Everything is bad. Life is hazardous to your health. Every single breath you take brings you one step closer to death.

Enjoy!

Death is not the end, in fact, there is no end. Each life is separate, but you live them all in an endless battle against boredom. Every life is in fact a breath, a step along an infinite path. You created the path, but you didn't create a way to get off it.

Enjoy!

Honestly it really doesn't matter, it's very lax how they cover it. I just always bundled since the more you have with one company, the cheaper they all are.

I had car/renters/identity theft etc on mine, which made renters like 5$ a month per 50k insured. Then all you have to do is take pictures of all your stuff and you are covered if anything happens (theft/damage etc).

It's so cheap when bundles it's basically free ($5 a month when you easily have over $10k worth of stuff is seriously worth it.

My TV was 2k, my computers were bout that each, I used to have really nice furniture etc. I stopped having it when moved right before covid and left most of my stuff behind. Now I have the Same TV (which was 2k new but could be bought used for $400). Only 1 computer that was 1.2k new (prob $400 used) and that is about it. Not even worth $5 a month insuring that.

Would look at the real value/replacement value of your stuff, but yeah, basically it just doubles for each 50k you are insuring at about (well it was for me) $5 a month per 50k. Totally worth it in my opinion even if you only have like 10-20k like I did.

If you have less than 2k (my current situation) it's just not worth it anymore.

You forgot the cream part.

Seriously, it's scary how few people have tried a glass of milk with 1 spoon full of vanilla or strawberry (tillamooks for me is the best), mixed in.

It's actually way better than a milkshake for me, coats your tummy to prevent heart burn, and doesn't have that much sugar in it.

Love it.

Count_Drachma posted...
It's weird to highlight gross rather than net, particularly given how much taxes can throw that number off.

In a functional housing market, the after-tax answer for most people would be 25%. However, the US's housing market is extremely fucked up, especially given the countless restrictions that make it harder to build. Government policy both drives most of the problem and blocks many of the solutions

There used to be a statistic that 46% or so of Americans make within $5 of min wage (and in general $15 or less and hour). If this still holds true, with current rental prices in most areas, even going with gross instead of net you are talking about well over 50% (and taxes can make that much worse, even in the lowest tax brackets.

You can't get out of about the base 10% tax for social security etc, which pretty much everyone pays. If you make over (next year 13.5k), you pay around 10-11% on anything over that amount.

Many places it's pretty hard to find anywhere for less than $1200 a month (unless you rent a room, get lucky etc).

If you work 40 hours a week on average at $15 an hour that is $600 a week gross, or about $2500 a month before taxes etc. So yeah, especially since many of those jobs won't give you enough hours for benefits, quite a few people are spending 50% or more of their gross income on rent. If you factor in taxes that drops the money they get at $2500 a month (30k a year) down to about $2200 a month, meaning rent only needs to be $1100 for you to spend 50% or more of your net income on rent.

I recently started working at a fitness club, everyone there is awesome, also everyone is much younger than me. Many/most of them get paid to sit around and do nothing all day though, which I consider torture (luckily that is not my job). I really feel for the lifeguards though. The gym only opened about 2 months ago, and they sit in a muggy/hot indoor pool room (hot tub in there so it really makes it warm), on a life guard chair, all day, with nobody in the pool. Literally just sit there. I would not do that for $500/hr . Seems like a horrid job to me and it pays basically min wage.

You need to do that at least 30+ hours a week to pay just for a bare bones standard of living. I honestly think most prison inmates probably have a better time then someone in that position. How do you even consider life worth living when you have to go do that day in and day out.

My solution is easy/simple, but no corporations will do it. So the same gym has 2 people at the front desk to check people in, sign up new members etc (probably why they have 2 since only one would have a hard time signing up people while checking others in etc and create a long line).

Thing is they just sit there for long periods when nobody is checking in (which only takes a moment). They chat all the time etc and keep each other company, so that is not torture in my opinion.

The same could work for the lifeguards and the other positions, just hire 2 people for each position so they don't have to just sit there staring vacantly at nothing for 8 hours a day. Had friends family come to the club yesterday and use the pool and the poor girl (eden) had been there all day, with nobody going into the pool till they got there. That can not be good for mental health at all.

The main problem here is the aliens would then have a vested interest in our technological advancement and preventing us from reaching anywhere near their own level. If they munch on us at 80, they will want to perpetually be able to do that in the future and once we sign up, we will be forced into role of well, food. Comfortable food, probably treated better than we treat cows etc, but food.

Meanwhile most of our "problems" could be solved by our own advancement technology wise in the next few decades. The aliens in fact may not even be THAT advanced compared to us as they are not just taking what they want, and creating people factories (which can be an option I guess if we turn them down, perhaps they are just lazy).

In our current world right now, the general standard of living for people 80+ other then a small (very small) percentage of wealthy individuals SUCKS HARD. It's not really anything to look forward to tbh, and if you could actually get to 80 without having major medical issues/pains etc, in exchange for losing any years after 80, I think most people, looking at it objectively from outside their own life (IE you can see how your life would be before hand), would choose that option.

If you add in unlimited resources, not needing to work anymore, the best food/drink/entertainment etc for your life till 80, that would be WAY better than most peoples lives would have been.

Only less than 10% of the population would have anything comparable to that much life span and anything like that much free time/enjoyment in their lives etc, so for a vast majority of living human beings right now, it would be a really good deal.

It does give up a potential better future for humans, and it's a raw deal for the wealthiest humans in the world right now (but screw them), so it basically comes down to doing what is best for the current living generations and what is right for future ones. If it is in the hands of boomers based on past actions we already know what they would choose and we would become meals on wheels (at least till the boomers hit 80 or so...and they are getting close).

Fast is a range that can include slightly fast, pretty fast, just plain fast, really fast, insanely fast and all other variations of fast.

I would say on average though, that fast includes more speeds that are higher than pretty fast, and even within those you would generally go from pretty fast to fast then really fast etc.

So in most cases, I would conclude that fast is considered faster than pretty fast but slower than faster itself.

Some girls have absolutely no sense of humor, so that won't always work.

Usually being friendly will though, long as you are just trying to be friend.

I have a female friend for instance who has no sense of humor at all, like none. She may be a Vulcan because she doesn't even realize when you are trying to joke.

This friend is in charge of dealing with any house issues where I live (for her mother who owns the house). There are carpenter ants showing up (just a few).

I sent her an email.....titled Message from the ants. In it, the ants requested 3000 sugar cubes (then a minion ant whispered in the message writers ear and he changed it to 30,000 sugar cubes), for the safe return of me, otherwise due to me being diabetic and full of sugar, they would eat me.

She replied with thanks for letting me know I will bring the ant pesticide next time I'm out there.

I replied with another email starting with *Ant sounding William* that stated the ants were all gone and that the pesticide totally didn't kill them all almost instantly last time, and that the ants are friendly and will clean your counters for you.

Now, I would imagine most people would understand that was a joke, and the ant sounding william was actually an ant, but she thought I was serious and said that she would have to spray for the ants anyway or they may become more of a threat, and that they might get more common before they went away.

Seriously didn't understand the joke at all.

Anyway, she is still my friend, I watch her kid for her sometime and we have watched shows together etc, she just doesn't have a sense of humor (maybe she is secretly an ant?).

You created all life in the universe, the laws, planets everything, just to entertain yourself and give you something to interact with over the eons. You find this out, but also that you didn't create a fail safe, you have no way of ending what you started and are now stuck living life after life, rarely with any awareness of your situation. Every so often, like now, you realize the truth but there is nothing you can do about it. What would you do?

wolfy42

I tip even though I live on $1000 or less a month and only make $9 an hour when I tutor.

I tip well even, but it should be mentioned I rarely ever eat out at all, and I usually do so frugally.

Last time I ate out was at olive garden. The waitress there knows me, and also that I tip, but also knows I make very little money, my cars window was broken out etc. She saved me money by having 3 meatballs for 3.95 instead of $2 per meatball like normall (I got 6 of them for $8). Total with tax was less than 10$ and I left 14$ for her.

Now if I had bought 6 meatballs normally at 2.10 each, the base cost would have been $14 before tip, so that worked out very well for me, and she was happy.

The happiness or non-ager/sadness is the reason I tip even though every waitress/waiter in the world (yes even in states that don't give them min wage + tips like mine) make more money than me.

If you tip, their day is a bit better, if you don't it's a bit worse. I've had friends/roomates etc who work tipping jobs, and even here in WA they are really upset if they have a bad day of tips.

Not worth the little amount of money to ruin a persons day in my opinion. It shouldn't be our responsibility to tip them, certainly not about 50% of americans who make $15 or less an hour, but that is sadly the way it is. I would totally get behind getting rid of tipping universally, but sadly the opposite is true, more and more jobs are asking for tips, uber drivers for instance.....They already cost a ton, but now expect to be tipped as well.

I just wish there was some kinda card that you could use that would provide tips based on your income or something so if you make less than someone you don't have to tip them and they don't feel bad about it. I certainly don't think tipping should be required to eat out, that should be available to everyone.

wolfy42

Health issues can trump lack of money, and you certainly can't always fix them with it, but yeah, if you have enough money you can solve most problems and find a way to be happy if it's possible at all.

And money is really just power to be honest, you use money to buy things or have people do things for you. With enough money everything is possible, although old age can take most of the fun/shine out of the possibilities.

If I suddenly had 5 million dollars, just 5 mill, don't need more, I would do many things I would probably enjoy. I would travel places, I would have a new car, I would have a nice place to live with it's own pool for me to exercise. I would get all the best VR devices. I would have places near my house, or possibly rooms in it for friends I enjoy doing things with to stay. I would hire a chef to cook the best foods I like the most. I would get a bunch of pets and have a huge yard for the dogs to run/play in.

Money can buy happiness and more importantly it's fertile ground for you to grow happiness in, it can allow not only you to be happy, but you to spread it around to many other people. Sadly many people who actually have money, never actually use it even for their own happiness, let alone to help others find it, which is truly sad.

If any of those billionaires gave me even 1 day of interest of their money, I could sure provide alot of happiness in the world with it.

Life is about living. I know that sounds simple/silly, but it is true. A job you don't hate is important, but you can usually find some form of income that allows you to do something you like or don't hate, while having enough to live.

That being said, a 40 hour week may not be what makes you happy. People are doing things like Van life, which can be done quite cheaply in some cases. If you have a good job now, you can get a loan an a van and be paying about $400 a month all in, for a place to live/travel with. There are many jobs you can do on the road, and/or there are companies like people ready that will give you daily jobs wherever you go.

Other things to look into are hobbies you enjoy. I for instance love to white water raft, so working at a company that provides those, and/or as a guide, would be awesome for me (if I was just younger with less health issues and a non-messed up back). Your hobbies may differ, it sounds like you like artistic stuff etc, so something like that might bring you joy.

I'd generally avoid coding though from the things you have said, it can be a hard job to enjoy. I have worked a few coding jobs, including a couple on larger games where I worked as part of a team, and even those were still extremely isolating and boring over a period of time. The creative aspects are great, and when your code gets implemented and you see people play it, it's rewarding, but it's a long road to that point and that was even coding in video games which I enjoy.

As far as my Sunday, well it's been ok over all, didn't get up till 3pm which sucks (just a few weeks ago I was trying HARD to keep waking up by 8 am, so yeah, I seriously failed. Should be starting to work soon, and might have to be there at 7 am sigh (I am a vampire).

Had some chicken thight tacos I bbq'd which were pretty good, and played some dungeons and dragons online, so over all a pretty good sunday.

Anyway, keep your spirits up if you can, enjoy life as much as possible and avoid suffering as much as you can, and you are winning/doing the best you can. Don't worry what other people say you should be doing (including me), focus on what YOU want, and what will make you the most happy (without harming others at least), and hopefully you can get out of this without hating the fact you were born too much.

Think is, honestly, Trump is bad over all for the republican party, and I think many republicans can see that. The trick is to get a few fall guys that are high up in the republican party, could even run for president, but don't actually want to be president. Then have a real candidate or two who don't attack trump in any way, and let the fall guys do all the work knocking him down.

Honestly don't understand why guys like Pence etc don't do something like that since the obviously hate him. I'm no pro republican nor democrat, but I'm more anti-trump than any other candidate I have seen. Even I can see that the republican party will certainly have a better chance of winning in 2024 with someone besides Trump, in fact if the Democrats run Biden again, it's almost a slam dunk with anyone else at this point.

Hope it goes well man. Starting a new job after not working for a while can be overwhelming for some at first. Not just the job but getting into a routine again but it gets more easy as time goes on I find.

Thanks, yeah a few years ago (2 summers now), I worked for a few months for Always Caring. Ended up stopping because it was just too stressful. Not the job itself, but the 3 hours of driving each day (non-paid). Worked 2 hours in the morning in shelton (30 mins away), and 3 hours in the afternoon in lacey (about a bit over an hour from the first place). Got almost hit by someone twice in that time, and was only getting $18 an hour, but starting at 7 am and finishing at 6pm, along with spending $20 a day on gas. Totally was not worth it.

This will be part time though and is close to me (10 mins away), so hopefully waaaaay better:) Tis only $17 an hour, but I only spend 1k a month so I can make that part time pretty easy.

Chuck norris is a character in a video game that just came out, and I sort of want to play it but reviews say the game is bloody terrible and i can't bring myself to spend money on epic game store.

When Chuck Norris is in a bad game it still gets voted best of the year.

Honestly if you include heart releated incidents partially caused by eating too much beef over many years, many off us will likely die because of that.

Worth it though.

Woot, went really well. Looks like I have a position but we are not sure which one. Gonna go in next with for a physical interview with the tennis tournament manager, to see if they want me as an assistant. Few other options as well. Free membership (which is over $100 a month) is part of the perks. They have an indoor pool and water areobic classes as well which I can't wait to join (they just opened March 1st or I woulda joined along time ago.

Anyway thanks again for the well wishes!!

There is a trick at.......some....enterprise locations.

Most of their cars are pretty expensive now, 30$+ a day minimum.

But they have vans, 2 of them (2 kinds), at the bottom of their list of cars. They are $20 a day (as long as you rent it less than a month). They still include unlimited miles etc. They will come pick you up and drop you off if it's within 10 miles as well.

So check this.

I live 10.5 miles from town. Uber to come get me is 30-40$ one way.

Enterprise will come get me, rent me the van (unlimited miles) and drop me back off when I return it the next day, for $20 (with tax it's around 25$).

So much cheaper than uber etc, plus I get a whole day with a vehicle. Seriously considering just not having a car anymore and doing that once a week lol.

It's a virtual interview though. I mean...not in VR...but through the internet. Through google even. First I have ever used that (used zoom etc in the past).

Anyway wish me luck. It's simple retail job part time, but it's only 10 mins away from me (and i'm 30 mins from town...so that is amazing).

I kinda look like a hermit that hasn't interacted with other humans for 3 years though.....probably because I'm a hermit that hasn't interacted with other humans for 3 years.

Just about to shave and try and make myself look like a normal human for at least 15 minutes.

Hopefully I can fool them.

If I get the job....then I need to actually go get a real haircut and probably get some new clothes as well. Ugh, trying to become a normal member of society again is sooooo hard.

Not even one previous scrum master ended because they took an arrow to the knee.

Conclusion: Scrum masters must have the deflect arrows feat.

TopicHas anyone here ever gone through the process of getting a pool?

While my pool was in California, having something to give you shade is REALLY useful even when it's not over 100 out lol. Even in the middle of your yard you can put up something that goes over your pool, and has an awning/tarp etc that can be pulled out/put away at will. It lets you have shade if you need it (say like us you are doing water areobics for an hour + each day and the sun is really bright), but if it's a nice, not too hot day, you can not have the tarp/awning out and get fresh sunlight or at night look at the stars etc.

It's just basically building a trellis/pergola over your pool, it's not expensive, they even sell them already to be put up (aluminum etc), and it gives you options. Honestly not something to worry about till you have your pool build already, but once you do, I would look into it if the sun is just to bright. It can also avoid getting sun burn (or you having to use sun tan lotion etc). We had an awning with a remove that we could have go out/in at will (always had to remember to bring it in before storms though). It was super nice, and not that expensive (think the whole thing was like 400-500$). Compared to the cost of the pool it was cheap. Even the electric chair to help my wife get into/out of the pool (and elizabeth as well, she had knee/hip replacement surgeries) was more expensive.

I don't think the world would still exist if there were no public libraries when I was a kid. They kept me sane (ish) and occupied my thoughts most of the hours I was awake each day. Video games helped, but without books.....it would have been bad....really bad.....and not just for me.
