Artists for the last 10 years have been:
LMFAO
Nicki Minaj
MIA
Destinys Child
RHCP
Lenny Kravitz
Missy Elliott
Katy Perry
Beyonce
Madonna (Maybe this one)
Coldplay
Lady Gaga
Bruno Mars
Justin Timberlake
Travis Scott
Shakira
Bad Bunny

With the exception of Madonna and RHCP those are "my generations bands."They aren't what my parents listened to. They have constantly been putting on a show for "my generation". This isn't special and I'm not sure why it's being treated as it is?

Yeah the NFL is really pushing for everyone to go to the bathroom and start cleaning up their parties at halftime.

It must be a thing for my age range (Mid 30s) where everyone my age is excited that finally there's a super bowl with entertainers for "Our generation" and not for "our parents". It's almost like a source of pride for a lot of them and it's weird.

As far as headliners, other than Chili Peppers and Madonna, this was really the first "Nostalgia for Generation X" halftime show.

Boomers got their Tom Petty, The Who, and Rolling Stones, Springsteen.

Millennials and Zoomers got Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas, Gaga, Weeknd.

But for Gen X, this was really one of the first "This one's for you" Halftime Show.

Fwiw Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Eminems popularity pretty much exactly coincides with the Red Hot Chili Peppers

I'm squarely GenX and I don't listen to any of last nights acts.

Ok. But they all rose to fame in the early 90s, when most of GenX was in high school or college, so theyre definitely more genx musics than any other generation.

maybe not 50 cent or em, but definitely snoop and dre.

How do Prince, Madonna and Michael Jackson not qualify as being for Generation X?

I loved it. It was basically Dr. Dre featuring some of the biggest artists he's worked with. Seeing them all on stage together was great and LA's hip hop had a lot of representation with Dre, Snoop and Kendrick.

No, I meant Generation X. People born during those years didn't exactly grow up during those artists haydays. They didn't see Michael moonwalk for the first time live, as an example.

Rap or Hip-Hop peaked for me in the late 80's.
After that, the real big money came in and it just started feeling commercialized.
Plus I started, for real, learning to play instruments, so that era of Rap Hip-Hop really never appealed to me.

I meant as a nostalgia act.

Last night was a GenX nostalgia show.

Like Rolling Stones in 2006, Tom Petty in 2007, and The Who in 2010 were nostalgia shows for Boomers.

Youre getting your generations mixed up dude

the primary audience for dre/snoop/eminem is millennials (those born in the 80s and early 90s)

Maybe, because Im considered late GenX (born in 78) and I was 14 when The Chronic and Doggystyle came out, so I consider them music of my generation.

They wouldn't have been old enough to listen to Dre in 87.

Maybe mid to late 90s stuff.

Let's play "Who was 13 when they were popular?"

Slim Shady EP dropped in 1997 Gen X was 17-35, Millenials were 1-16. So, older Millenials and college aged Gen X'ers would've been the audience.
What's My Name? dropped in 1993. Gen X was 13-31, Millenials were unborn-12. So definitely Gen X, but Millennials would've been around for Snoop's later projects.
Straight Outta Comptom dropped in 1987. Millenials were 6 at the oldest. So NWA is Gen X, but his later work is spread over Millenials.

BTW, Gen X was 3-18 for MJ's first moonwalk. That's solidly a Gen X event. They were the target for all of MJ's peak popularity. Boomers are the gap between the Jackson 5 and Thriller, Gen X is the generation of Billie Jean.

And MJ performed at the SB in 1993, when he was still in his prime and not a nostalgia act.

That is one of the good things about being a GenX'er. We can pull from sides, and still have our own great stuff. ((I would say though that Tom Petty is GenX as well....not that I was ever really into him...same with Bruce.
