I would imagine that other publishers don't agree with EA here - a la carte gaming surely leads to less revenue. No, there's always going to be a cover charge for console games and then they'll charge you for jeans as well. They aren't going to charge you less for features that you don't use.

I have no idea why Blizzard is trying so hard to control what people farm.

Because the entire game is built around the RMAH. Called that crap ruining Diablo 3 months ago, and as usual I am right.

It wouldn't be so bad except that Blizzard is going to keep trying to balance the game around botters/CGFs. They wanted vases and chests and goblins to be farmable until it became the optimized manner for those types of people.

This is one if the big shifts in Blizzard's mentality - we've talked about the SoJ thing from D2 before. In D2 they just realized it was part of the game, so they designed game elements around it. Well, a game element, anyway. And before that, they could just have bloodbaths for hackers and dupers/dupes. With the RMAH, they can't wait 6 months to do a quick little query on items and accounts, they have to try and keep up with things.

2. Gaming Forums ruin gaming. I saw a guy made a topic saying he got a refund after 100 hours because the game was disappointing. YOU PLAYED FOR 100 HOURS WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT. Then there's the guy complaining because people can just buy the best items because they have more money without seeing the irony that they can obtain better items by having more time.

This is a big part of it. If I ran a gaming company I wouldn't reveal a friggin thing about my game.

Other issues:
Always online can be defended but it's not really something that benefits the actual play experience for most people.

No PvP at launch.

Tying into #1 a bit, Diablo wasn't such a controlled experience before. PvP is going to end up being another grind.

Is tap water really that bad? In none of the places I've lived (coastal Delaware, New York City, South Florida for a month), have I ever had any second thoughts about drinking the tap water. Have I just gotten lucky or are people being irrationally scared?

Tap water is pretty bad. Everybody should buy filters, especially given how cheap they've become. I mean come on, I've lived in two different places (one in CA one in OH) where there was actually city-wide warnings of the tap water being un-drinkable for a couple months due to substantial fecal matter contamination. The warnings came about three weeks after it all started, by the way.

It's in the real world that nobody needs the useless skill I've wasted the last eight years cultivating, so I'm basically going to have to start over. The Diablo Forums are packed with threads from pissed off people. In between fits of laughter at people threatening Blizzard with cancelling their WOW accounts( its funny because if you have 4 WOW accounts there's a good chance you aint quittin, Blizzard owns you) here's the gist of things:

Beyond character reveals, anything Blizzard has said about the game has resulted in poor responses on forums. It's wild to have gone through Diablo II's community and to see this. It's not a total surprise, but definitely a giant shame.

My wife has a breast pump, so she can just unload 4-5 bottles at a time. We also have a mini fridge we're going to keep close by so that sounds convenient too. Hopefully it's as easy as it sounds.

After the first week, when the kid figures out how to eat, mom figures out to feed, and the swelling goes down (get those frozen peas ice packs to help out here), it's not too hard. After that it's just a lack of sleep that is tough.

The first ten days or so, all the kid does is eat enough to expand her stomach, then sleep, then eat again. Days are broken up into 8-10 mini-days. Then I think it slows down to 6 mini-days as she continues to expand her stomach. It's still tough but by 3 weeks you'll stop wanting to flee the country. The other thing that comes up - growth spurts. She'll cry and cry and cry and want food all the time one day, and the next day just sleeps. And the next day none of her stuff fits.

Wow, thanks neon! I'll grab the book. Already have a few others I've borrowed from my cousin (just had his second kid). But another book doesn't hurt.

We have a ton to do in the next 6 months. We are moving back north closet to both of our parents and rest of family and my wife's office. I'm gunna be working from home and taking care of early care before we move on to daycare. So with one car it just makes sense. Need to move before she can't help at all.

I've read a few and it just seems like most of them are written in a way that women will like more than men will. Be Prepared is like "here's the stuff you need to deal with it, here are some solutions, good luck man".

How much maternity/paternity time is going to be involved?

also there's a book called Be Prepared, nice yellow cover, it's a very practical handbook for being a dad. it doesn't try to talk down to you like you're some stupid caveman that needs to feel bad for having spent so much time watching sports with your buddies. best practical advice I can think of right now

at 32 weeks, pack a bag.

install the car seat when you get it. figure out how to use it.

breastfeeding is much harder than you probably think it is, not that you have to do it, but be prepared for that to be a little stressful. basically the kid needs to learn how to do it as well. and then once everyone has figured it out, the body's natural reaction is engorgement. bad times!
