I'm a huge fan of the Godfather I/II movies but I honestly more associate him with Scarface. Holy fuck, is that a star performance. And the dude in the 90's was awesome. I loved his roles in Heat and Donnie Brasco.

3 a couple times at Whataburger in my early 20's.

It's actually a standard order option (or at least it used to be) so it's not hard to get.

I was in really good shape at the time though so it wasn't that big of a deal to do it when I did.

I've 100% passed out quite a few times in either a recliner or a couch. So, basically a very comfortable chair.

Almost every time involved alcohol though. But not excessive drinking. Just like, I was tired plus I had a couple beers, and then wham, I'm asleep and wake up in a few hours.

I've had actual poltergeist experiences at an old apartment I lived in in the early 2010's. Loud sounds coming from other rooms but when I go to investigate, literally nothing had moved or happened. A couple of times the sounds came from my closet or my bathroom. But the main one is one time I had a friend over in my living room chatting and it happened in my kitchen and both of us distinctly heard a huge banging sound...only to find nothing had happened physically to the eye when we looked around literally moments after we had heard the banging sound. That in particular was eerie, especially because my friend told me he thought my place was haunted without me even trying to play it up.

It doesn't take long to live 100% without your parents' help that you start to seriously evaluate stuff like your monthly take-home pay and what exactly you're doing in terms of your physical career.

TopicThe Sopranos vs Breaking Bad
masticatingman
04/21/24 2:22:50 PM
#23
Sopranos is the better show if you're just talking about overall quality. HBO obviously gave them their full backing. And it starts in the first-second episode already going up to full throttle in terms of showcasing what the show-runners/producers were capable of. Even if you don't like some of the story-lines or happenings past Season 4 (between Season 4 and Season 5 there was also a production break), still, the show delivers.

Breaking Bad takes a good while to hit its stride. You could argue that it's not even until the second season that it took things up a notch. But then that show pretty much kills it until the end, and the story content is extremely edgy so everybody who has followed the story until that point and stays with it just loves it that extra more. But yeah, I think in terms of a show's delivery/presentation being on point from front to back...I personally think that was part of why they wanted to make Better Call Saul, since at that point they had the cache to do anything they wanted from the beginning.

I have some experience with the budget hotel/motel marketplace at this point.

Holiday Inn Express basically wins by a landslide if you're looking at the budget options.

If you're forced to go with a motel, try to find one with the rooms situated inside. If you can find one like that, it's honestly probably going to be ok, just with the expectation that you are going to have almost no amenities.

(Don't have any upper tier hotel experience on my own. But my parents would always take us to straight-up Hilton hotels when I was a kid, and that went for in the US or international).

I could see people thinking this if they were more into harder types of rock, I guess. Definitely from an instrumentalist side if that's where your head is at.

But the Beatles as a group were just the premium songwriters. Lennon/McCartney I see as unrivaled in the pop music landscape. And Harrison as well matured into a real serious talent completely in his own right. And they were solid musicians (and in some ways at this point very underrated, comparatively). More than good enough to bring their creations into the light of day without issue.

My last apt complex was fairly pricey but not too crazy and in the single bedroom area that I lived in there was pretty constantly an expectation of being able to hear partying going on during the weekend in the complex.

Current complex is legitimately pricey and the lack of hearing the partying is honestly the biggest difference with the trade-up in price.

American pro-tipping takes should never be taken seriously. Keep that shit in America and dont spill it out to the rest of the world sane enough to not have any tipping
The absurd part now in America is that it's basically become incorporated to any non-drive thru transaction in which you're getting food. If you either order food online to pick up or are checking out at a register...you'll be prompted to tip, and if it's in person, it's usually non-intuitive to get out of the screen or select a no-tip option.

Keep in mind this is a "tip" that you're giving essentially generically to some employee that literally just ringed you up and is offering no type of service akin to a waiter whatsoever.

And on top of this now, drive thru fast food is priced so that fast casual is honestly at basically the same prices to it.

The Wii U was actually great in the second half of its lifespan when even Nintendo was making it pretty clear though their actions that they thought going all in on the gamepad at first had been a mistake. After a year or 2 almost anything you did on the Wii U could be done via their pro controller, which was phenomenal, with the gamepad itself mostly just being relegated to sitting by the TV and being used to fiddle with the system settings if needed.

Of course, by that point, the PR disaster that had been the gamepad-being-the-focus had already been done. Which is why the system was ushered out with haste.

I'll smoke around 5-6 cigs a week on average. Generally 1 a day on the way to work.

But can also go weeks and even months without touching them without any effects. I did go a few years without touching them as well a few years ago.

Can't smoke weed due to industry testing regulations. I actually haven't been physically tested for at least a year and a half at this point but it doesn't matter since everybody in my industry does it (drug testing, that is) so...it would be a huge hurdle if I one day decided to up and leave for another company.

TopicA modest proposal: No smartphones for kids
masticatingman
03/24/24 1:50:08 PM
#13
I think if the parents have enough money to have a legit tv setup with a YouTube / streaming accounts (which should be easier to police anyway), that should basically be the done deal with it: as in, no smartphones.

It is kinda funny in a sad way now that for poorer income families it's frankly simpler to just dole out some smartphones/pads for entertainment. But yeah, I don't think anything good comes out of it.

And this conversation does actually ramp up to another level when talking about computers. I'm guessing most users on this site take having a computer at home as being a default living scenario but I can assure you plenty of folks don't have or know anything about personal computers, whether laptop or pc.

Kids don't need smartphones. Anything "good" that comes out of them can just be had via other means. They should really just be seen as a point of convenience for adults. Of course, the other side of the convo is how basic flip phones are almost extinct these days, and they're mostly just out there for senior citizens. I think society's just behind on this one, since smartphones are just hyper prevalent.

As somebody who has watched both movies many times...no. Goodfellas is deservedly way higher in the collective movie snob pantheon.

Casino does at times have a better story, though. And it's generally easier to follow + the setting is intrinsically interesting (Old Vegas). But that's what it is, a great movie.

Goodfellas is an astounding movie. Stellar, superior.

There's one highway in my state that's just two lane and goes thru an area that has no auto services for about 60-70 miles. It's just farmland and you can't see anything at night. If I'm going through there during the day, I have quite a few times seen a dead dog on the road, likely just thrown out of their owner's car at full speed to not have to deal with it. That's my guess anyway.

I don't know if any type of organizational body ever goes out there to clean them up. My guess is no and that they are just left to the vultures, which are also out there in numbers.

The only reason I still come here specifically to this board is 100% because Reddit doesn't have an equivalency to my knowledge.

Reddit is mostly just full of separate echo chambers. And where that isn't the case, their format is god awful and you can't make heads or tails of what is going on. Which is part of why I think there are all those Reddit robot voice videos on YouTube just going thru threads.

masticatingman
03/03/24 12:51:50 PM

I don't get apps for drive thru establishments honestly. In those situations...I'd rather just do it offline. This is a cash for food exercise, that's it. I'll order at the drive thru like all the other normies and be done with it by paying in person with my order linked to that verbal exchange that just happened.

Apps for fast casual dining where you're going to pick up the order? It's essentially just a question of personalized app vs online website. And usually the app will have a superior ecosystem over the raw website.

I actually put away the shopping cart mostly out of fear that before I can get out of the lot a cart abandoned by me would either roll into a parked car or be run into by a car driving thru the lot. And the parking lots of the bigger stores will likely have cameras which could catch my license plate if it became an issue with another driver.

In the office environment, 4 10's are easily seen as the most preferable arrangement for 40 hour work weeks. However you cut it, if you're doing 4 9's and a 4 or 5 8's...your employer will likely be able to squeeze a few extra hours out of you over the course of a month due to groupthink and not wanting to be labeled as a lazy employee in an office.

Way I see it now, based on all the people ive known over the years.

Your an adult at 25.

Your basically a kid before this, and not fully developed. Brain capacity etc. cant imagine people getting pregnant and having kids before this. (They usually have their parents help them if that happens.)

You become responsible at 35.

Stop clubbing/playing games, start saving money and get serious about the future. This is when a man should consider having kids. Women unfortunately have to consider this earlier cause by age 35 most of their eggs are gone. Our biology sucks, women have to grow up quicker then men, cause 35 is the spot where people settle down. Women however have to do this 10 years earlier.
So, literally the last thing you said in there is likely a big subconscious part of why women will tend to date more mature. A 25 year old woman with a 35 year old guy = problem solved with what you just said.
