My favorite character is Cecil.

Starts off as a Dark Knight using HP for leet damage. Resolves self and thanks to mystical moon energy and daddy's love is able to class change into a paladin only after specifically not attacking his former self. Then his hair turns white/purple and he gains the ability to use his HP for leet protection.

The first 3 are. 4 kinda for a few bosses. 5 onward is better paced; the random battles aren't too frequent and they provide enough gold/exp that you rarely if ever need to seek out extra randoms.

Not exactly, but world 1 is relatively easy anyways. There's a significant chunk of players who tweak the rules to their preference. It's not like the purists are gatekeepers; they just stick to their own thing.

Just understand it makes the game easier because byblos wasn't designed with ninjas being a possibility (e.g.), and the early access to JP makes you hit mastery faster for "endgame" skills like dual wield or X-fight.

Numbers meaning each Crystal

1/2/3/4 is the traditional way, yeah. Until 2/3/4 are unlocked everyone can be the class rolled from wind crystal. It's not character specific, but after all the jobs are unlocked you need to have one of each job at all times. So once everyone's a master you can shift around to get better secondaries or passives or something.

Otherwise (like with GBA/SNES emulator) you can just randomly get 4 random job classes from all 4 crystals, unlock from the beginning, and just roll with it.

Blue Mage / Mystic Knight / Bard / Samurai

blue magic is amazing; 2mp vampire is amazing self healing, goblin punch is full back row funsies. Ice Rod was the only way I was able to beat Liquid Flame.

This has given me new respect for bards; random battles are usually confusion song + regen. That'll probably change once I finally master Samurai and rock that multi-OHKO ability.

About to hop into the Forest of Mu. Worst fight to date was probably Archavis. I lack any "power" class (Knight, Ninja, Archer, etc) so my damage output is only so-so, but since everyone has blue secondary my sustain is amazing.

Thriller's video is a goddamn masterpiece. The dance alone is iconic and easily mimicable which helps it reach "meme" status even back then and it tells a nifty if cliche story.

In a vacuum, no, not really.

I go on them either annually or biannually, but do so with a large group of friends I've been in contact with since college. A lot of us have moved or coupled up and are generally way less social than we were a decade+ ago, but we book a cruise together and use it as a chance to come together, catch up, and hang out.

It's a floating hotel with fun enough amenities and all you can eat (ie, prepaid) food. We've tried some group outings where we were stuck cooking and cleaning for ourselves and it just cut way too much into the social time and less than half of us actually contributed to the domestic duties. A cruise covers that part for us.

Going alone or just with one friend... you'll get bored on day 3, probably. Leverage excursions while on land as best you can.

Chiming in for Shadows of Valencia.

Permadeath is togglable, but it also features a rewind mechanic. RNG is relatively preset, so no immediate turn back and pray for a more favorable outcome. Still, if you realize you overextended yourself or something you can dial it back one or several turns and just try again from ~66% through the map instead of restarting the entire goddamn map all over again.

tbh you need to reverse engineer that number. BMR/TDEE calculators and smart watches are ballpark at best.

You know how many calories you eat per day and you know how much you weigh (get a bathroom scale, imo). If your weight isn't really changing, you're either eating too much or moving too less. There's always a little bit of fluctuation because of sodium/carb intake plus hydration level and poop/pee, so to minimize that noise I suggest doing it at the same time (like... first thing in the morning, post pee).

Run with the estimates a bit, see how your weight changes, and adjust intake or activity until you're at your desired pace of fat loss (about -1 lb/week?)

Howdy! Houston pride was last weekend. Notable happenstances:

- Saw a dude from Florida whom I'd met and hooked up with about 3 years ago. He was in town for the weekend and found some friends of mine via grindr or similar. We... are an incestuous lot.
- Friend by proxy had never been HIV tested in his life so he was really nervous but he got tested while at the festival. All clean :D
