yeah it does seem to happen much more infrequently at work than it used to at school. Why do you think workplaces seem to be able to get a handle on this but not schools?

Sort of bullied at my first white collar office job in my current industry.

Part of it was me being a bit naive, part of it was definitely just my general lack of experience so I was constantly having to prove myself with every little encounter regardless anyway. It kinda sucked, but I stuck with it and now have a good career at another company in the same industry.

I had one supervisor at Whole Foods who we'd mess with eachother but she often times didn't have a concept of stopping when the other party (me) was starting to get annoyed and began asking her to stop. It was all verbal and we didn't really do it in front of customers.

That's roughly the worst of it.

Sort of.

My bosses at one school did everything they could to make my life miserable because I blew the whistle on their fucked up practices.

They were still there for a while as the investigation was taking place and they knew it was me who had triggered it.

I was super new and they had been there for years, I didnt really see the point because I would just get branded a troublemaker. I just kept being good at my job and eventually it went away, either because they gave up or because people stopped listening

There was a guy that tried. He wasn't very bright though. Dealing with him was like Bugs Bunny dealing with Bugsy and Mugsy. Worst part was everyone acted like I was the antagonist when it was him messing with me and getting his feelings hurt.

Edit. Forgot about this lady in my operation that likes to smile in your face and then talk mad shit behind your back and snitches while doing barely any work. She tried it too but since I used to lift her boxes for her and set her section up, I got the last laugh.

And to that other poster, yeah they act like all nice to you and then start doing devious stuff like behind your back. Have seen that. Better that they don't even try to act nice to you when they see you if they're gonna do that. Why do some people do that?

One guy repeatedly "jokingly" said he was going to rape me, even pulled a knife out on me in the elevator when we were leaving our shift one time.

Shift supervisor reported me to her supervisor that I was depressed and potentially suicidal because I didn't want to hang out with him (or really anyone else on the shift) when they decided to go out for drinks one night.

Just noticing this. We messed with eachother playfully, but she'd often continue when I was getting tired of it or sometimes when I wasn't even trying to do it. She didn't really have a good concept of knowing when the line's being crossed. None of it was really truly malicious but it was frustrating to deal with her.

It's minor, but the closest thing I've had to workplace bullying is at my current place of employment.

From what I've been told, some of the doctors were opposed to the creation of my position. I'm part of a group of pharmacy technicians who document patients' medication history before they are admitted. Most of the doctors have come around to the position because we're able to be more thorough than nurses when it comes to investigating a patient's history.

There's one doctor though who will intentionally get in my way and force me to dodge whenever we pass in a hallway or walkway. I'll give ground, obviously, deferring to his position. But he will reposition himself to continue to get in my way and move at a high rate of speed to force me to dodge. If ever I collided with him, I'm sure he would put forth an immediate proposal to have me terminated.

Working around doctors is like working around royalty. It's like having a caste system. You don't engage people in conversation if they're too high above your position.

Now, doctors will make requests of me from time to time, and I can chime in if someone throws out a general question such as trying to remember the name of a song or a specific actor, but that's about it. Plus, the obligatory non-conversations that people working and moving about in close proximity have like, "Thank you," "Sorry," "Excuse me," etc.

This one doctor will make a point to not verbally address me and also to get in my personal space even when I try and give ground. I don't have a lot of interaction with him (thankfully), so it isn't much of an issue. There's only been one time that he's walked into a room while I was talking to a patient. He held the door open while staring past me and didn't speak a word to the patient until I had exited.

I mean, there are worse things a higherup can do than give someone the silent treatment. It's not something I would in any way wish to retaliate over.

Yes.

There was a new hire at my old valet job and He seemed cool at first but was actually really shitty. One day during down time he said to me Mike, youre big you scare my wife! Why you so bigggg or stuff like eat more vegetables. Now I already have low self esteem so I never said anything because I didnt want to go to HR because deep down I was embarrassed about my weight. My management team even witnessed it and did nothing. It sucked though he eventually got fired for blowing a gasket and tried to fight another manager.

Its probably because unlike schools if your job is being shitty you can make an effort to just go work at a different job. Of course theres exceptions both ways (being able to convince your parents to switch schools as a kid, low job availability making getting another job hard or impossible), but in general easier to switch jobs then to switch schools

I mean it is a form of harassment. In Las Vegas at most casinos valet workers have a good hourly and the hotel I was at I was making $19 an hour(which I think it was one of the highest) Tips all depend on what shift youre on but at the end all three shifts, day, swing, and grave all make roughly the same at the end of the week. Things changed when MGM properties started a charge for parking and we went from making $600+ a week in tips to about <$200. It eventually balanced out as more and more customers got used to it but it was never quite the same. I took a second job in the field of education part time and ended up liking it so much I left valet in 2022 after doing it for 20 years and now teach full time. With my degrees I make roughly the same. I just dont get that tip money which is weird not having tons of paper cash all the time like I did when I did valet.
