atoms of whatever is in the time machine collide with other mater/energy in it's path at super fast speeds.

Instead, you just basically reverse the math of the universe, and every action that happened in the entire universe (or possibly within a specific field), happens in reverse order.

If it's in a field, then that field would still move forward through time, andonly the items inside the field would reverse (so you would not move at all in space/time, but the items inside the field would grow younger, or move through time in reverse. This could allow someone to become young again for instance.

If you reverse the entire universe except those things within stasis fields, you could travel back through time in effect, but unless you are in space away from any planets affects, your object would still remain within it's field and not move (at least until you went back far enough for that planet to no longer exist).

Now, if you traveled through time by leaving this universe all together, and moving backwards in time in another universe before returning, then you would be out in the middle of space etc. That being said, you could actually calculate where everything would be at any set time, and if you could move through both time and space in the other universe, you could figure out where in this universe you need to return in order to actually be both when and where you want.

All comes down to how much information you have, and how you are traveling through time.

That is the TLDR version.

Deal. For 10 billion dollars you can just rent hotel rooms for the rest of your life. Even at a hundred a night for sixty years thats not even 1% of your money.

I'd bump that to at least 200 tbh

I mean don't get me wrong, I'm okay with the occasional $100 hotel since I only make $55k a year, but I think I'd be willing to shell out a bit more for a nicer hotel - $100 doesn't really inspire too much confidence

I've only been in expensive hotels on my parents dime so I wasn't actually sure how much they cost. I tend to stay in cheap motels for $40-$60 a night when I'm paying for it myself so I just doubled it.

$300 min a night I'd say. Which is only about $9k a month or about 100k a year.

Your interest would easily pay for that.

Honestly if you wanted you could have a home set to your specifications built ahead of time every month, and just move from one to another, then sell them off (for a profit) after your done with them. Would let you have some form of consistency for you and your family.

Even if you have kids you could easily afford to pay to have all his classmates move with you (the children of your staff, chefs, maids, butlers etc) as well.

When your talking about multiple billions pretty much anything is possible.

Average breathrate (inhale + exhale) = ~5 seconds
920751060 / 5 = ~184150212 breaths

I seem to inhale/exhale once every 2 seconds on average myself. 5 seconds is a freaking long time per breathe. Now if your running or exerting yourself you will actually inhale/exhale almost every second, but if your sleeping etc, it might be a bit more then every 2 seconds. I just made the average one per 2 seconds though, so 30 per minute. Drastically changes the number in my calculation though.

First, you can trade timeshares, so even if you can't return to one, you can trade it for a different location every year after that.

With 10 bill though, you wouldn't need to worry about it, just buy a time share, then sell it off (you hire someone to do that obviously), and get the next one, and have them all lined up ahead of time (a good year in advance).

You can't own a home, but what about a cruise ship? You could use a commercial one initially till you have your own (much smaller) one built just for you. Large enough for you to live VERY comfortably, and have room for say up to 100 friends to stay with you as needed. Fully crewed with chefs, maids etc, and able to sale from port to port forever.

You could build that easily for under 1 bill.

No real downside here, you have enough money to more then make up for it, and honestly with that much money, why would you stay any one place?

Yeah, I don't think the Ick factor is worth it. I read some reviews/discussions and supposedly there is game breaking bugs as well at least for some players on the pc.

The sale lasts for awhile though, so I'll keep an eye out, but even though I love rail shooters/light gun games, I think this is going to have to be a pass.

I get that there is an audience for that kind of game, but not exactly sure why they have to make a rail shooter that at least appears to have real gameplay, based around sexual content.

Oh well, I may still get it, but I'm passing for now.

Some gov. jobs require you to show proof you can type 40wpm or more.

I asked some friend who work for the gov. about this, cause I figured everyone types at least 40wpm, but it turns out that quite a few long term gov. employees do not, which is why they implemented the test requirements.

So when you apply for a position, you have to go to one of a few specific websites that test your speed, and include proof in your application.

I did a quick one and hit 105wpm the first time I took it, and just used that for my apps. I could easily practice a bit (tests are always different, and take time to get used to), but I figure 105 is probably enough if they are looking for 40wpm+.

I used to play some online game that had people race to type stuff etc, there where some crazy fast typers on there though. I type faster then I can talk, and I didn't always win when going against them. I'd say there are certainly quite a few people typing 120+ out there now adays.

Pervosity aside, it looks like a freaking great light gun/on rails shooter game. I'm not sure if I can get it to work with a light gun on the PC (tried to find info on that without much success, supposedly you can play it with the playstation move though), but even using keyboard/mouse looks cool.

It looks like a semi-rpg shooter, like a very perverted elemental gearbolt (not as good, and no levels like in elemental gearbolt or the awesome combo system, but still cool).

Not looking forward to explaining to all my friends why i'm playing that though, wish the trailer didn't look so.....creepy, but whatever.

Anyway have the game and like it/hate it etc?

WTH?

I mean steam just had a sale for The Surge, Shines: The lightning kingdom and Tyranny, all good games.

I seriously am struggling with the urge to get Gal Gun which is on sale 75% off because I hear it can be played as a light gun shooter (which I love), but it's seriously creep level pervert game content and I have female friends on steam (heck even male friends might judge me for that).

I'm waiting for Slime rancher to go on sale again. Sadly it's not multiplayer, but a friend of mine has it and loves it (she bought it during the last sale), so I'm waiting for a sale before getting it as well.

Biggest problem I have with Steam is I can't keep up with all the games I want to play that are actually decent. We just spent hours playing The Forest yesterday for instance (until we finally both drowned in an underground lake), so we are going to take a break on that one.

Then we jumped in and played Terraria for a ton of hours (3 of us), until like 2 am lol, so even old games are still taking time away from new ones I just bought.

Meanwhile on my own, when not playing with others, I'm slowly running through The Surge, which is quite decent for a Dark Souls clone like game (just wish there was a bit more customizability in stats etc).

Games are not dead, many gamers have lost their ability to enjoy games due to extreme burnout and way to many games to choose from. Causes gamers to not finish games because a new shiny comes along, and that eventually leads to apathy at even playing games since you don't finish them.

That is totally different then there being no good games though. I hoard games still, because in the distant past (now), we used to go through long periods without anything to play (especially summers). I would pull out my old might and magic games, or eventually diablo 2 etc, and play them for months due to no other choices.

Now? I could freaking game 18 hours a day for 30 years and STILL not finish the games I already own, let alone new games that come out. Games are not dead, they just became tribbles and have multiplied into infinity at this point.

They are great for light gun games.

You can buy light guns that work with modern tvs, but they are expensive and a pain to set up, and I have no clue if they are as accurate (have not tried one).

CRT's though could let you play elemental gearbolt and combo through the whole games, even from one stage to another. The level of accuracy and skill on that game that was possible is insane (Way better then arcade games even).

IF you can get as good accuracy with the new guns for hd tvs....then yeah, it's only like 60-100$ a gun, and so the only real advantage CRTVs had is mostly gone at that point (although $200 for 2 lightguns is kinda steep, you can probably buy a very nice large CRTV for that price now).

My last CRTV was a bit over 500 and huge, but it was a freaking pain to move and after doing so twice, we finally left it behind. I wish I hadn't though, I really really should have brought it with us, but oh well.

Yeah, the Wii was a let down, I even have a light gun conversion kit thingy for it, but never bothered using it.

Still, if we can do FPS MMO's there isn't really anything keeping us from doing Light Gun MMO's, and actually nothing keeping them from expanding traditional Light gun games to include huge number of players all shooting at their screens in a huge party (30+ people taking on a boss for instance with light guns).

Would just be another way of allowing input, and in theory people could use keyboard/mouse instead (but you would probably be faster with a light gun).

I think it could be a total blast honestly, and it would be (comparably) easy to make and get going. Something like an ungraded/expanded Phantasy Star Online, only light gun based.

We need one.

Seriously, light gun games are still played all the time, even though you have to set up old systems to play them (may be the #1 reason for doing so at this point). It's a blast at parties etc, and making an MMO based on them would be freaking awesome.

You can get light guns that work with PCs or HDTVs (they are $60-$100, but I'm willing to bet a light gun MMO could be bundled with one for $100 total or less sign up fee).

VR versions would be even better, and the new MMO could be build with VR compatibility, but the initial cost to enter/play with a light gun could be far cheaper if you don't require the VR headset.

This needs to be done. I'm too old, I hate java, and I just don't have the motivation to build it myself, so, if you code, know game designers etc, get them working on this.

I got maybe 10 years left, I want this before I die please.

In the end, essentially paying people to just stay home and bother nobody, when those people are not productive and unlikely to ever be productive, makes society slightly better for everyone else. It would certainly be much cheaper than incarceration, which currently serves that purpose.

True, and it might actually create a job market where employees have some power again, which would be freaking nice.

Even highly specialized jobs often have many people trying for each job. It would be really nice to have a demand for employees again, and force employeers to have to woo them.

I'm not sure on the whole EBT thing really, I think $500 is enough for anyone to easily live off including food.

I'm totally down with making sure kids get food, but I think the $500 a month would be more then enough to ensure every US citizen would not starve, and could even eat fairly healthy, even if they where homeless.

Honestly it would be enough for someone to easily rent a room in a cheap place to live, and still eat 3 meals a day AND have some money left over.

$1000 though, unless we actually hit a point where most menial jobs are automated, would be too much. You can live comfortably on that, and there are too many people who would just do exactly that.

Still need incentive to work, especially for gamers.

Give gamers the option of living in a tiny room with a TV and games, and eating really cheap food, but playing games 24/7 and nothing else (other then hanging with friends etc), or working to live in a better place, and my experience is a very very large number of them will live in that tiny room.

Paying every adult $1000 a month adds up to $3 trillion a year. The current entire federal budget is about $3.8 trillion.

$1k a month seems a bit too much to be honest, don't want to make it easy/comfortable for people to not work at all, but also want to prevent people from commiting crimes so they don't starve etc.

$500 seems like a better number to me.

Also by making changes to how taxes are collected (flat tax), and reducing costs on thinks like prisons, while also taxing drugs etc (instead of spending tons on trying to prevent their use), you could make up for a ton of that.

Since that $500 is actually going to be spent anyway (and taxed when spent in many cases) AND that $500 would count as income (so if the flat tax was 40%....anyone making more then their personal deduction would only net $300 a month, and then pay taxes on things they buy with that) you might even see an over all surplus in the budget when everything is said and done.

Meanwhile $500 is enough for anyone to live on, not comfortably, but homeless would no longer be able to go around begging for cash (They get $500...more then enough to take care of themselves). No more food stamps etc either (thought I would say still provide free meals for kids, and expand that to 3 times a day (even during summer) since it's literally like 39 cents per meal cost.

Largest bonus of the $500 would go to those working minimum wage or close, who barely make enough to get by, the mentally ill, homeless people for whatever reason etc. It would also probably drastically reduce crime (especially in combo with drug laws changing).

Net result would probably be very positive, but only one way to find out.

Without a min wage, min wage becomes (eventually) what you need to make in order to get the bare requirements to stay alive (food/water...in it's cheapest form). It might take awhile to get there, and all jobs won't end up at that level, but that is how you start down that road.

Min wage keeps even the amount you have to pay people under the table up, without it, you could end up paying people $1-2$ and hour in many areas quite easily.

Not even gonna bothering listing places where this is already the case outside of our country.

Lmao, do they realize those $15 an hour jobs won't go to them?

There will be plenty of more experienced burger flippers applying.

They want to unionize, which would make firing them without cause impossible. Of course these chains are so damn large they might just shut down locations entirely, like Walmart does when a union pops in. But fast food chains are often franchised, so it's really the local owner that gets fucked over, not the corporation.

But nobody cares about business owners.

As someone who wants to start a business in the next two years, I care very much about business owners. This is why I was so behind trump. Take big government out of the work force (and so many other places) and let them balance themselves out. No one is going to work for anything less than they can live off of. Right now tho these companies can just point to the arbitrary number and say "oh well" Minimum wage needs to be completely removed.

Except people are working for less then they can live off, and finding ways to survive all over the place right now....other people are commiting crimes because that seems like a better idea then slave labor etc.

Considering so many work under the min wage (and under the table) already, getting rid of it would just make things even worse.

No min wage would be insane right now, but would actually probably speed up a process that has been happening for awhile, and people would get fed up and force real change to happen much faster.

The solutions being called for are not great (just bumping min wage to $15), but the need for change is real, something has to happen as the current setup does not allow many us citizens any path towards security and happiness.

You can't unionize a job that they are already ready to replace, it's just not cost efficient yet. All it would do is push Mc D's etc to speed up the process of automating their chains, with just maybe 1 actual human employee there at a time to deal with machines breaking down etc.

Even if they paid that 1 employee twice what current ones make, it would be a great long term profit for them.

Except mechanics make waaaay more than $22, except you don't have pure mechanics, it would also heavily require electronics, which need a completely different skillset to actually fix it.

You would not have mechanics or engineers there all the time, you would have someone there who monitored the equipment, and knew basic maintenance, which is already a job for many other companies and often does not pay much more then min wage in that area.

You call on the experts as needed, and pay them only for the time they are there fixing the problem, and it hopefully doesn't happen often.

More then likely the employee who monitored everything would make a bit more then a store manager currently does.

Also would allow pretty much every Mc D's (and other such places) to be run 24/7, and would work FAR better with the other changes happening (Many places now deliver more fast food chains like Mc D's (Mine does for $5 for instance), and you can order online etc. Way more efficient to do that all automated at this from a single spot (less stores).

If more people start getting fast food delivered, I'm sure there will be less stores already (so less employees) and that will make converting to automated even more cost effective.

She should have just plain out said no political shirts allowed in her classroom, and it probably would be ok (and not kicked them out that time, just let them know the future rule).

Politics should not enter the classroom at all, and if a teacher makes a stand on that, universally, I don't think most people would object.

Kicking a student out though without foreknowledge that it's not allowed, is not ok. Taking a specific stance and saying that a shirt is not allowed because of your political beliefs is also not ok

That is at least my opinion, but, before taking any action, I would probably talk to the principle first, otherwise your just asking for trouble.

When two people working full time jobs can't support a household, it is time to raise wages.

when two unskilled laborers have 50 fucking kids when they couldnt affor the first one, its time to let them starve

not the kids of course. give them 3 square meals and a few uniforms at school, but the parents can fucking rot. we owe them nothing.

I'm down with you and not supporting the parents, but taking care of the kids. 100% agree.

That being said TEACHERS in some areas are unable to pay to rent a 1 bedroom apartment with their child (or children), and I'm not talking about tons of kids, just 1 or 2).

This one Art teacher, where I used to live had to rent a room because the starting teacher salary for the first 5 years in our district was $30,500 per year (no raises till after 5 years). Rent for a 1 bedroom in the area was $1500 minimum (it's near SJ California) and Insurance for her and her son was expensive (don't remember the exact amount but it was over $300).

Now, yes, that was only 1 parent, and in aperfect world there would be 2, but you would be amazed at how many single parents there are out there.

Now that has nothing to do with Min wage (although 30k a year if you factor in 40 hours a week isn't that much more then min wage...and no, you can't just do another job during the 2 months of summer vacation you have ongoing education etc, that takes up a good 2-3 weeks of that). Net after taxes, for a teacher in that area was about 2k, with $1500 just for rent, it's not feasible to live on that (especially with a child).

If it works for them, that's fine.
I don't see why people are pissed, other people make money too? HOW DARE THEY.

because when they artificially inflate the country's currency, EVERYONES money is worth less you dummy

Basically doubling min wage would devalue what everyone earns, including those on set incomes, living off 401k's etc. The elderly couple who currently have $1200 coming in per month total, would suddenly get far less from that $1200 basically, and it would be much harder for them to live.

No simple solution here, but there are solutions that could work, it's just not likely they would ever actually be implemented (no profit for the wealthy in it).
