especially around your family?

Having kids is an absolute pain in the ass if you dont have much downtime since theres no one else to watch the them and youre always burned out and you easily scream at your kids as a result of that.

I was only told to man up and get over it to fix my parental burnout problems but. it doesnt seem to be working so im not even sure if thats good advice

"get over it" no. "deal with it" maybe.

but it'll definitely build up and explode if you don't find ways to mitigate it and find releases somewhere. vacation. some new journey or ambition. something to distract you, hopefully without ruining your life in some way.

"Get over it" isn't actual advice. Anyone who says that is probably just suffering silently themselves.

Do you have family that can look after your kids for even an hour or so? Small amounts of time to yourself when you have kids can be an absolute solace and an oasis of calm in an otherwise fairly hectic existence.

You don't really have much of a choice as a parent unless you're just gonna dip out on your kid, which is pretty shitty.

I dont think any parent actually intends to harm their kids like that. I know it from experience that you get cranky and you cant control your emotions much if youre irritable as a result of burnout.

We do but they rarely like giving us time to ourselves. They only watch the kids if we work.

And no, work doesnt count as decompressing relax time.

Youre right. And at the same time, you dont have much of a choice on your emotions or irritability if youre cranky to the max because of burnout.

The sad part is what if the only way to cope is to have some me time to yourself but you cant get what you need because no one is there to watch the kids?

Im guessing the only way is to risk further burnout and further irritability till the kids are older?

You can make it a family day. I think the overall point is, there literally isn't a "me time" when you have young kids. That's kind of understood.

So it's just modifying your plans from get hammered, stoned, and play video games all day to family beach day.

^maybe if necessary. Therapy aint cheap.
