Holiday Inn Express basically wins by a landslide if you're looking at the budget options. If you're forced to go with a motel, try to find one with the rooms situated inside. If you can find one like that, it's honestly probably going to be ok, just with the expectation that you are going to have almost no amenities. (Don't have any upper tier hotel experience on my own.
