Arceus is not that different. It still heavily relies on turn-based rock-paper-scissor style battles. The biggest change is chucking pokeballs outside of battle, which is fun but whatever. And it really shouldn't be lauded for finally bringing Pokmon into proper 3D when GameFreak has been hyping a proper 3D world since X/Y and failed to deliver for 3 gens.

The appeal has never been the gameplay. It's discovering the new Pokmon each generation and building your dream team.
