And speaking of GameSpot, both myself and the community team from GameSpot couldn't possibly be happier about the ongoing split. I never supported the merge in the first place and it's been nothing but an unending hassle for everyone involved. Tools didn't work properly between sites, users were moderated without knowing why, and users were forced to intermingle even if they didn't want to. We cater to two very different types of users, and they don't always get along.
thought it was interesting!

Can you please for the love of God, stop with the never ending character battles? Or at least put them on a separate part of the site. There is nothing worse than seeing them take over the PotD for months on end. They are awful and boring.

I can't find it now, but I saw one answer when I read this earlier where he said that site traffic has increased over the past five years. I found that really surprising, with the rise of game-specific wikis and the decline of cheat codes in gaming.
Wow, only 400 moderations a day. A lot less than I expected.
That's clearly not counting days when the mods invade b8
Well it's an average. We don't invade that often. <_<

Seems pretty surprising to me considering how much vote totals have plummeted over the last couple of years. Whoever these new people are, they must not vote.
I guess it's mostly the regulars who vote, and those must've dwindled but since more players play video games now it's just normal that there's more traffic.
There's no way traffic has gone UP over the last five years. GameFAQs' Alexa rank has sunk, and polls are averaging half (or fewer) votes than they were in our heyday 4-6 years ago. It's just the unfortunate truth of things.

It's hard for me to believe that overall traffic is up when PotD votes have decreased by at least half. That just doesn't jive at all. It's like GameFAQs getting a huge influx of CoD fans only for Modern Warfare to do worse in the subsequent contest.

They probably just bookmark the modern warfare board or something, completely bypassing the front page.
Or maybe they just don't care about the PotD.
edit: and CE apparenlty wants to become the new LUE.

From: JJH777 | #032 I can't believe that traffic has gone up. It makes no sense. It's not just the poll the boards in general seem slower than they used to be as well. Social board usage might've dropped, but if there are a ton of people on the actual game boards and/or FAQs then it's possible. Many people have found other outlets for gaming social talk (Reddit being the main one) so it isn't that unfeasible.
It still surprises me though.

Well, I don't think Alexa is going to be an accurate measure of the traffic on GameFAQs.

SBAllen specifically names the PotD as something that has had much less participation despite the traffic increase.
When I commented on SBAllen's message, I pointed out that many people never visit the front page because they bookmarked the link to the boards. For people that never visit the front page, they will never notice the PotD. The obvious solution here is to display the PotD on the main page of the boards, like you see in this screenshot:
The PotD is located above the "Board Information" box. The PotD will still be displayed on the front page of the site, but it will also be displayed on the main page of the boards. When you have the PotD displayed on 2 different parts of the site, it will be easier for other people to see the PotD.

Well, it's not really my idea. I originally saw this suggestion on Site Suggestions way back in 2010. I don't remember anyone anti-signing the petition, but the petition eventually purged after a few weeks.
I think this idea is more likely to happen, since we just got that thinner header yesterday. That awesome "thin" header is great, because it moves the PotD higher up on the page.

Tell us your thoughts and feelings on the user Luster Soldier.
[]GameFAQs_SBAllen[S]
Luster has an impressive/disturbing fascination with the inner workings of GameFAQs. As such, he's actually quite useful in terms of catching bugs and coding errors that most users would never catch. Seems like a pretty nice guy as well, from what I can tell.
[]Hesbin
Do you feel his plan of marrying a female GameFAQs user and raising a child to be the ultimate GameFAQs moderator will work?
[]GameFAQs_SBAllen[S]
I hope I'm invited to the wedding.

facepalm
Sadly, that plan has been thrown into the trash bin. I was only 17 at the time I came up with that plan and it's been a few years since that all happened.
I am impressed by SBAllen's comments about me. Yes, I try to be nice whenever possible, unless someone gives me a hard time about something.
^ Best.

I think the boards as a whole are less active than they used to be. Between 2007 and 2009, it was very common to have over 7000 online users at certain times of the day. Now we rarely ever get over 6000 online users and we struggle just to get over 5500 online users. Also, near the beginning of 2008, we set a record with 9171 online users, which is the highest online user count I ever saw.

Apologies to SB, but I don't believe this for a second. Overall hits have increased yet the Alexa rankings have fallen through the floor, polls draw half the votes they used to, Contests get 1/3 the participation they used to, and both social and game boards have fewer posts and topics? Yeah, not buying it.

Alexa rankings aren't going to be 100% accurate. In fact, the Alexa rankings are based off of every person that has the Alexa toolbar installed in their web browser. The Alexa toolbar keeps track of the websites you visit and sends that data to Alexa to generate traffic rankings for every website on the internet.
That means the Alexa traffic rankings are based on a very small sample size compared to the total number of people that use the internet. I would be willing to bet the traffic rankings are based on less than 1% of the total number of people that use the internet.
